I'm trying to find someone who's buying it, cause KMart is doing B1G1 half off... and Pokemon games seem to never go down in price.

I'll probably pick up a version with the 3ds. One nice thing about these versions is that its all new pokemon until you beat the elite 4 peoples. Afterwards older pokemon are unlocked to be encountered. They also gave politoed an awesome new ability (permanent rain) so that justifies these versions enough for me.

Same fucking game with a new gimmick. Damn shame. I bought the first DS Pokemon hoping for something new. Had some fun initially but the online mode was disappointing, the world wasn't big or interesting enough, and it just couldn't hold my attention.
If Nintendo was smart they'd create a god damn MMO. Or something with limited MMO options, like a server with 10-50 of your friends to play with in real time. All continents available, customizable badges (become a gym leader!), etc

Some points from the Edge review:
- 156 new Pokemon, no old designs appearing until story is complete
- battles trickier, more strategic and satisfying
- caves are Zubat-free
- most radical change alters how experience is dealt out: level difference now dictates the post-fight reward, breeze by with a higher level for a small prize or struggle with an underdog for a big payout. This prevents players from levelling their squad of six until they've stormed ahead of the difficulty curve and also reinvigorates the lower-level game with some impetus to return to early locations
- more streamlined, ie. Pokemon Centers and Marts are combined into one handy location
- exemplary story campaign, but game is not the evolution it initially seems
- post-game collecting feels crudely unplanned, a dumping ground that negates the delicately structured early hours
- triple battles, the game's single combat upgrade (bar its energetic battle camera), are messy affairs, lacks the clarity of one-on-one, becomes a frantic free-for-all

The Pokemon designs in this game are incredibly bad. Easily worse than generation 3, smh.
1 > 4 > 2 > 3 > 5

I've made my conditions clear concerning my purchase of any further titles in this series: No Geodudes and Zubats, I'll give it another try. If they're still there, fuck it.
They are not there, every single PKMN is new until after you beat the elite 4. Only reason I am interested, and the supposedly increased battle speed.

Yeah, I can't play a Pokemon game unless it's in an emulator at 2x-4x speed. Playing Emerald on my Android phone >>>> Playing it on Nintendos hardware

Not sure what people thought was the best, I just tried emerald because it was top in dl'd roms, and I hadn't played Pokemon since gold on Gold on GBC, it's pretty good for a commute phone game, I also grabbed a translation of Mother 3 which is a pretty funny, but fairly weak game so far.

The breaking point was when I walked into a cave and encountered a bat. It wasn’t called “zubat” this time, and it had a fuzzy face, but it was still evasive and used confusion attacks and was basically annoying in all the same ways that zubats are annoying.

When I saw the new bat pokemon and the new rock mineral pokemon I knew they were just switching stuff around. Every new gen also has their attempt at a new pikachu creature but it never catches on. Ya know, between the number crunching, borderline ocdness, and the adherence to repetition and routine that gamefreak is, I wouldn't be surprised if the whole company is composed of of asspies. Hell it was founded by one.

How exactly does this game address the ethics of capturing and battling pokemon? I'm almost intrigued enough to buy the game because of that.

You smuggle aboard a slave ship and fight fellow trainers on there as you free them like Amistad.

This game is pretty good. The faster battles coupled with the scaled EXP really make it a breeze to play.

I'm actually enjoying this one much more than the previous games. A lot of the updates are cool as hell. I was sitting in GameStop waiting for DA2 last night, and one of my friends walked in with his DS, and it automatically picked him up and told me he was there. That was pretty cool. It also features a 4-person video chat capability. I can't wait to fully test the capabilities.

And yeah, all the impressions I've been hearing is that there are many many many small features added for convenience sake that add up to make it one of the best games yet. I'm also under the impression that battles play out much faster like the gba games and unlike the first 3 ds games. Unfortuneatly for every one cool pokemon there are two fuggos, but that's still plenty in the bigger picture.
I'll be picking one version up with the 3ds later this month.

Everyone says Black/White is pretty much the best. But if you are nostalgic I guess you could go Gold/Silver remake.

I've never even played Gold/Silver. The only Pokemon I played (and loved) was the original Blue.
