I'm in and this is my first time watching so I hope it will be good.
Fellow bounty hunters Spike Spiegel and Jet Black head to the New Tijuana asteroid colony to track down a bounty-head who is trying to sell off a stolen cache of a dangerous combat drug called Bloody Eye.
Pulling down my DVD and preparing to watch this now.

It was my idea :'(
Maybe I'll watch Martian Successor Nadesico instead
Nadesico is one of those shows I loved (and own) from when I was a teenager that I have an irking feeling I would hate now if I watched it. :(

I never watched the movie either
Honestly it's been hyped to the moon and back. I don't think it'll ever live to my expectations now. Thanks internet.
I never watched the movie either
$10 on Amazon on teh blu-gay.
Also, where the fuck did Toshihiro Kawamoto go? I love his character designs.
I've gotta say, my favorite song in this one is the jazz song during the Desperado fight scene. This series is one of the influences in my younger years that got me into jazz, and therefore ska and swing. Absolutely great.
Speaking of Kawamoto, he was another Bebop alum who worked on Wolf's Rain and Escaflowne.

I remember when Wolf's Rain came out, I was so psyched since it was the spiritual sequel to Bebop with so many members of the team returning to the show. Not as good, but I still love it, even with the OMG KILL ME NOW string of clip shows that totally killed the pacing.

Same here. This show made a tremendous impact on my music tastes as a teenager.
Btw that song:

Wolf's Rain isn't as good as Bebop and in today's world people would call you a furry for liking it, but it's a very well written show. Not as good as Bebop but definitely up there, I think.
Masahiko Minami - Producer - Darker than Black, Escaflowne, Eureka Seven, Full Metal Alchemist, G Gundam, Gundam 0083, RahXephon, Soul Eater, Star Driver, Sword of the Stranger, Wolf's Rain10 out of 11 ain't bad.

I just remembered that Wolf's Rain's OST was one of the first, if not the first, anime soundtracks I bothered downloading. :bow

Psh. I dropped $40 on each of the OSTs for Wolf's Rain, along with the $150 Cowboy Bebop OST Box Set and all the Stand Alone Complex OSTs ($30-$40 each).

I haven't seen RahXephon movie.I already rewatched this when they put it on netflix. :D
You know what? We should more of this. What show should we do after Bebop? Since it got a recent re-release, my vote is for Fooly Cooly.
Has there been an HD release of Cowboy Bebop by any chance (not talking about the movie)? I'd be into this and it sounds like a good time to rewatch especially if it's in HD now.
I haven't seen RahXephon movie.

I have the original SDF in pirate form. I've always wanted to own it legally.

Fooly Cooly would be a good one to rewatch. I don't know...I'm really struggling to think of too many shows that are old enough to warrant a rewatch thread and have broad enough appeal that more than one or two people would even WANT to rewatch them.
I really enjoy how in this thread we have a lot of non-anime fans in here. I'd like to go with something that non-anime fans could enjoy, so Otaku no Video or something like Genshiken or FLCL would be really neat.
We should do 0083.
1. Bask in the awesomeness of the mecha action.
2. Gasp at how shitty everything else is.
Actually I won't be watching this tonight. The link posted by Joe doesn't work. :(
actually, I've been wanting to rewatch Trigun before I watch the movie. People talk shit about it but it was one of my favorite anime back in the day.
Sweet, thanks.Actually I won't be watching this tonight. The link posted by Joe doesn't work. :(
The video that first comes up is "removed for copyright reasons" but if you click the 4share or Megavideo tab, you get a working one.
Ugh Trigun is terrible.
I really don't like Trigun. It tries too hard (and fails) to be funny which has never sat well with me.
I was thinking something cool and stylish, something to wow non-anime fans that is pretty similar to Bebop.
Anime similar to Cowboy Bebop:
- Samurai Champloo
- The Legend of Black Heaven
- Outlaw Star
- Big O
- Lupin the Third
- Gungrave
- Black Lagoon
- Darker than Black (on netflix)
- Wolf's Rain
- Crusher Joe
- Ergo Proxy
- Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
- Memories
- Galaxy Express 99
- 009-1
- Baccano!
one show that got pretty popular here is fullmetal alchemist but it always striked me as yet another anime that's all fighting sequence and no substance
God damnit talk about Bebop.
Anyone else have the PS2 game? I'd love to hear anyone else's thoughts on it. Not bad for an anime-licensed title, and it has two new Seatbelts songs.God damnit talk about Bebop.
We did, we'll talk more tonight after episode two. ;)

