Title: Official 2011 MLB Thread - R.I.P. Rays 2008-2010
Post by: CajoleJuice on February 09, 2011, 07:58:20 PM
The Red Sox retooled in a big way.
(http://www.jimrome.com/cimages/var/ezjimrome/storage/images/repository/photos/adrian-gonzalez-2010-traded-to-red-sox/294760-1-eng-US/Adrian-Gonzalez-2010-Traded-To-Red-Sox_photo_medium.jpg)

The Yankees signed a bunch of guys who were great 8 years ago, to go along with he most expensive set-up man ever.

The Rays continued being a ridiculously well-run, smart organization.

The Mariners can't possibly hit worse than they did last year.

The Rangers added even more pop to their formidable lineup.

The Brewers traded for a couple of top-of-the-rotation arms in an last-ditch effort to win before Fielder leaves.

The Giants are almost exactly the same team as a year ago, but they won the World Series.

The Rockies locked up two of the biggest young stars in baseball.

The Phillies created a rotation to rival the 90s Braves.

The Braves have even more young players coming up and look to compete for years to come.

The Mets signed guys off the scrapheap, but they have Sandy Alderson and front office of Moneyball's dreams!

I'd be more excited about the Rangers' season if their team captain [Young] wasn't upset at the general manager and demanding a trade.  :-\

I don't have any idea what the fuck the Rays are doing. They traded pretty much everyone away for Damon and Ramiro or w/e his name is and they will fucking fail.

200Rayght was so long ago  :( It might be time to go back to the sox  :(

Shoot Methodis in the face, etc etc

I don't think I'm up to fucking with a fantasy league this year.  Not really feeling the urge to make changes on a daily basis for half the year.

The Rangers have notched 7 taters off the BoSox in 14 innings. Their pitching still bites, but at least it's fun to watch.

Dem homers. :drool

Ian Kinsler and Neslon Cruz both got HRs in each game of the series. First teammates ever to do that in the first three games of a season. I haven't seen that many HRs in the Ballpark since JuanGon, A-Rod, Pudge, and Palmeiro were in the lineup and everybody was juiced up to their eyeballs.

Orioles and Royals at the top of their respective division. Yep, it's April 4th alright.
Title: Re: Official 2011 MLB Thread - Red Sox are a bust
Post by: Bocsius on April 04, 2011, 06:48:39 PM
Not that I expect it to continue, but the Orioles actually had the best record in the AL over the 57 games Buck Showalter was their manager last year (34-23). They could hold onto the division lead well into next week. Be somewhat relevant through May.

The Rays dumped a bunch of players, the Red Sox ADDED a bunch of players. Not really the same situation there.
Title: Re: Official 2011 MLB Thread - Red Sox are a bust
Post by: Bocsius on April 07, 2011, 10:58:22 PM
I didn't follow the offseason too hard, wasn't aware they dumped players. One thing I am aware of is that they have scored all of 8 runs in 6 games. That's shameful, even for a depleted roster.
Title: Re: Official 2011 MLB Thread - Red Sox are a bust
Post by: MyNameIsMethodis on April 07, 2011, 11:00:30 PM
They pretty much got rid of everyone, all their good pitchers and players to keep Longoria and get Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon.

Players they lost:

Crawford
Pena
Garza
Barlett
Their entire bullpen

Damn it, Sylar.

And you're exaggerating quite a bit on "all their good pitchers", especially since Hellickson could turn in a season similar to Garza's last year.

The Rays are just flat out terrible. They're 0-6 and have scored a combined 8 runs in those games. The Red Sox's pitchers are just getting absolutely shredded [allowing more than 7 runs per game in their first five], but their bats aren't helping much either [they've scored 1 or less runs in three of their first six games].

How did you feel about the Pineda-Montero deal? I understand that the M's need offense, but it seemed like a lateral move to me. Why not trade Felix if the Yankees were willing to offer even more for him? The AL West is out of reach for a little while for the M's. Or you could use the money saved in such a deal to sign Fielder.

The best reasoning I've heard is that the M's just like their other pitching prospects even more than Pineda. Either way, it's definitely an interesting trade that could work out well for both teams.

I'd trade Pineda over Felix any day. The Yanks would need to give us tons of talent for Felix, and besides, I'd rather not trade Felix. Period.

I was sad to see Pineda go, but our farm system is stocked with talented pitchers and very little in the way of ready/proven hitters. We're in serious need of bats.

I don't think money is an issue in signing Fielder. I think Seattle's location and ballpark are reasons enough to make Fielder hesitant about coming here.

Yeah, that last point always comes up. I still say the Mets didn't need to bring in the fences.

And it seems the M's front office is as emotionally attached to Felix as all of the fans. I'd say that's a business decision over baseball decision at this point. If the M's traded Felix, no one would fucking go. I hope for your sake he re-signs with the M's in three years.

Actually, no one goes because of Felix as it is. A buddy and I try to attend as many of his home starts as possible and attendance on Felix Days is really minimal unless it's on a weekend.

You can get center field bleacher seats for $7. I typically get those. There isn't a bad seat at Safeco.

Damn, that's cheap. I remember for the opening year of Citi Field I bought a small ticket pack with a couple of friends in the VERY LAST ROW in the upper deck and they were $15 per game.
