12 shootings in seven days in Toledo
"We've been very fortunate and maybe lucky that the injuries haven't been more serious," Toledo Police Chief Mike Navarre told WTOL 11.
One shooting in the spree took place in Mulberry Road in North Toledo. A boy on a bike was shot in the foot by someone in a passing car.
Neighbor Mary Wilson lives in the area and has heard many shootings.
"Yes it's scary because I have little brothers and this is where I live," Wilson said.
Chief Navarre attributes some of the shootings to retaliation and gangs.
Navarre has added more uniformed officers, gang officers and officers on directed patrols to hit the hot areas at the hot times and initiate zero tolerance.
That means those committing any infraction will be stopped, checked for warrants and checked for illegal weapons.
Little Detroit. My dad (who still lives there) bought a handgun last year because he thought it was getting bad. Damn.
