My internet has been going in and out for the past few days. Getting about 500kb/s average on torrents, down from 1 to 2 mb/s. Xbox Live goes out about once an hour and my torrent speeds fluctuate a lot. After the connection drops, it comes right back. I've done all the usual tests--power cycling my modem and router, resetting my router and modem. tried plugging my xbox and macbook directly into my modem and got the same results. The only thing I can think of is that I'm at 210gb out of 240gb they allow me for the month. I use all wired connections and have wifi off, so it can't be people using my connection.
Talked with comcast and they said they reset some shit on their end with my connection, but it's still doing the same shit.
Just wondering if anyone knows what might be up. I'm hoping at this point I just have to wait the rest of my billing period out so my cap is reset...

They don't have to tell you if they are throttling you, sadly. They'll lie out of their teeth.
But it could just be a crowded node. Cable companies are notoriously cheap and lazy fuckers. If it gets busy right when you think it's a peak time to go online and gets faster later, that's just good 'ol crowding. I'd do a SpeedTest (WITH EVERYTHING DISCONNECTED ON YOUR MACHINE) at different hours of the day for a week and see.

those bastards. It's not a crowded node thing, I don't think. it's at all hours and I've never had speeds this bad.
but now that you mention it, everything on speedtest checks out fine. Full speeds. It's when I try to torrent or use Live that shit goes bad...what does that mean?

comcast is like infamously shit
like just google, comcast and you will see their neverending quest to be a more shitty company

I've got Comcast too, and the speeds always go to shit around the time schools let out. :-\
I was having the same issues you were, but I'm not as computer savvy as you, and they had me take in my modem and get a "new" (ha) one, and it kind of worked a little better. :-\

Honestly, they've been pretty much perfect for me up until now, aside from a stupid DNS problem for a day.
This is probably a good thing for a bit, I now have about 15gb before my cap and I'm jailbreaking my ps3 today :lol jk, it's fucking annoying and I'm actually hoping it's throttling and not something I have to get a replacement modem for.
Was the modem free Yeti?

Comcast was craptacular when I had them in SW Houston. I couldn't even play an XBL game because it was so slow.

Yeah, they didn't charge me for it. It actually looked like an older model but it's working now so I'm not complaining.

I had Comcast a few years back when it came out that they had that secret deal with Sandvine. I think they referred to it as "congestion management" lolol
Anyway, I dunno how it works now, but it was much more blatant back then when I was experiencing it. My speeds would be perfect until the second I opened up uTorrent and it would try to connect to seeds or peers, and then my torrent speeds would be maxing at like 50 kb/s. Web page loading would slow to a crawl as well. I just ended up switching to AT&T for a couple years
