This just popped up at the Seattle PI. Legit?

Here’s the news release from Apple CEO Steve Jobs announcing his resignation:

August 24, 2011–To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Yeah, you could probably count it in weeks rather than months...it's just that weird pro/anti Apple people and non-people (Apple bloggers) have been ghoulishly predicting his death for so long I just don't want to really join their pool.

I think people put Apple stickers on their cars because they have no other use for the stickers. When I bought my ipod touch, it came with an Apple sticker. I didn't know wtf to do with it ???

I still have all my old Apple stickers somewhere, probably some with the multicolour logo.  I should put one on my car cos being retro is hip.

Sucks about Jobs being so sick.  Dunno what Apple will do when he finally goes but there's no question of the influence he had when he came back on board in the 90s.

I think CEOs and all executives are obiviously overpaid, sometimes by order of magnitude compared to  what they actually contribute. But it's pretty hard to deny Jobs re-steering Apple into a singular focus that the company comitted to from the head on down wasn't freakishly successful.

Jobs was responsible for so much in various industries in the last twenty odd years, so I don't mind how much he earned.  The Mac, NeXT and object-oriented programming, his funding for Pixar, his return to Apple and his work with the iPod, Macbook, and iPhone...dude deserves money.
