screens released before the reveal, but that's the successor to Warhawk...or something.  It's single player and multiplayer.

Um, that's about it so far.  Those mechs looks like they transform into planes.

HYPE. So this time the Starhawks are planes/heli's that turn into mechs. FFfffffuuuuuuuuck yessssss, I just hope the flight model is as crazy fun ridiculous as the first game, I really liked how the Warhawks were like fucking tin cans too, those Mechs look beefy as. If they pull this off it could be multi gotg.

Was slow to start, Warhawk was really buggy in the beginning but after a month or so was patched up and then had some solid DLC support along with cheap bundles on PSN which brought people in. I played pretty consistently for a few years and there were several times when there were massive influxes of new players because of PSN deals. Apart from anecdotal evidence and the fact it's a 'greatest hits' title I don't think there's any solid numbers for it as downloadable sales aren't tracked...

This looks like Resistance in Space.

Warhawk was fun even though my local servers were sparsely populated.

yeah, so the game looks pretty awesome.  Mechs transform into jets and air combat still seems like a big focus.

One thing I don't get is that if the sequel seems generally more of the same (with aesthetic change), then what took them all these years?  I thought it was taking so long because it was a completely new type of game in space.  But this looks like something that should have been out 2 years after Warhawk.

The aesthetics are awful. My mind conjured up a more sleek art style not this muslims in space shit.

Looks a lot like Operation Fallen Stars maps and that Omega Factory map in Warhawk, got more complex models and textures but the environment shown looks pretty similar to some of those in Warhawk

I never played the first, but I gotta say the idea of melding TPS and RTS mechanics sounds nice on paper.

Starhawk, due out in 2012, is being developed by LightBox Interactive, the studio set up by Dylan Jobe and other ex-members of Incognito Entertainment, and Sony Santa Monica.

Warhawk launched as a Blu-ray and digitial download. Starhawk, however, will be released as a Blu-ray retail only. Unlike Warhawk, Starhawk features a fully-fledged single-player campaign as well as the multiplayer portion the series is known for.

Players assume the role of Emmett Graves, a Rift miner turned gun for hire altered by Rift Energy, found on the outer reaches of space. The enemy faction is the Outcast, humans turned into monsters following exposure to Rift Energy.

The game has a Wild West in space look and feel. Graves goes in search of his outlaw brother, the leader of the Outcasts. Levels are large and open, designed to offer dynamic gameplay with AI that adapts to the player's actions.

The gameplay hook this time is an RTS-lite element called "Build and Battle". As players kill enemies and other players they gather resources, spent on calling down structures from orbit and placed down on the battlefield as they see fit.

Structures include walls, gates, turrets and landing pads for vehicles. Structures can be demolished, too.

On the multiplayer side, Starhawk features 32-player matches, up to four-player online and offline co-op play, and split-screen gameplay within multiplayer and co-op modes against an endless attack of enemies.

The game supports tournaments, leaderboards, clans and additional friend list and quick matches. There's a community events calendar, ticker tape updates, and plans for a Starhawk Android app.

Not a fan of the look, but everything else sounds great.

HB: There are space battles, yes absolutely. There are big, epic space battles in and around planets and space stations and you can build in space too. We’re not showing all the stories in Starhawk just yet due to the production schedule but we wouldn’t have called the game Starhawk if we couldn’t deliver on the fantasy of flying in space, recalling some of those old Colony Wars games, that kind of stuff.

You will get your fix of space battles in Starhawk.

That "sounds" really amazing, and is exactly the kind of imagery the title invokes, but let's hope they actually live up to the promise. It's been so long since a console developer promised space battles then actually delivered.

i loved hovering  :'(

RIP Hovering
(http://www.ppc.bz/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/pour-one-out.jpg)

This looks incredible! Having flying and bipedal combat in one machine does kind of void the need for hovering. Throwing buildings down looks really damn sweet and dem mech transformation animations :drool The destructible buildings seem to just explode rather than destruct :lol but that fits with the cartoony way OTT vibe of the game I guess. When can I pre-order?!

I like how they've really run with the whole Western Space Frontier thing, change the rift exposed infected with the Reavers and this could be straight outta the Firefly universe
