EA CEO John Riccitiello said in a call last night that the company has not seen any interest for 3D gaming.
Speaking to shareholders at a meeting, which was streamed online, Riccitiello said that it’d like to allocate resources currently on 3D for social features, which is currently seeing a “high” uptake.
“Frankly, we have not seen a big uptake for 3D gaming,” he said, via Gamasutra. “We haven’t seen a big uptake for 3D televisions in the home, at least not yet. And we’re not here trying to drive the market, we’re here to react to what consumers are looking for.”
Riccitiello did say that 3D games on a 2D display could “provide the greatest entertainment experience,” and that, for “a lot of us,” the experience would be more gratifying than playing it in 3D.
“We’ve seen really high returns here, and very poor returns focusing on 3D. So our allocation of resources have been toward the new innovations that are growing more rapidly.”

No surprise here.

Thing that adds nothing but headaches is not popular.
Nintendo has now learned this twice. Not sure how 3DS 3D got past focus testing. But if they survived the virtual boy, they'll survive this. They were in a similar financial position then too. Lots of similarities between the 3DS and VB...but hopefully no one dies after this!

How 'bout you allocate some of those resources to Mirror's Edge 2? :'(

Will this shut up sfags and their 320x240 Killzone 3D in 15 fps?
Doubt it.
Don't be a hater. The blur and slower framerate add to the cinematic feel.

shitty + shitty = double shitty
-
80s all over again
-
the 3D effect is kinda cool but current 3D tech kinda sucks ass
-
That's more about the hardware limitations in producing double the images
I meant it more like 3D technologies (active glasses, passive glasses, and parallax barrier) are deeply flawed.
-
But gamers still want VR though, right?
-
Fuck 3d, glasses or no. 2d only.
-
3d is not the next step.
-
I don't want VR.
-
i was able to try the 3DS at a pre-release event and i really liked the 3D effect,so yeah i do care a little about 3D
of course it was only 5 minutes so maybe it really makes explode your head after an hour or something...

Holodeck is the next step.3D is a dead end technology.
Kinect :bow2

fuck 3d, can't wait for that shit to be gone again
next time you bring it back, hollywood, try to make it actually work instead of looking like a fucking pop-up book that makes me ill
Every ten years or so, they try to bring it back and cram it down everyone's throats. I remember a spate of 3D movies like Jaws 3D and Friday the 13th 3D in the mid-80s. Always ends the same way once the initial "wow we haven't seen shit flying in our faces for ten years" factor wears off. It's always been nothing more than a gimmick to put asses in seats, only now they have the balls to charge extra for it at the theater and expect you to invest 1000+ dollars to have it in your home. With certain games it can be kind of fun for a few minutes, but I always end up turning it off in the end.

I will end up buying a 3DS at some point, but I'm going to find or make a "Virtual Boy 2" vinyl decal for it.

Always knew 3d in whatever flavor and especially in games was not a big deal. I did think the 3ds would be bigger because kids are dumb and tend to fall for gimmicks but apparently even they aren't falling for it. Just because avatar made billions doesn't mean that everybody suddenly loves 3d all the time and in every flavor.
