Title: Doritos XBLA Round 2
Post by: demi on December 08, 2010, 07:16:07 AM
2 free XBLA games up - Harms Way and Doritos Crash Course

Harms Way is developed by Stoked developer Bongfish

Any good? Easy 200/200?

The last Doritos game was pretty decent I thought.

Watching video of the Doritos one. It's a platformer, probably easy to fuck up than the car game they tried last time.

One of the cheevs requires you to play with someone on your friend's list. You also need to get all golds for another cheev, that might not be easy.

Harm's Way looks like easy 200 though

Not to mention they didn't even have the common decency to make the Yaris an easy 200/200.

Harm's way is kinda bad ass. Especially for a free title. Surprisingly fun with a neat gimmick.

Basically its a racing game with power-ups but you're paired up with a sniper.

I just played the Doritos obstacle course game for like 30 minutes in a 4 man party. It's fun too. Good job MS.

Unfortunately I can't get into a multiplayer game in Harm's Way.

Someone here posted that you can even plug in a guitar controller if you don't have an additional standard controller. It's easy-peasy.

Harm's Way seems to be borked, I can't find a match at all. 50GS is locked away unless you can get multiplayer going. I guess you can get some of that doing local.

Crash Course is decent, a fun platformer for sure. I've been lol'ing at the butthurt cheevo whores on x360a who are finding it "too hard". So much upset because the game doesn't shit out the points as so they have so desired for so long. Fuckin noobs

Yeah really unfortunate because it seems like what that game is all about. Probably some bug in the code because I know enough people have it to at least get a single game going.

Yo, fuck crash course, ha ha. That game is insane.
lol.

Some of the later levels are pretty tricky at least the first time. We were laughing as we died our asses off on some of them.

I've honestly bought worse XBLA games than either title in the past and played them less. So for free and cheevs not a bad evening.
Title: Re: Doritos XBLA Round 2
Post by: The Sceneman on December 09, 2010, 12:37:56 AM
yeah me and mojo just ran through all the stages for the achievement. The later levels get pretty nuts with lots of deaths, but with a bit of practice I reckon I can 200 this. The gameplay kinda reminds of Splosion Man for some reason. A solid game for free.

I think free and achievements help. But I actually think the crash course game is kind of fun in multiplayer. You could tell Jeff and Ryan did also. Harm's Way is mostly broken right now with the online situation as playing that single player isn't really good.

Oh man, got to this stage. What a fucking buzzkill. I haven't even gotten to the end because I want to make an entire run without a single mistake, and I'm unable to do it. The part near the beginning with the random colored drop-away panels is fucking DUMB.
Title: Re: Doritos XBLA Round 2
Post by: The Sceneman on December 10, 2010, 05:03:41 AM
especially cos its random and you cant actually get to the panel in time if its over the other side.

I just run the stage near-flawless and got a gold with 2 seconds to spare.

Japan will be even rougher.

Still, it's good that they made the last couple of achievements hard. it seperates the cheevo whoring men from the boys

Neither do I but it was just fun to play most of them. Unlike Trials HD I didn't hit that curve where it just became impossible or overly frustrating for me to play.

got 200/200 in Crash Course  8) the only really bad levels were Europe 5 (due to all the paintball shit) and Japan 4 (because there was a lot of ultra-precise parts). Pretty cool game for free.

http://www.trueachievements.com/a78350/sore-wa-kantan-desu-achievement.htm

Apparently either the title update, save data, or DLC messes with this Achievement.

I pulled a 1:38, and it didn't pop. Deleted the title update and DLC, struggled repeatedly, and got 1:36 while offline -- still didn't pop.

Now I've reinstalled the title update but no DLC, but I was so riddled with adrenalin that I couldn't pull off a couple of the shortcuts, and I'm still not sure if it will pop. Apparently I may need to delete everything and reinstall to get these to pop.

I got it down to 1:31 this morning, offline, still didn't pop.

(http://i.imgur.com/ZT8rAHRl.jpg) (http://imgur.com/ZT8rAHR)

Cleared my cache and am trying again.

Interesting datapoint: XBLA previously downloaded only the base game, but now auto downloads the title update with the game.

Also, though I deleted this game from all storage devices, cleared my cache, and re-downloaded it, deleted the title update which forces me to play offline, it is unclear why the game still knows my previous best times. I'm missing data somewhere, and it is driving me bonkers.

Jesus.

Yeah. Not sure what to do.

I pinged a few recent winners on TA.com and they confirmed that they unlocked the Achievement before doing any DLC stuff. Others confirmed that they, like me, are seeing race times even when they're not connected to XBL, and were starting the game with a restored profile and a new save game. It seems like the data is possibly stored in the GamerTag?

Some Xbox Ambassador on the official forum said that Behaviour is working on a patch, which I wouldn't believe, except that I previously wouldn't have believed in for-pay DLC for a free game two years after launch. And yet: City Lights.

We'll see.

In other news, you were right about Leela. Love 5 with no Negative Energy is a fool's errand.

Xbox Ambassadors dont know shit, they're just regular people

Some information is stored on Gamertag as well. I had Dark Void glitch on me for an achievement, and since its tied to my tag, I can never get it. Ever.

Crash Course has been updated; two major bugs are apparently addressed.

I unlocked Sore Ha Kantan Desu last night by finishing an unrelated level. It checked my best time on the server, and popped the 'cheevo for me.

I'm going to get the Going For Gold 'cheevo, and then delete the game with extreme prejudice.

It's pretty "meh" overall. I'm guessing these were minor modifications to their old engine while they ran up their ideas and plans for CC2. There is not a lot of content in the DLC, especially compared to CC2, but it was fun enough at the time... until it ruined my ability to get the other Achievements, and I thought it would never be patched.  :-\

Doritos Crash Course: FUCK Europe 4 and 5 right in their ears.

I blew through USA 1 through 5, got Gold on my first run for each of them. Europe 1-3, too, thanks to some lucky breaks. But the last two levels there are ball busters.
