Yu Suzuki is a God of arcade games. Very few can compare to him.

Mielke did the interview? I thought he was working at 8-4 now.
-
I thought he was a budding young game designer

"I want to talk about Shenmue. In hindsight, we can see how much it has influenced the industry, perhaps more than any of your other games. Not only did it lay the groundwork for Sega's own Ryu ga Gotoku, but also Grand Theft Auto, or any game where there's a big environment with tons of things to interact with, which we now call a sandbox game."
Shenmue laid the foundation for GTA? OK Mielke
-
Pretty much. Remember that kenji eno interview?

You didn't know that, dude? Shenmue had all that, plus guns and huge cities to explore.

I have never being less interested in reading something in my life.

The silly thing about the whole thing to me is that another true one that bears any resemblance to the old ones will never be made. The game is too big budget and not commercial enough to succeed. ( I won't overly go into it but I also thought both games were way over-rated)
If Sega really cared about giving closure to people they could commission a comic to be made that just wraps up the story. (Maybe something like that already exists. I don't follow Shenmue)
But instead we have to endure pointless speculation about a sequel that will never come or people sort of over-romanticizing both titles.
-
why can't sega just release shenmue 1/2 with trophies, hd, japanese/english voice support with both games on one disc to shut people up?
i'd take that over any other joke project they come up with.
at least it'd mean i could (almost) retire my dreamcast
