+ Shooting the shit with Steve Jackson, who is genuinely cool
+ Lots of people playing board games, everything was available to try
- Rooms where people are playing board games smell like Men
+ Over 70 new Miis showed up on my 3DS via Streetpass
- 65 of them had neckbeards and 5 of them were pretending to be girls :(

did you say hi to DjWheat?
-
Went once- got all 4 awesome castle crasher figures- still have em so it was worth it.
-
CHECK OUT SAINTS ROW THE THIRD ON SUNDAY
-
Fuck I ain't goin there on the weekend, today was bad enough
-
I live like 6 miles from the convention center, I've never had an interest in going to PAX or Sakura Con. [shrug]

Pink Gorilla still sells them at both of their locations.

MINE ARE ORIGINALS! *sob*

Something tells me that Sakuracon would be
even more terrifying than PAX but I ain't finding out

social gaming is too weird to me- just shows my age I guess

Gaming with my buddies is one thing, but a mega con where I "bond" and game with other people isn't even remotely interesting.

I'm going to a SC2 LAN later this year most likely. Normally I'd shy away from large gaming gatherings, but I think this could be cool. I just really like the game, the nerds will probably be nice enough, etc.

How bad is TGS? Japanese are typically much more reserved so I figured it wouldn't as bad as a bunch of us.
-
i fucking hate gamers
hated every e3 i went to
hated tgs the one time i went
you get the odd one that knows how to behave but by and large going to these cons is like being stuck in a hotel room with a bunch of 13 year olds who just saw monty python and the quest for the holy grail for the first time
with a broken lock on the door
and nothing sharp to kill yourself with
It's funny how we're such a self hating and misanthropic bunch amongst each other. Don't really see this in non-geek hobbies.

At PAX people are nice, just socially awkward. I got to play some San Juan and Seven Wonders at the demo tables (with people from the actual companies showing people how to play) and I had fun. That being said, one day of it was more than enough.
It really does show you how crazy our demographic is though.

Truth- ill game with my actual friends whenever.

Why do you guys let other people annoy you? I went to E3 twice and never had any problems. I just walked around, checked out the stuff I was interested in, played some games, picked up free stuff, etc. No nerd bothered me while I minded my own business.
-
Its not like I go there and go GRRRR NERDS- in fact thats why I dont go there anymore. Still, when I did go it felt like an event that wasnt for me- and thats FINE; cause I never went again.

I'll visit a game convention someday. If anyone starts using memes or shit near me, I couldn't take it. I'd be lying in a pool of my own vomit within minutes. Need to create an speech changing algorithm. Any "ninty" uttered will be heard as "don't let children near me."

That's it for me. I love gaming but I'm not a fan of gaming culture. Loads of people love it, but it's not my thing.

I'm planning to attend PAX after moving back to the USA, probably do the whole weekend of it, and just immerse myself in it. I may come back hating humanity, hating my hobby, hating gamers and geeks... but probably not. Oddly, I am not as compelled to attend SDCC, probably because I was there in 1983 and don't want to mess with the pleasant memories.

TGS on a "public day" is crowded as hell. People are packed in like sardines, and moving through them is a pain. It's hard to know where to wait to get in line for any given game. The manners are generally still very good, with the exception of body odor, which most Japanese people are still unwilling to admit exists for them, even when subsisting on a diet of McDonalds crap and no exercise. Which makes them smell like Americans, but Americans know about deodorant.
The cosplayers are pretty. You don't get the bearded, fat Sailor Moon impersonator. The cosplayers in the middle foyer are really into their hobby. But as hot as they may be, the booth babes at TGS, are lower-lip-bitingly sexay. It's disturbing.

cosign forever. socializing with earnest, unaware nerds is a terrible hell

that's magical
people who are there because it's their job have slightly different experiences i assure you
That's understandable. It's like working at a big event with a bunch of kids running around. Fun for the kids, not so fun for everyone else.
I just don't get people who volunatrily attend the same nerd-cons every year and then complain about how the nerds ruin everything.
-
The only problems I had at E3 were the GameStop register clerks. How the FUCK does that qualify as "industry related"? In relative terms, it's like the second-cousin-once-removed from the side of the family no-one likes.

You should come up for PAX, just so I can steal you away to go hiking with my friends, drink incredible beer and play Rock Band. Way more fun.
-
I'M IN! I'm so going to raid your beer fridge.
Also, despite my reasonably high scores in Rock Band, I don't sing very well. :-[ But I'm not shy about inflicting my voice on others, so if you're feeling brave and have earplugs, BUENO.

replace "gamers" with "comic book collectors" and this is how i felt every time i went to a comic convention

Most Rugby fans :yuck Also goes for most other sports I like.

I've only been to E3 once but it wasn't so bad at all... then again I wasn't there for work. For some reason, nerds don't piss me off or anything, I can usually get along and not get pissed off no matter what social group it is, even guidos :P
-
There goes Oscar hating on Monty Python again :(

Did you see Cliffy B?
