Title: Netbook Bore - yet again, let me call on your WIZE DOME
Post by: dcharlie on June 12, 2011, 09:09:00 PM
So - seems we don't get the DM1z here under that moniker, we get DM1-3000.

The model appears to be running the same E350 , 4 gigs of ram, 500 gig hdd etc.

And i just want to know if this is STILL the one to go for.

I'm not going to be doing much in the way of gaming outside of Mame.

I want this to run C# dev (Xna), cygwin, python, Paint.net and just generally be my ultraportable dev/learning station.

If i can get away with paying less, i'd go for it. I was going to get the US super upgraded DM1Z but seems like MYUS have a fly up their ass about shipping anything with batteries :/

IF i can get away with an Acer or Asus or anything that's cheaper then that's fine. And for XNA i'm developing 2D rather than 3D.

I'm off shopping in about 2 hours :)

Hasn't failed me yet.  AFAIK there's nothing better out at the moment and it's still on the top five on CNET's best ultraportable laptops list: http://reviews.cnet.com/best-ultraportable-laptops/

- Supports new DM1 model. - Reduces the FAN noise.

Flash it baby.

Edit: Also, uninstall whatever crap AMD driver you have there and get the latest driver for your Radeon 6310: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

I need to put MAME on my DM1Z.  It shouldn't have any problems running anything.

MCD, dumb question I guess, but you have one of these too, right?

I still haven't tried that 1080P video player you linked me to yet...

Been looking at this netbook for a while. For any of the people that own it, what type of gaming can be done on this? dcharlie said he's running Mame games at a respectable level. I'm not expecting high level stuff, but can this handle the Orange Box for example?

Haven't tried Orange Box, but I am playing Fallout 3 GOTY Edition on medium settings.  Runs pretty smoothly.  Dragon-Age is also playable -albeit with a low framerate- too.  CoD4 runs well on low settings, but the playable online STEAM trial for Black Ops multi was kinda choppy.

...and the entire world just threw itself off a cliff after hearing that DC's game project was delayed again

Thanks Edge. This would probably be my go to PC for school but it's awesome to know that I can get some Oblivion in while I'm trying to be productive :rock
