visually it looks good but then DF games always have strong art/writing
concept is interesting, but DF does not have a good track record of making fun deep gameplay.

Will buy to support DF like always in hopes they will just make an adventure game at some point.

Your logic is that if you keep supporting their interesting concepts with shallow gameplay that they will eventually not do that?

Huh.

Why don't they fucking make Psychonauts 2 already and get it over with?

Because no publisher with an ounce of common sense would green light such a project.

Well is not like all these little games are gonna light the charts on fire.

Neither will Psychonauts 2. And that will cost a lot more to make by comparison.

They can do it for the psp for all I care, all I'm saying is if they gonna waste some publisher's money they might as well wasted it on something fucking awesome.

I'd love another psychonauts as much as the next person but its not going to happen. They are struggling to just exist as a company. And making lower budget scaled down games is the way for them to do it.

The reality is a lot of companies are going to find themselves in this position if they want to stay around.

Looks like a bizarre version of a Lego game with the abilities and puzzle solving.

I disagree. Once you get to Lungfishopolis, Psychonauts gets amazing in terms of general level design. The first three levels sucks, though.

Sounds good to me, hollywood games aren't my cup of tea in the first place.

Game looks weird, visually and thematically interesting... but I have yet to actually like the gameplay in a Double Fine game. Even Costume Quest (in my favorite genre) was a slow-paced bore.

I'm excited about it. I liked Costume Quest just fine, even if it was over pretty quickly. Actually, I'll be getting the Grubbins on Ice DLC for that game soon.

I...don't get what's going on in that video at all.

Still, at least it's nice to see that Schafer can still get publishing deals with his last few games being bombs.

I thought Costume Quest was brilliant.

I was very happy to hear about this the other day. Can't wait.

Did anyone play Grubbins on Ice?

Wondering if I should play it since I wasn't a costume quest fan.  If it's just more of the same, I'll pass.  But if they made some advances in the battle system and the writing is good I might bite.

Wheres my Brutal Legend 2!?  :maf

Never going to happen. The first one bombed and for good reason (would have been great to know it was an RTS from the get-go).

To be fair a lot of the preview coverage they gave did talk about how much of an RTS it actually was. But of course the demo didn't and I agree a lot of casuals probably felt bait and switched after playing that demo and playing the full game.

The sad thing is if it had only followed the design of that demo it would have been a much more kick ass game.

So apparently the game is free on the day of release if you are a PSN+ subscriber.

Might end up getting a sub for this since I was going to spend $15 on the game anyway.

Isnt it just for the duration of your subscription?

yeah. don't see why people are willing to throw $18/$50 for a PS+ subscription suddenly.

Yeah, but it's not like you're every going to play it again after you finish it.  It's sort of like a rental service for DD games since there is no netflix for non-disc games.

But yeah, the price is only worth the amount of money saved compared to buying games you would have actually paid for.  In this case I would have paid $15 to play Stacking for a few days and never touch it again.  So $3 more for a dozen other "free" games for 3 months doesn't seem like a bad deal.

Well I took the bite on a year & 3 months of SONY RENTALS.  Will see if this pays off.  Downloaded a bunch of free crappy games, and themes/avatars, and Stacking, and Killzone 3 SP demo.

Spacebucks fail: I had 920 in my account, thinking it would be 800. Now Amazon won't let me buy point codes for some reason.  :'(

Is this the game people said would be free for PS+ subscribers for one day? If so, shit, I have to hurry back home. Might was get my money's worth out of that stupid service.

It's not bad. I may wait for a sale but I liked it. As expected it has a great aesthetic. It's basically a straight adventure game with the gimmick being the stacking element. You use the stacking to take over different characters in the environment to solve different puzzles.

Hasn't Tim Schafer been making games for nearly 20 years now? You can't get rid of him that easily :P

Yeah but the problem with every DF game has been that they try as hard as possible to make an adventure game (their strength) that isn't an adventure game (their weakness).  So if Stacking is more of a straight adventure game, then it would push on their strength while avoiding the pitfalls of them trying to make non-adventure game gameplay.  So potentially it sounds like it could be their best work yet.

I played about 10 mins last night and it wasn't really enough to form an opinion besides "framerate is weirdly low", "style is great".

I didn't mean my comment as a pejorative. More just as informational to those who didn't know what the game was about. I liked the demo. This was much closer to a buy for me than Costume Quest was.

He's good at sucking companies dry, thats for sure. Soon he will run out of companies who are sick of his shitty games.
