Title: Rob Zombie has cast Michael Myers and Dr. Sam Loomis for his new Halloween
Post by: The Fake Shemp on December 25, 2006, 01:19:38 AM
I guess we can put to bed the rumors of it being a sequel or kind of a separate entity.  Reports are now in that Malcom McDowell has been cast as Dr. Sam Loomis and Tyler Mane has been cast as Michael Myers.

Should have known that when you heard Rob Zombie was involved.

If Zombie turns Halloween into the Devil's Rejects, then this will suck.

Merry Fucking Christmas, then.  I'm not expecting anything more.

He's remaking Halloween - it's going to suck no matter what because it doesn't need to be remade.  This movie is flawed at its core and Zombie should know better.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:  I think he'll do the series a service.  I doubt he'll make the best Halloween movie, but at least he's not a director that's only attached to the product because he knows it will make a buck.  The Devil Rejects, while still not a great movie, shows that he knows how to reel things in a bit, and I think he realizes that he has to keep things way reeled in for Halloween, as a showing of reverance for the material.

I can't guarantee he will make a truly good movie - both of his previous movies have high highs and low lows - but at least we have a person with unique vision and a true love of horror flicks is helming it.  I'd rather it be Zombie than, say, the people that did the latest two Halloween flicks.
EDIT:

Also, I think McDowell is a good pick for Loomis, btw.  In his old age he's managed to become a decent character actor, and I think he'd absolutely nail Loomis's over-the-top rantings about how Michael is PURE EVIL!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the whole idea behind this is to reboot the series (think Casino Royale) for start fresh forgetting about the recent ultra-shitty Halloween movies. As such, I really don't see a problem with the movie being made at all. It just rests on Zombie to further improve his filmmaking (which vastly improved between House and Rejects) and come out with something that isn't bad.

I'll agree with that.  Devils Rejects is by far a more watchable movie than House of a 1000 Corpses.  Not that I really have the urge to ever watch either of them again.

And TVC, I think they should really just leave it alone.  It doesn't need service IMO.  But you are correct in the aspect that Zombie is better than a lot of other directors.  Hopefully he'll surprise us.

Devil's Rejects is pretty much my favorite horror movie (though its not really a horror movie) of the past 10 years, so Im all for Zombie's Halloween. Few directors have improved as much from a first to a second film as Zombie did. I think he has, dare I say it, talent and potential.

This has nothing to do with Rob Zombie or Halloween 2-8...This is about the original Halloween and it should NOT be remade.

Zombie could make a fresh Halloween 9 to breathe some life into the series, but he's not. Supporting this film is supporting every other horrible horror remake these studios can't stop making.

Not to mention this pisses all over Jamie Lee Curtis and her constantly reprising the role again.

On the other hand, I sort of dug the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but that had more to do with R. Lee Ermey than anything else.

Zombie is a shit film director, though.  I love his music in a Big Daddy Roth (look him up) kind of way, but HO1KC and Devil's Rejects were asscakes.

As far as I know, it's not some shot-by-shot remake, but a BB/CR styled "reimagining" (quickly becoming an over-used buzz word). Halloween is my favorite horror movie of all-time, and I have no problem's with Zombie's movie. I mean, we've had 2 good movies and what, 6 shitty ones? I set let Zombie do what he will, it can't get much worse than everything in the series after the first 2 films.
