Is it possible to watch streams on PS3?

I think you could watch live in Home last year, no clue. I'm just watching it on G4 in HD.

Move and 3D better be kept to a minimum. Those two ventures have failed, let it go. I wouldn't mind if they snub the PS3 too. I'm only looking forward to more Vita announcements from 3rd parties, an in-depth look at the UI and OS features, and date/price. Please let there be a date and a price.

yeah, was expecting Metal Gear collection on Vita because of the transfarring thing.  No real third party showing yet, and a lot of stuff from the last showing were absent.  But they didn't really need it.

Unless you mean for the PS3, because who cares? there is Sly 4 that we knew about, and, uh, some crappy dust and move game.

$249 for the hardware is more important than software announcements.  It's still a whiles off.

In Japan at 24900yen, PSP2 should do fine; should destroy 3DS unless they make some changes or get a new MH.

That means Japanese software is a lock.  The question is whether US devs will join in.

Also if the PSV is region free that'll be awesome and another huge slap in Nintendo's face.

I really think Nintendo will knock it out of the park tomorrow. Either for all the right reasons or wrong reasons, there's no room for mediocrity when you're revealing a brand new system, and pimping out a newly released handheld.

I also think that Iwata is on the phone right now talking to accounting "can we drop the price? I don't care I'm dropping the price."

I'd say that this is about on par with all the other shows today though Ubisoft killed it with games. The $249 price means nothing to me as I don't want a wifi only version and I'll never get the 3G version as long as it only works on fucking AT&T. Especially until AT&T makes the reception improvements for DC they've been promising.

 ::)

Why do you want 3G?  You can't use it for online gaming.  You can't use it for big downloads.  3G is pointless for the gaming device.  Unless you really care about using your PSV as your web browser/mp3 player on the go, I don't see why you wouldn't get the $50 cheaper version that does everything you need for gaming.

Before everyone gets their panties in a bunch over 3G or not, we should be asking about the battery life of this thing.  If it's what I'm expecting it to be (shit), then 3G will be kind of pointless imo.  Might as well just tether it to a hotspot.

if they are smart they'll allow removable batteries

It can't be any worse than the 3fuckingDS - i had two fully charged, i carried them around in wifi streetpass mode and within a day they are done without playing a single game.

fucking dumb

unless Sony is confident it can prevent hacking, it won't have a removable battery.  The battery was an integral part of PSP hacking.

SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES “PLAYSTATION®VITA” AS THE OFFICIAL NAME FOR NEXT GENERATION PORTABLE ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
Wi-Fi Model: 24,980 Yen (including tax), $249 and €249
3G/Wi-Fi Model: 29,980 Yen (including tax), $299 and €299
Realizes Unparalleled Interactive Network Entertainment

Tokyo, June 7, 2011 – Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) today announced
PlayStation®Vita (PS Vita) (PCH-1000 series) as the official platform name for the next
generation portable entertainment system (codename: NGP). Wi-Fi model will be available
for 24,980 yen (including tax) in Japan, $249 in US and €249 in Europe, 3G/Wi-Fi model will
be available for 29,980 yen (including tax) in Japan, $299 in US and €299 in Europe and
successively launch in global market starting the end of 2011.
“Vita”, which means “Life” in Latin, was chosen as the most appropriate name for the
next generation portable entertainment system as it enables a revolutionary combination of rich gaming and social connectivity within a real world context. SCE is aiming to transform every aspect of user’s daily life into an entertainment experience.

PS Vita incorporates a beautiful 5-inch multi-touch organic light emitting diode
(OLED) as the front display and a unique multi-touch pad on the rear. Together with the front
touch screen and the rear touch pad, PS Vita offers new game play experiences never before
seen on any device, allowing users to interact directly with games in three dimension-like
motion, through “touch, grab, trace, push and pull” finger motions. Also PS Vita features two
analog sticks which enable a wider range of game genres to be brought into the portable
experience, such as shooters, action games, and fighting games. Exciting and attractive new
titles*1 are scheduled to be released from SCE Worldwide Studios, including “GRAVITY

DAZE”, "Uncharted Golden Abyss", "Little Deviants", "Hot Shots Golf", "Reality Fighter",
"Hustle Kings", "ModNation Racers", "Wipeout 2048" and "Super Stardust Delta," as well as
from a broad range of third party game developers and publishers, which will deliver value
only possible on PS Vita.
Also, by having both Wi-Fi and 3G network connectivity, together with various
applications, PS Vita will enable infinite possibilities for users to “encounter,” “connect,”
“discover,” “share” and “play” with friends wherever they are.
On January 27, 2011, SCE announced the first PS Vita application, “near”, which will come pre-installed. It will let users discover what games PS Vita users in the vicinity are or were recently playing, as well as let users share their game information.
"near" also enables location-based gaming features such as "gifting," in which a user can access virtual game-related items that other users are sharing, through checking in at geographic locations that others have also visited. The virtual items can include content unlocked from games, such as character costumes, weapons, and treasures.
Sharing these items between users adds a unique dimension to the portable gaming experience on PS Vita while enhancing the social connectivity among the PS Vita community.

