Title: Was music always this cheap on Amazon?
Post by: Bebpo on November 27, 2010, 09:57:38 PM
I was looking for some smaller cds online and I ran across Amazon's MP3 download store and wtf most of the albums are $1.99 for the entire album in 225kbs VBR w/album cover and newer albums are like $4.99.  I thought itunes charged like $10 for mp3 albums?  $2 is a REALLY good price point for a music cd.  At that price I think I'm gonna catch up on some classic albums I've never heard.

Is this just some sort of black friday holiday sale, or were mp3 albums always this cheap on amazon?

I was taking a look at the Amazon MP3 store a few days ago and I was thinking the exact same thing. No idea when popular new releases started being sold for sub-$5 or how this isn't at all considered big news when it is seemingly so much cheaper than iTunes. It's really too bad that amazon.ca doesn't have the MP3 store. If they keep this price point and start offering lossless downloads I could see myself willing to finally get into purchasing digital music downloads.

Also I don't know if it's still active but someone on GAF posted a code to get a free $3 credit:

I've often found that MP3 albums on Amazon may be $6.99 or so when the iTunes version is $9.99. Your mileage may vary.

Uh wow that's actually pretty nuts. Can you re-download songs you've already purchased?

it's been like this for years ... generally albums are $8.99 vs. $9.99 on iTunes

new albums are often $3.99 or $5.99 on release day as a promo

black friday has a lot of $1.99 and $4.99 albums

Amazon.com MP3 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> iTunes
