You read it here first. This girl, who I've uncharacteristically fallen completely in love with, was supposed to head off to grad school in Illinois in a few weeks. This was tragic news, the worst thing to happen to love since the Spears/Federline coupling. But, it was the way of the world and we came to terms with it, agreeing to stay in touch and see each other whenever.
One thing you need to know about this girl is that she's a genius. She's not just book smart, she has a really keen ability to apply that knowledge and tackle abstract concepts. It's why she skipped a grade and why she was finishing college early. As a result, she would have been the youngest person in her grad program (She turned 20 in June). She was sort of freaked about this and I half-jokingly told her, "Well, you could always defer and come live under my kitchen table". And, well. Now she is. Not under the table of course, but she is deferring and moving in.
We both think it's a good move, obviously. If she's panicky about grad school, maybe it's important to do the 9-5 thing, to find out what the alternative feels like. It helped me get my ass in gear, so. My parents were shocked by the news, as they always are, but they're pretty used to my coming home with some kind of bomb in my pocket ("Oh, hey guys. I need to borrow, like. $1200. I signed a lease!") and I'm on my own, so it's not like they can say No, anyway. Her family is mostly supportive, maybe a 75/25% split. The 25 view me as some kind of greasy Svengali luring their golden child away from the promised land and into some den of inequity. Her step mother called me yesterday (When I was TRASHED) to give me 20 questions and then some. I did okay considering, but it was deeply confrontational.
Anyway. Life is crazy, yeah?

uh, how long have you two known each other?
-
Young love is good love, hold on to it while it lasts.
I have to move if i want to hold on to what I got.
-
Wow, that's amazing. Good luck!

Poster #1: We've known each other for a few years, but really only been intimate for, oh, 3 weeks. It would be slightly disingenuious to indicate that she's moving here just for me. She had some anxiety about going to Grad School, had a chance to put it off and had a chance to move to a big city, comfortably. It's an extremely happy collision of circumstances. It's not like she was"I LOVE YOU SO MUCH I CANT GO TO GRAD SCHOOL". She's well traveled, competent and adult, so it's not like I'll have to baby sit her.
Mups! I live with 2 female roommates right now and the last place I lived I also had a female roommate. For a summer before that, a girl I was dating lived with me for about a month. I'm really built for cohabitation, I love company, I don't need a lot of "creature comforts", blah blah.
I know the whole thing sounds crazy and hasty, but I'm not nervous in the slightest.

3 weeks is a little quick but congratz!
-
I didn't say it sounded crazy. I have faith you. ;)
The only thing I'm worried about is that you apparently haven't lived with someone you're dating for an extended period of time. Trust me, it's completely different than a roommate.

Yeah. That second one has me a little bit worried, but we're both pretty open and rational and hopefully it'll pan out. We'll see, won't we? Thanks for the well wishes, dudes.

Yeah. You never know, man!
-
Told you anything could happen ;)

She is moving in at 20? That seems rather young. How old are you?

23. I mean, yeah, it's a totally crazy idea. But it just feels okay
-
20's not that young. I'm pretty sure I lived with my GF when I was around that age.

I actually think Fattie and Lover will get along, but we'll see. Fattie's been better since she got a job.