Additionally, PS Vita will come pre-installed with a newly developed application
called “Party.” “Party” is an innovative application for a portable entertainment system which
enables users to enjoy voice chat or text chat not only during online gaming, but also when
users are playing different games or using different applications such as internet browser.
Through “Party”, which offers a new form of social networking, and “near”, which enables
users to share their game information with other users anywhere, anytime, users can
dramatically expand the boundaries of interactive communication.
Also a tutorial application called “Welcome Park,” developed specifically to guide
every user about PS Vita’s brand new user interface such as the front touch display and the
multi-touch pad on the rear, will come pre-installed. By playing “Welcome Park”, users can
easily become accustomed to the three dimension-like finger motions used on PS Vita.
SCE will vigorously promote PS Vita towards the launch as the next generation portable
entertainment platform and work towards expanding the portable gaming market.*1 Some title names are tentative. Titles may differ by countries and regions.

i doubt they knock $50 off the price

They need to knock $100 off the price.

Why do you want 3G?  You can't use it for online gaming.  You can't use it for big downloads.  3G is pointless for the gaming device.

??? You can use 3G for big file downloads and online gaming. I've known guys who used tethering on their smart phones to go raid in WoW when their internet went down, getting ~190 ping, this is NZ so Amurrica should be well ahead with comfortable network speeds and bandwidth caps for online gaming over 3G right?

Nintendo lost.

They didn't lose.

You and everyone else should quit overreacting. The original PSP was released with the full force of the Playstation brand name juggernaut ushering it through Nintendo's handheld domain, and they were ultimately outdone by a humble device that virtually everyone labeled as a "rush-job." On the other hand, Nintendo does need to lower the price of the 3DS, because, at this stage, even I wouldn't think twice about choosing the Vita over it if I had to choose between the two, especially considering the current 3DS library, which is outright putrid.

Vita is hardware that seems worth early adopting.  Sounds like it makes existing PSP games play and look better.

Are there any other differences between the Wi-Fi only and 3G models? 3G seems like a waste of $50

I think the 3G version will be much more valuable in terms of usability in Japan. It's so dense here that I think the connectivity can be utilized on a more regular basis, so that's why I plan on getting it. Also hoping for asynchronous multiplayer using 3G with games like Hustle Kings, Minna no Golf, etc.

If Ridge Racer Vita doesn't have ALL NEW shits all up in it, it better at least have ALL Ridge Racers PSP 1+2 courses PLUS Ridge 6 and 7. I refuse to buy the same game again. Almost worse than Unbounded.

I will be an early adopter because the security will be at it's shittest in the early models !

With the 3DS the problem is they seem to be going with the "Well it worked for the DS so let's just do that again" - the problem is it is NOT working. The one thing i am fingers-crossed for : the 3DS is underpowered so i'm hoping for some hot 3D side on Metroid or some other hotness like that.

The F-Zero GX 3D dream looks dead - unless i want to play in shitty-frame-rate-o-vision

Well, what else could they have done at this stage? There haven't been a lot of ingenious or gimmicky technological advancements with handheld devices that resonates with the casual consumers lately since the touchscreen, and Nintendo already did that; whereas Sony hasn't. So, for Nintendo, it was only a matter of beefing up the hardware specs and perfecting the novel qualities of the DS, which they have; whether they've done it sufficiently will depend on the consumer in the coming years. The hardware is fine, IMO, but they need to address the other two important pillars, namely the software and pricing, all of which will be addressed hopefully this E3.

For what it's worth, I would be fine with my 3Ds if it gets some good games.  I didn't like the DS hardware either.  Though it had functionality like a touch screen that the PSP lacked, it was still a crappy system I played because it happened to get a bunch of great games.

I'm not suddenly going to avoid buying third party 3DS games I'm interested in (all two of them) on the off chance that they'd be Vita games.  But I hope others do.  I'd much rather have Resident Evil Revelations and Mega Man Legends 3 on the Vita.

Also, as a whole, the Sony conference kinda sucked.  Outside of the price they show games or tell us anything we didn't know months ago.  The only 'new' game announcements were Modnation Racers and some loot game.  They didn't even pull a Nintendo and say "These people will make games, probably" except for Ken Levine.  More time should have been devoted to the Vita.  Only big thing was the price announcement.

The elephant in the room right now is software pricing. Apparently GameStop (lulz) are claiming that Vita games will be $40 (http://www.gamestop.com/ps-vita), and Sony is claiming that the production budget for games is closer to PSP than PS3. It's a bit bewildering, because the assets and general quality (looking at, say, Uncharted) seem to suggest a significant step up from PSP...

Price subsidies for identical ports is one thing, but what about Vita-only (if there is going to be such a thing) games? Sony will want to recoup some of those monies since they are taking a loss on the Vita for the first three years.

