Lucas said the script is done and agreed upon and will begin shooting next year partly in L.A. with a release of May 2008.

And no, Lucas did not write the script. The script finally agreed upon is from David Koepp who wrote Jurassic Park, Spider-Man, and War of the Worlds.
Here comes the big question. What film will rule the summer of '08 boxoffice? Indiana Jones IV, Star Trek XI, The Dark Knight, or Iron Man?

Bond 22.
And this is the Duke Nukem Forever of movies. Even if it does come out, its bound to disappoint.

Bond 22 is November 2008. I have more faith in Indiana Jones for one reason. Spielberg is directing, not some new guy. Spielberg I feel is still a very strong director of blockbuster type of movies.
I suspect Lucas will be second unit director though. He has said to want to be on set everyday for this.

So? Bond 21 was November this year and it was STILL the best "summer"/popcorn flick of the year. So shall it be in 2008.
And Lucas will produce, while Spielberg directs, same as the other films.

Yes he will produce I know and he created the story. He will also edit the film I suspect. He (uncredited) edited all 3 of the first Indiana Jones films.
He was also the second unit(again uncredited) director on Last Crusade since he was on that one every day.
Since he will also be on set for Jones just as much as Spielberg I strongly suspect Spielberg will again let him direct the second unit (likely uncredited though).

Being on set =/= directing. Most producers are always on or around the set. They are very much involved, not like an executive producer.

Indiana Jones and the. Too early for jokes.

But he was second unit on Last Crusade, Lucas seemed to imply he took that job purely because he was on set everyday anyway.

Does this movie really need to be made?

Does this movie really need to be made?
Not really.
But it's fucking Indiana Jones, so if it's good, I don't care.
-
More Jurassic Park with a little bit of Spider Man and then use a strainer to get out all the War of the Worlds. Maybe.

Didn't they have to rewrite the script to get rid of Harrison Ford's action scenes? Seems like it's just not going to be as fun, probably a let down to people that watch it and the worst-selling Indiana of them all. Maybe they should've just made a new idea, they're not even writing the script.

No it got re-written because Lucas did not think it was good enough. Harrison will be doing the action. He said he has gotten in shape for it. And "they're not even writing the script."? Lucas never writes the Indiana scripts, he creates the story for them then gives it to a screen writer to flesh out and add dialouge. He did the same with IV.

Ah, last year I heard he was too old and the movie was supposed to be shot starting in summer of 2006 then I forgot about the movie. I really don't like the idea of them messing up a trilogy just to make some money.

It's no longer just Lucas talking. Lucas must have leaked it a few days early. Paramount has officially announced it just TODAY. June shooting date, final script is done, release in May of 2008.

Yeah, I'm not seeing this.

Way to dismiss a film before you have heard ANYTHING about it. Remember, people said the same thing about Rocky Balboa and that turned out to be one of the better films in the series.
