OpenOffice is garbage, or at least it was a few years ago last time I tried it out. MS Office is kind of like Windows these days where it's so easy to obtain a cheap copy through school or work that the MSRP isn't really much of an issue.

It's a bit more confusing that it really needs to be, mainly because the layout is slightly different and some thing are in different directories, but there's really nothing there that it doesn't do nearly as well as Office.

Naw, I was addressing Great Rumbler. Obviously Diunx would just pirate MS Office.

Also as far as OpenOffice goes I read a while back that most of the developers quit and started a new fork called LibreOffice. I don't know if much ever came out of that but it sounded at the time like that's where most of any new development would be.

Apparently Oracle wasn't very happy about the offshoot, but it looks like LibreOffice development is still on-going.

Post by: benjipwns on August 15, 2011, 04:45:34 AM: Oracle refused full open-source and crap for OpenOffice so all the key people forked off into LibreOffice. It's essentially the newer versions of OpenOffice which is likely dead as a project.

To respond to actual topic, outside of MSE, Malwarebytes/SpyBot/SpywareBlaster are generally alright things to have around, latter two for passive protections. None of them really suck up RAM like the good ol days though. There's also PeerBlock if you're paranoid. (Or if they're out to get you.)
