It's $50 on Amazon at the moment, and it shows an October 25th release. But the site says Holiday 2011, so who knows if it's accurate.

I'm glad it's finally coming at home.

But after XII, I'm incredibly skeptical on how the online play is going to be.  They've had mixed results with the titles they've released since it came out.

Lately SNK has been doing a decent job with online play. It's no GGPO, but NGBC and KoF2002 are pretty decent on a good connection. I'd still prefer it if they outsourced it to ArcSys or something... if Arcana Heart can do it, why not SNK.

NGBC was good, but 2002 had issues, and overall they still are not as good as other online fighters.

Atlus talks about the netcode:

"The game will be based on version 1.1 and Atlus is unsure if SNKP will change that. It looks as though the online will be based on the post-patch version of the XII netcode. Atlus will be working closely with SNKP on all aspects of the game. As someone who’s played a lot of XII online, the patched netcode is pretty good and, with a bit of work, may well be great."

I think Atlus and SNK both understand that good online play will absolutely make or break this game. I'm still going to buy it just to support the game, but I won't be expecting GGPO quality. I hope it's at least playable on low ping. :-\

Fuck that shit.  If they can't get the netcode working the second-time around, they don't deserve anyone's money.  If anything they should be reimbursing US as an apology for XII.   :P

I tried out the arcade dump that leaked. It runs a little slow on my computer, so I won't spend a ton of time with it, but I still played it for a little while anyway. The game seems pretty fast paced, and I was still able to do a few easy combos and juggles and such, so it was pretty fun. There are lots of characters to choose with a bunch of different color schemes (Yuri in Mitsuharu Misawa's colors is awesome), excellent graphics, lots of nice backgrounds, nice music, etc., so it seems pretty polished.

Definitely buying this day one. I hope the online is solid since I'd finally like to get decent at a KoF game...

It runs too slow on my PC, but this is still awesome -and like they did with BBCS, someone will probably release a simple background pack that makes the game playable on any PC- as I figured it would be.

KOF is hitting iOS today.  Looks really damn impressive.  Based on KOF XIII.  Has 14 playable characters, with more coming in the fall...including Billy Kane!

I'm sure it will play like ass, but it looks pretty impressive.  Just like XIII!

I don't see the problem, they look nice.  Lots of detail and effects. 

Plus the whole point of XIII as opposed to XII is to not have all sorts of movement distractions and just allow the focus to be entirely on old-school 2d fighting gameplay.

It's like soccer...popular all over the place but in the U.S. and Canada.   :lol

XIII's game play is awesome awesome AWESOME.  It's also generated more interest among American players than any recent KOF I can think of.  You can check iplaywinner.com for some nice video.

But it's the online play that worries me.  They SAY they are on top of it, but it's still hard to trust them after XII.

I've been a KOF fan since pretty much the beginning, but watching that video makes me feel kinda bad.

Either they have totally changed the way the combo system works in the past few iterations (didn't play XII only a bit of XI), or I suck at KOF.  :(

ok, so this is pretty much how SNK stays afloat.  No sales in the U.S. but good sales in the rest of the world?

I like and own all the Ultimate Match games on XBLA and used to play KOF94 when I was a kid.

interesting comment though-- what makes kof tasteful?  I haven't taken even step 1 in learning the game at all.  I've always wondered how balanced the games are, since they've had mega sized casts since the 90s.

I sure hope not.  I think this might actually do okay, as Atlus' cred will help and SNK fans should have gotten used to taking it up the rear long ago anyway.  If its a SNK product that fully delivers on modern expectations then its easily a GOTY contender, for fighting games at least.

So SNK has been uploading videos over the last couple weeks, showing some of the balance changes from the arcade version. It's all in Japanese though, so who knows what it's actually saying. But anyway, the videos show some fancy combos with a bunch of different characters, and a whole bunch of stages, so it's nice to watch anyway:

Game looks like the total package. I won't be surprised if it winds up being the best 2D fighter this gen; I just hope it plays well online.

The game has been confirmed to be using the same software (GSS?) as KOF XII did for its netcode.

Doesn't mean it will be shitty, but that again makes me incredibly hesitant to buy this right away.  I am double-dipping and will keep one version unopened if the online play appears to be even the tiniest bit shitty.

'98 UM XBLA had AWFUL netcode!

There's no real confirmation on whether or not this is good or bad online yet.

I feel like this game has no chance in the US. Too many good games came out this month.

Doesn't matter since it's a niche title.  But the game getting pushed back to a week after UMvC3 was a bad idea.

