this is terrible. I live in Wellington which built directly on the same faultline... Theres gonna be a mad scramble for canned food and water tonight I'm betting.

I was in Christchurch 18 months ago staying in a hotel near the big cathedral. It's such a lovely city and it's terrible they've had two bad earthquakes in a short period of time :(

thanks man. Don't know anyone in Chch thankfully but it sucks to see fellow countrymen suffer  :( Well it sucks to see anyone suffer! The world is a nasty place.

I saw that, but someone is saying the pic isn't of the main one. Really sad if it is gone, it was a beautiful bulding.

yeah  :( It was a miracle that last years quake claimed no lives.

We aren't so lucky this time, 65 confirmed deaths and dozens more unaccounted for.

Very sombre day in NZ today. I myself am pretty upset by the whole thing

Wellington which is a few hundred miles north. Everything is all good here but this city is supposed to be the quake prone one... so we are pretty worried.

I saw pics of a road in Greymouth that buckled from it, amazing if true. (Greymouth is around the H in South on the map).
