Title: Die Hard with a Vengence
Post by: Phoenix Dark on December 27, 2006, 01:08:18 AM
Just watched it. I decided to get it instead of Die Hard 2, as you guys suggested.

Overall it was a pretty entertaining movie. The plot was rather bloated in some areas so I need to watch it again. It wasn't nearly as good as Die Hard, but I expected that. Samuel Jackson and Bruce Willis had me cracking up through most of the movie lol, and Jeremy Irons was awesome as usual.

It just didn't have many parts that made me say "that's BADASS" like the first movie. Instead many of the action scenes seemed to just be bigger and more excessive. In that regard it reminded me of Mission Impossible 2.

8/10

Don't ever say that again.  M:I 2 ditched everything that made the first film great.

Oh I agree. I hated MI2. I'm just saying that in terms of having over the top huge action scenes that just weren't that interesting, With a Vengence reminds me of MI2

It's a shame that MI2 is, for whatever reason, the movie people think of when they hear "Mission Impossible," rather than the vastly superior, but not overblown original.

Agreed. MI:I is such a fun movie. When you think about it there are only two big time CGI action scenes in the entire movie.

-Ethan blowing up the restaurant
-The train/helicopter sequence

Instead of having a bunch of over blown action scenes the movie relied on a pretty good plot and some badass-ery.

MI:II takes a completely different approach and it's evident within the first 5 minutes of the movie

Okay, I got you now, PD.  Just making sure you weren't dragging Vengeance through the mud with Mission: Impossible 2.

M:I 2 was atrocious.  Probably one of the biggest let downs ever with sequels.  Mission: Impossible was never about the "badass" approach.