So this already more than makes up for the abomination that was KOF XII.   Game play is so.  Damn.  Good.

iPlayWinner founder Haunts has been big into this game and playing the arcade version like crazy.  His 1up review (B) can be found here: http://www.1up.com/reviews/king-of-fighters-xiii-13-ps3-xbox360?pager.offset=0 (http://www.1up.com/reviews/king-of-fighters-xiii-13-ps3-xbox360?pager.offset=0)

So far I've played some matches online in the PS3 version.  One two bar ranked match, which despite having lag, was actually PLAYABLE, making it 1000000 times better than XII was right there...did not feel much input lag and was able to finish off the match with an EX-into-DM cancel at the right moment with no problem.

Then I played some player matches with someone with a three bar connection.  Felt pretty good, although definitely not as good as SSF4.  I'd put it on par with MvC3 so far.

There's plenty of filtering options available (you can do BOTH region AND latency in some modes), which is good.

Installing the 360 version now.

Picked this up to support more viable alternatives in the fighting game market.  KoFXII was one of the only fighters I've never bought because it felt so half-assed and empty, so I just rented it for a weekend.  This looks like a legit meaty KoF and I'm always down for that.

When I replace my dead ps3 I plan on playing this and Gundam Vs. Extreme a bunch online.  If anyone is still playing in a few weeks I'm in.

Just put in about 15 matches with Lyte before we started lagging out. With the exception of a sudden freeze in one match and the last one the online play for us was pretty smooth. Lyte kicked my ass hard (only won one match). Admittedly I just got the game 5 minutes before we played so I spent most of the time learning the characters.  The game plays fantastic and is a major improvement over XII in every way. Looking forward to spending some time to learn this game.

There's an option to use older music in-game (soundtrack B) but it seems to be mostly from 2003 and XI.  I wish they went with more nostalgic music.  :)

SNK was on fire in the late 90's.  KOF '98 was the best, but it's hard to beat Real Bout Special and RB2, the Last Blade games, SS4, etc.  You also had awesome third party games like Ninja Master's and Waku Waku 7. 

I think KOF XIII is so good that it may end up as in my top three KOF titles, following '98 UM and 2002 UM.  This beats XI IMO.

I forgot all about this "trick."  If you press select or back when selecting certain character's colors, you get different looks:

Raiden: Loses mask, gets Big Bear head
Elizabeth: KOF XI outfit (me bouncy part two)
Kyo: KOF '94-'98 outfit
Yuri: Gets ponytail back
Andy: Ninja colors/face mask
K': Multicolored/split-colors on outfit
Joe: Tiger striped shorts
Ralf: Camouflage colors

UPS has been weird lately.  One time I had a package delivered to my folk's house, and they stuffed it in the mailbox at 9:00 PM.  Just...weird.

Got this today. I just spent a few hours in training/mission mode trying to get a feel for some of the characters, since I'm still pretty new to KoF (the only one I spent more than a few hours with was '99). So far I like: King, Kim, Robert, Shen, and Terry was okay too. I want to use K', but he has a lot of combos that rely on doing his slide cancel (214K -> 214K) almost immediately, and I'm not fast enough to do it. I hope there's some shortcut or buffer that I'm not aware of. I also tried using Elizabeth for a while since I like her character design, but I absolutely hate her playstyle so I won't bother with her. :(

I still haven't even played a real match, but so far the game feels really nice. Gonna spend a lot more time with it tomorrow most likely.

Been playing a few versus matches against my brother and friend, game feels really solid so far. I'm pretty much lost when it comes to move canceling and some of the deeper gauge functions, though.

The one thing to keep in mind is that this not Street Fighter.  "DURR HURRRR DERP," I know, but so many people online just don't get it and ultimately fail.  Hard.   The way that normals and special work is different...yes, I can punch you out of your super.  No, doing it again probably isn't a good idea.  No, attempting to turtle in KOF is bad bad bad.  But please  let me do hops and CD attacks to take your dumb ass out.   :P

K' seems to be this game's flowchart Ken, too.  More so that Kyo.

I'm interested in this but I don't think I can justify buying more than one fighting game a generation, and that will probably be UMvC3.  I know it will probably just end up sitting there unplayed.  If it sells reallllly shitty I'll probably give it a pity purchase.

Raiden has the best alt costumes. One of them is clearly Tiger Mask, and his 10th one is Venom, which is kinda odd but awesome nonetheless. I also like Yuri's green/white Misawa costume. :bow wrestling

Which is nice and all, but I hope they try to improve the actual connection quality a little. This game deserves better online play.

Three (and the rare four) bar connections generally work well enough, so a little improvement should bring everything up to speed.

Having double-dipped I'm also finding way more people online on PS3.

    Improved Connection Antenna: the computation behind the players' connection antenna, the meter indicating the quality of a player's connection, has been improved, resulting in a more accurate and consistent measurement.
    Temporarily Saved Custom Match Settings: players may continue searching for opponents with the same settings as long as the player remains in the PLAYER MATCH/RANKED MATCH menu.
    Character-specific Bug Fixes: NESTS-Style Kyo and Iori with the Power of Flames no longer become unresponsive under certain circumstances.