I was excited about the Cowboy Bebop video game when it was first announced but never got to play it.
I also think Kino's Journey is similar in terms of structure.

Spike and Jet's next hunt takes them to Mars, where their target, a professional thief, has stolen a very valuable, genetically engineered "data dog" from a corporate research facility.
What was the name of that anime that ran on adultswim that had people like in an MMO virtual reality an there's someone who's stuck in it or their soul is or some mysterious bs? I sorta wished I knew what happened there.
Btw, I like the title and vote for "Bebpo" to be censored into "distinguished weeaboo fellow."
No.
Wait until I do my Reign: The Conqueror rewatch thread.
Never cared for Slayers, either. MAF is a huge fan of it, though.
Scrapped Princess, anyone? Totally awesome show.
No.

I've always meant to watch that. I really liked Æon Flux, Peter Chung is way rad.
Faye Valentine, a woman on the run from the authorities, is held captive by a casino owner who wants her to perform a simple task. If she does this, then all of her debt the authorities are so eager to obtain from her will be erased. At the same time, Jet has a premonition to take a chance with his hard earned money. The former cop and Spike head over to the same casino that Faye is now working at.
Tonight's episode:
ITANO CIRCUS
After gambling away all the money she obtained, Faye ends up getting her hands on a mysterious suitcase while exploring the wreckage of a derelict spaceship. Meanwhile, Spike and Jet pursue a bounty on the leader of the Space Warriors, a group of eco-terrorists armed with a terrifying biological weapon.

While pursuing the bounty on an executive of the Red Dragon Syndicate, Spike ends up confronting Vicious, an old enemy of his.
Julia was originally Vicious's girlfriend. When Spike showed up on her doorstep, badly injured, she nursed him back from the brink of death. Eventually, Julia came to love him. When Vicious learned of Spike's plan to get out of the Red Dragon syndicate, he felt betrayed... and Vicious doesn't take betrayal very well at all.
When Vicious learned that Spike was planning to take Julia with him, Vicious ordered Julia to kill Spike during their next meeting, which was to take place at the graveyard. Vicious made it clear that if she didn't, he would kill them both, so she never went to meet him.
“I’ve never officially said that he’s died. At this point, I can tell you that I’m not sure if he’s alive or dead. I think probably rather than being yelled at for killing Spike, I think … people are more upset that I might make a continuation of the story, but look out for bebop in 2009!
Spike and Jet chase a dangerous enemy who, despite having the appearance of a little boy, is actually more than eighty years old.
Ya, it's a bit contrived and they really had no reason to stick with the "case" after the bounty got killed. It looked great, though, and had a pretty good mood overall.
But the next episode is Cowboy Bebop presents Sam Peckinpah's Convoy!

The AV Club just did an article on this episode.

[Writer's Note: As commenters have noted, I got V.T.'s gender wrong. This is something that I've always been confused by when I've watched this episode. I just assumed he was a gay man. Apparently, I was wrong. Changes to the article now reflect V.T.'s correct gender. Apologies for the mistake.]
While the crew hunts down a Venusian mobster, Spike meets Rocco Bonnaro, who is on the run from the same mobster the crew is tracking for stealing a very rare and valuable plant, which he plans to sell to pay for surgery to restore his sister's eyesight.
The crew enlists the help of an elite computer hacker nicknamed "Radical Edward" to help them track down a bounty-head who has been vandalizing Earth's surface with hacked laser satellites. However, when they finally meet Edward face-to-face, the hacker's true identity proves to be a surprise for everybody.
