I know all of the console jockeys get hot n bothered over having some lame ass mascot in the game but SC2, in comparison with SC3, isnt that good. Hell, after SC3 came out it was pretty clear to see that SC2 was a big ol sell out.
SC3 had:
Better stages which were faithful to the style of the original Soul Edge and Soul Calibur
BALANCE. Not perfect, they just shifted things around a lot and REALLY refined the movesets of characters like raphael, taki, and mitsurugi to exhibit their unique qualities.
Lack of stupid ass mascots. Link is gay, Spawns washed up, and HeiHachi was well..I just didnt care about him.
Better looking game OMG
More play modes.
Granted the create a character, like all CREATE ANYTHING gimmick modes was a wash but wtf ever. This is the Soul Calibur to own!
I want SC3 on PSP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A-FUCKING-MEN
:hyper :hyper :hyper

Is it really worth the purchase if I've played the first two versions a ridiculous amount of hours (especially the first)?
-
YES.
:heartbeat Zasalamel
-
SC3 is imo the definitive SC, but thats cause Raphael is badassssssss
-
Fuck. There goes another $20. Is Raphael as fucking cheap as he is in SC2?
-
He got nerfed a bit. Less tracking moves and less priority.
-
I like to think he requires more skill now. Its a joy to use him if you've practiced. Such control :)
-
So this game is more like the original all around, no gimmick characters, no cheapo Raphael? Shit, I am so there, like tomorrow.
-
its awesome dude, I dunno why people were such pricks about not getting their goddamned mascots and it not being on Xbox and Gamepube

I probably would've gotten it if I had a PS2 at the time. I would've bitched about how they should've waited until next-gen, but I would've bought it.
-
That, and the hardcore community got in a bunch because it didn't get a simultaneous or earlier arcade release and thus blew a guard impact glitch (which was WORSE in SC2) out of proportion.
-
Haven't played SF3, but I definitely like High Def SF2 for Xbox.
-
The graphics in SC3 PS2 are better than SC2 Xbox or GC, yes. Especially the models, backgrounds, and texturing. No 720p mode, though, but it DOES support 16:9 480p on the PS2.
-
Wee: yeah but youre apparently a graphics whore. lol GOTTA HAVE MUH HI DEF
-
I agree! The custom character creation alone is much better than having Link or Heihachi.
-
Me and MAF had several ANIME JESUS versus HITLER fights thanks to create-a-character. Jesus is mean with the 'chuks!
-
his pink underwear bothered me tho.
-
I don't like Soul Calibur's 2 fighting engine...if they fixed it than i'll think about it. Meh I don't like 3D fighters.
-
Awesome game, my only complaint was the load times.
I lent my copy to the neighbor kids, then they moved out of their apartment without returning it :'(
-
This one has balance?
Time to give 3D fighters another try then.
-
Hmm. Thanks MAF, I'll have to buy a used copy when I get some extra cash. I was wondering if it was worth it. Some gaffers said it wasn't, but then again, they also said Shadow of the Colossus is a good game. (:lol)
-
This many people have played it? was there are lot misinformation going around or what

GAF praises SOTC.
-
Hey, I'm enjoying SOTC. At least killing the huge motherfucking colossi. Riding around on the horse the rest of the time = suck.
-
Im surprised we arent hearing those dumb 'its like owning a real horse' or 'I always wanted to ride a horse' like we got from N-Fans who luuuved Ocarina of Time. GAF would normally pull that crap.

Well it was fun back then.
...when I was like 12.
And a tool.

hahah, god I was dumb when I was 12

Do they still have you on global ignore over there?
-
Damn, I never picked up SC3. Looks like I'm going to have to, now. And soon, since only two Best Buys in my area have it, and I want to use their $5 coupon.
-
Damn, I wish this game had online play... I would've bought it and had been playing it right now.

Wasn't there a rumor that it was going to be ported to the 360 and have an online mode?

I bet we'll see a SC4 soon.

I hate Soul Calibur 3. To me, this game was the sell out. Soul Calibur 2 was everything I expected out of a sequel.
-
Why was it a sell-out? Is this another WAH WAH IT'S NOT ON A DEAD PLATFORM complaint?

I played Soul Calibur 2 competitively for about a year and a half, winning some pretty major Nor Cal tournaments. The game was balanced almost perfectly where if you chose one of the lesser characters, you still had a great chance of winning if you had skill. In SC3, it seemed as if everything was rushed. Some of the glitches I saw online were game breaking, and changing the moves with the characters I had already mastered seemed a little unnecessary. The graphics were largely the same, and it wasn't released in the arcade (as far as I know). Furthermore, *only* releasing it on the Ps2 was stupid. I was not impressed with SC3 in the way I was with SC2.

The graphics SLAUGHTER SC2 -- are you huffing paint thinner? The detail and effects in the backgrounds -- especially the "broken ship stage :o :o :o , the mountain water temple stage :o :o :o and the beefed up character models (as well as the improved modeling overall) -- are like night and day over SC2.
The GI glitch the plagued SC2 isn't NEARLY as bad in SC3 -- the window for exploiting it was monstrous in SC2, and required less input. At the end of the day, it's sour grapes from Gamepube fans because their console was a hilarious failure.
SC3 had an arcade release in Japan about three months after launch, as well as an update that fixed a few balance issues with Setsuka and Kilik. Dunno if it ever came to the States, since I don't frequent arcades any more.
-
My favorite stage is the library on fire OMG awesome. The shrine stage is beautiful too. The detail is insane.

I don't know about the whole graphics thing. I only played SC3 for a few weeks before growing really bored of it, so I guess my opinion is moot on that subject. They seemed a little murky to me. I don't remember quite well.
And I didn't play the Gamecube version, silly. Ps2 for life.
-
I suspect you just played WAY too much SC2, then.
I played SC2 a bit, but it didn't grab me like the DC SC1 did. SC3 was like coming home.

This is how I felt about SC2. I still played it a bunch (not as much as Nick), but the original still holds the place in my gaming heart. I fucking love that game. My friends and I played it as much as any other game until SC2 came out. And SC2 only remained a multiplayer staple among my friends and I for a few months.
I hope I feel the same way when play SC3, Drinky.
-
Well, the main reason I like SC3 is that its in the spirit of the fun and the theatrics of the original, and still has some really tight play mechanics.

Does the narrator say, "BUT THE SOUL STILL BURNS..." after every match? That was awesome. Everyone was disappointed at its absence in the sequel.
-
I'm so tempted to buy this game now.

Only $20!

I played Soul Calibur 3 for the first time since it came out last night.
Hmm... I'm not sure if my opinions are quite the same as they used to be. I can see it becoming a game that rewards a deeper investment... I'm just not going to pursue that. Also, my friends tell me SC3 is now in arcades, so I guess all can be forgiven. Fighters aren't meant for playing at home.
