Title: March 2011 NPD
Post by: Rman on April 14, 2011, 06:59:43 PM
copy pasta from GAF.

5-week tracking month; Reporting Period 2/27/11 through 4/2/11

Software (New Physical Retail only)
01.Pokemon White Version (NDS)    Nintendo
02. Pokemon Black Version (NDS)    Nintendo
03. Homefront (360, PS3, PC)    THQ
04. Dragon Age II (360, PS3, PC)**    Electronic Arts
05. Call of Duty: Black Ops (360, PS3, NDS, Wii, PC)**    Activision Blizzard
06.Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (Wii, 360, NDS, PS3, 3DS, PSP, PC)    LucasArts
07. Crysis 2 (360, PS3, PC) Electronic Arts
08. NBA 2K11 (360, PS3, PS2, Wii, PSP, PC)    Take 2 Interactive
09. MLB 11: The Show (PS3, PSP, PS2)    Sony
10. Fight Night Champion (360, PS3)   Electronic Arts

**(includes CE, GOTY editions, bundles, etc. but not those bundled with hardware)

Hardware
Nintendo DS (Yes, DS) - Best Selling Platform
Xbox 360 - 433,000 (Top Selling Console)
Nintendo 3DS - Slightly Under 400,000

Not bad for the 3DS, given the price and time of year.  I wonder if this will give Sony more flexibility with pricing the NGP higher, as consumers may not be as price sensitive as perceived.  I'm predicting 300.  Anything higher would be suicide.

I called it that Homefront would outdo Crysis 2. Game had a lot of marketing support.

Like I mentioned in the actual thread the sp is terribad but the mp is a lot of fun although everybody is still waiting for patches for it to work properly when it comes to matchmaking and such.

Wtf at those star wars numbers.

It's a new release on every single current system. Plus, Lego Star Wars is fairly popular.

WOW @ Homefront placing. Marketing budget wins. Shocked by how low Crysis 2 is on that list.

NPD is an indecipherable mess these days. I don't know how to draw any conclusions from this format and its seems futile that anyone attempts it anymore.

We need a Segata signal jpeg btw.

LOL.  If anything had supply problems it was the 360.

360 + supply constraints > 3DS = w00t.

2k has an interesting dilemma. Who do you put on the cover who can garner such mainstream coverage. Do you try another legend? Do you do Jordan again and just always put him on the cover like he's John Madden or something.

I mean it helped that the game was really good this year (passing needs to be fixed for next year) and Elite was canned but I am curious how they maintain that momentum.

there are only a few things americans give less of a fuck about than soccer

armless french cartoon character games from 1998 apparently aren't one of them

While I think Rayman 2 is about the best 3D platformer around, Ubisoft are rivalling Capcom in how much they can milk that damn game.

i'm not.  madden doesn't sell worth shit outside of the regular august release date.

also for whatever other failings they might have, most madden players know where to go for a quality portable madden experience, and it sure as fuck ain't a nintendo platform

This man speaks the truth.

as a non-musuo fan, Samurai Warriors Chronicles was the best launch game.  Just a very playable, fast paced game with good 3D effects and production values.  If the console versions were this good, I'd probably play them (I haven't tried one in a few years.)

Street Fighter is lol if you've put time into the console version.  Just frustration at not being able to properly FADC or TKCS, as well as arthritis

The console ones are way better, though I can't speak for the Samurai Warriors series.  But play DW7 or Gundam Musou 3 when it comes out and you should love it if you dig Chronicles.

What surprised me the most about stuff not being in the 3DS top 10 is I didn't even realize there were 10 3DS games released.  I thought there was like 6-8.

It's amusing to see all the NHaters rejoice at the apparent sputtering of the 3DS. As if they truly believe that Nintendo doesn't have the software to catapult the system to another stratosphere. All it needs is its own Pokemon and Mario game, and it's curtains for the next 2 years.

I know I'll get berated but these software numbers make me wary for the future of this thing and its making me want to reconsider purchasing it.

Isn't the whole point of launch software supposed to be that people buy tons of crappy games at launch because there is nothing else.  Thus if you are a making of crappy games, it's best to be launch software and get inflated high numbers?
