got the strong feeling this guy is gonna try to pull something, so i get on the phone with an ebay rep

based on what i tell him, the ebay rep pretty much says that it sounded like buyer's remorse, and that the other guy can't really do anything until the item arrives, and that if he does they'll regard the claim as highly suspicious based on what he wrote and any judgement would likely fall in my favor since buyer's remorse isn't a legit reason for a return/refund

but he might still be able to freeze the money in my paypal account for a long while, depending on what he does

i am most worried that he'll try to fuck up the ipad in some way and claim that it arrived damaged/not as described, then i am fucked proper - no ipad, no money, hassle with UPS insurance to get reimbursement

the ebay guy keeps talking, and i am starting to notice he is hinting that i should just give this dude his money back, shit like "it seems like you pride yourself on taking care of your customers, so if you go this route you'll be refunded any fees..."

he is basically telling me i can't really win even though i am in the right :(

hopefully the guy will suck it up, and relist it - but it has been my experience that when given the choice between doing the right, harder thing, or taking the easier, "fuck the other guy" route, the vast majority of folks choose the easy route

i will fight it as much as i can, though, i could have sold that ipad to someone who really wanted it

if a solid competitor ever launches, though, i can almost guarantee you'll see ebay's stock drop like shit out of a goose practically overnight, just based on what i see in the seller forums

when a buyer files a claim, the money is frozen in your paypal account and held in check until resolution - they're reviewing the case now, but based on the options they gave me to dispute the claim (out of 5 options, 4 were various methods of refunding payment, and only one let me state my case...in 2000 characters or less), they're probably going to give the dude back his money no matter how much evidence i present

good news for people buying on ebay, though - evidently you can just do whatever the fuck you want, and from what i have read sometimes you can work it so you get your money back AND keep the item

I'm not experienced on the ways people game eBay but my gut feeling is no, I wouldn't trust the dude (and if this transaction is outside of the normal framework). Demi would probably know.

Say your wife doesn't allow you to buy so many tech toys, or that you want to upgrade to ipad 2, or whatever else you can cook up; as long as it's plausible it's OK. Once others learn that you're in a position of weakness you'll apparently be taken advantage of. Fun times we live in.

I've been lucky enough to only have 1 guy mess with me when I sold PC hardware on Ebay. This dude had buyer's remorse on a videocard because ATI announced a new GPU several days after. He gave some bullshit about how the newer revision had a different fan and that there was dust in the videocard (shocking!). Anyways, I deliberated with him a long time before granting a return, made him pay for insured shipping and made him wait another two weeks after getting the card back. I also ignored his emails most of the time. Guy was pissed but he couldn't do shit since it was more important for him to get a return than for me to sell the card.