BTW DC, how much do you reckon they are losing on each Vita unit at 249/299? Any guess? $100? I'm guessing savings from cheaper component fabrication is going to be offset by price drops within those first three years, seems a bit of a long stretch otherwise

If they started with a price and worked backwards i'm guessing that they aren't losing THAT much. $30-40 per unit maybe ? The thing is that Nintendo did Sony a massive favour by massively overpricing the 3DS.

They are also probably covering some of the US cost by the JPN cost - 24980 yen = $372 (!) though currency rates will change of course.

I don't expect price drops - i expect "value packs" for the first 18 months and then they'll evalute where they are sales wise after that.

Yeah the dollar rate is lololol of course, agreed. And Nintendo probably won't even react since they are so fucking stubborn about always making a profit on the HW. I guess their only hope is a big drop in price for the parallax barrier screen, but seems to me that this type of stuff is only ever going to be low-volume production (compared to regular panels).

Will be really interesting to see actual proper game prices and sales, considering PSP SW sales were, well, let's call them modest.

Holding it was fine. Triggers were comfortable, dpad was aces. Multitouch very responsive in front and back--back is tricky to use as you cant see your fingers (duh). And I am 6'2" and have pretty big hands.

I found it sad that the touch screen means you have to get your greasy fingers all over DAT OLED.

Still see the 3DS as the more interesting handheld.

Who the fuck wants to play Uncharted out of the house? Where? Why are you playing it, you should be ashamed.

Uncharted Vita does not interest me in the slightest, especially when 3 is just around the corner. Good thing there are at least 4 other launch Vita games that does. A lot!

PS3 = 1280x720 MSAAx2
Vita = 960x544 MSAAx4!

it's not the first Vita game with MSAAx4, Vita seem friend with MSAA

I'm pretty cool on Uncharted Vita.  The two things that keep my interest are Bend, who made great PSP shooters, and news about how the focus would be on puzzles/exploration rather than shooting.  It would be great if Uncharted Vita was literally Tomb Raider with a guy, instead of guy in a jungle shoots a lot of people and solves like three puzzles.

I'm glad Virtua Tennis looks nice on it.  I'll probably pick it up.

The biggest worry I have is that games will try to include gimmicky touch screen crap.  Dynasty Warriors looked awesome in screens, then you see the gameplay video and it's touch screen QTE garbage.

btw, news about the Vita launch:

Hot Shots Golf and Virtua Tennis are launch games.
LittleBigPlanet is not a launch game

For what it's worth, Vita looks like it was made for a game like LBP. I fully intended on skipping it like I skipped the PSP's entry, but the hands-on videos piqued my interest:

i'll only be interested in it if it supports levels from LBP2.  I liked LBP2, but the entire user generated level thing is lost on me because I'm too lazy to swap disks and load up the game on my TV.  It's easier to just pick up the Vita and check that way.

Modnation Racers seemed to have that functionality.  That's another game I might get, maybe.  There is a trial for the PS3 version for Plus members and I might give that a go.  The beta seemed ok but nothing great.  Plus I'll probably be picking up the new Mario Kart 3DS....fool me eight times, still shame on you.

Modnation is something that could work on the Vita, but everything they showed was stuttery and janky as hell. They need to tighten things up (fps and physics), while avoiding painfully long loading times, they might win me over.

No video output? Are you kidding me?

I wonder if it's a scaling problem. The screen is 960x544 and that's a far cry from even 1280x720.

Then again, the PSP-2000 was 480x272 and could output a 720x480 display through video out.

Don't think it's as much of a scaling problem as it is a "we-don't-want-the-PSV-to-potentially-canabalize-PS3-sales" problem. Can't say their concerns are unfounded considering I've, personally, been deciding between the two devices myself.

PSP video out sucks, though.  It didn't stretch the picture and left a tiny picture bordered on all edges.

regardless Sony should get video out happening.  fact that they've firmly dismissed it instead of giving an "we're looking into the possibilities of a potential video output feature" answer is worrying.

and how was PSP video out captured in the past? Vita units at E3 had hdmi out

lol

it's a "we plan on making a revised hardware down the road to resell you suckers and we want to hold back one or two good features for it" problem

now that sony have tasted that fine teat that is revised hardware sales, they'll be snuggling in next to nintendo on that issue from here on out

yea Japan shows this (they released crazy amount of colors and got a sales boost most of the time  :lol)

Those fucking proprietary cards are my only concern about the console.

I hope the prices are somewhat reasonable  :-\

ROFL, Sony is going to gouge the fuck out of any accessory possible.

I'm sure it technically could. But as you say they won't be able to sell HD remasters of their first party games 12 months later.

Why can't the PSV remote play in reverse?

(i guess because sony want to sell the PS3 versions of PSV games, but... i mean technically... )

In that sense, why can't PS3 play PSP games while it's connected via USB cable?

it can be done on a PC so i assume there's some reason?

Probably the same reason Nintendo keeps re-releasing old titles in new formats: they can.
