Title: Good mods for Vice City PC?
Post by: Don Flamenco on August 13, 2011, 01:47:32 PM
Installed this yesterday.  Man, I forgot all about box hands.  Anyway, game still rules, what are some good mods?

anything for lock-on/auto aiming?  shooting is the most janky part of old gtas

Er...this is for pc. So you use kb+m, aiming is perfect. No need for lock on. Driving takes getting used to with kbm but it's about as good as gamepad, just takes practice.

As for mods, there's a mod coming out called Vice City Rage that gives VC better graphics

Vice City only has that one little stupid plane that was almost impossible to fly anyway.

you might be thinking about the Dodo from GTA3.  it didn't have wings, but if you had enough skill, you could keep it airborne for a while.  it was always easier to turn on the low grav cheat, spawn a rhino, spin the gun around and fly around that way.

Vice City had an actual flyable seaplane used in the mission to spread around candy suxx porn fliers.

PC version of VC (if you play with kb/m) has free aim with the mouse, but it's skill bad-ish because you can't shoot and fire at the same time.  I only briefly looked for mods a while back and it has the usual car model replacements and whatnot.  I was unable to find a proper widescreen fix for the steam version (VC by default uses vert-, which takes the 4:3 image and crops the top and bottom to fit 16:10 or 16:9 widescreen, giving you less of the game to see.)

Yeah, both Vice City games had a lot of flying-based gameplay.

I got stuck at the porn flyer mission when I played VC on PS2.

And there IS need for lock on or something-- you could aim directly at someone's forehead and the bullet spray is so bad that all your shots will miss.

It's been too long since I've played Vice City, I guess.

I really liked Vice City, though it's about as flat as Florida actually is. It's missing some good swamplands, though.

I'd replay it on PC if (a) I could get that Rage mod and, more critically, (b) I had a PC which could run the Rage engine.

I've actually been thinking about replaying the PSP games on PS2 since I finally have my PS2 hooked up to a TV again. I hate to admit it, but I'd double dip if the PSP games were upscaled and released for PS3.  I wonder why there's been no interest in that at Rockstar...?

DSP is doing a GTA marathon and its got me interested to play Vice City. I never did beat it back in the day and I've forgotten most of it by this point.

I need a quick save mod though. I don't have time or the energy to repeat missions over and over.

Though y'all will think I'm crazy, I find the best version of Vice City is still the one on PS2. It's actually designed around the analog buttons of the Dualshock 2, and I still enjoy playing it to this day.

I'm sorry but FUCK keyboard and mouse for GTA. I mostly played Vice City on PC and was pissed to find out there was no way for me to ride my motorcycle slowly through the streets with a shitty keyboard. And not only that, I couldn't WALK slowly either.

Is your CAPS LOCK on? Maybe you can walk if you use lower-case letters?

I completed GTA3 ambulance missions with kbm. Once you get used to it, it really is the superior option.

San Andreas was the ultimate GTA. I've been playing a little bit of GTA3 on my phone and it just feels so lifeless.

Back in the day, I went directly from GTA2 to Vice City so I greatly preferred using a D-pad or arrow keys. I remember that the PS2 version also felt like it had a huge dead zone in the analog stick.

Started Vice City. Enjoying it although I think that's largely due to a healthy dose of nostalgia. The controls and action parts of the game weren't great originally back in the day and they haven't aged well. No way I could play GTA 3 at this point. It would be way too aggravating and archaic.

San Andreas :zzz

:slap

SA had a shit opening with all the awful tutorial missions, but after that it easily crushed the other 2 games with the huge amount of variety in content and hands-down the best map in the series.  VC was cool but its my least favorite because the city is so boring to drive around in.

Vice City is a boringly designed city coming from GTA3.  Felt really small but not good detailed small like Bully's world.  It had nice landmarks like the mall or your mansion or the military base or the nightclub.  Still, it's my favorite for the atmosphere.
