So I am ALMOST certain to soon be starting a new 12-month contract gig in the games unit of a large software company in Redmond :teehee . I've been to Seattle once, saw a cool anarchist puppet show before wandering the streets downtown late at night and meeting some heroin addicts, but other than that I know nothing about the place. Please recommend places to hang out, things to see, places to live (preferably places which would somehow reconcile my desire to live in a trendy hipster neighborhood with my desire to have a non-horrible commute into Redmond, yes I know this is impossible), non-dumpster-based activities to participate in, etc.
-
Non-dumpster-based?
...Shit, I'm out.
-
A half day in the class of 'Mr. Gundam's School of Craft Brews' and you should be up to speed.
-
I'm sooooo not Seattle-savvy
-
welcome to the collective! live on capital hill or queen anne, take the connector.
-
If you want hipster friendly, Capitol Hill and Georgetown would suit you just fine. Capitol Hill is more transit friendly, though. My wife and I used to live in Queen Anne back in 2003-2005, it's a great area as well.
I see the Connector pick MS people up in my neighborhood (Greenlake).
-
Wait a sec. According to my neighbor (MS contractor) contractors aren't allowed to ride the Connector.

that is my understanding as well :gloomy

Gundam, how is the swinging scene in Seattle?

No clue. Probably really creepy and old.
-
swinging != pegging
well, usually

He's out in the burbs, but yeah. He and White Man came to one of my Man Night gatherings last year.

The mental image of this just got 10X more awesome imagining recursively clutching tightly to your waist as you zip him around campus on your new scooter.
Scarfs and helmets, gentlemen!
-
Try out the 3 Lions in Redmond. Best. Pub. I know of.
-
I once dreamed of moving to Seattle too :'(
Shattered dreams :'(
-
i will give him a ride on my scoot :teehee
-
Buy a pink helmet for people who ride on your scoot
-
i have something with a "pink helmet" for them :tauntaun

Isn't Seattle one of the gloomiest, and rainiest cities in the U.S.?
I dunno if it'd be a good fit for ya, recursive.
-
It sure as hell isn't gloomy now. It's been in the 80s the last couple weeks with zero rain. August/September in Western Washington is awesome.
-
I used to dream of living in Seattle just so that I could watch my beloved Sonics. :fbm
-
Do you guys have no state income text or no sales tax? I forgot.
-
Yeah, Washington still doesn't have a state income tax, while Oregon has one of the biggest (to make up for its lack of sales taxes). I used to work in WA and live in OR, which would be perfect except that Oregon makes you still pay state income tax anyway.
-
WA has a sales tax, OR does not. But there is some advatange to working in OR and living in WA. Property tax or income? Either way I know some basketball players and politicians do it.
Our sales tax is just bordering on 10% in King County (Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond). I'd be cool with a state income tax if they reworked our sales tax structure, but they'd never do that.
-
Hmm, Orange County -> Seattle roundtrip is only $216. Not bad.
I may be there indeed for Oct 13-15 (fly in thursday 13th morning, fly out sunday the 16th midday)
-
Just got a mental image of recurisve riding bitch on drinky's scooter

Cool. I'd love to take you around the city one evening.
-
So Prole hired you? Nice.
-
ahahahaha, no. I didn't think any of his open positions had much potential for career growth
-
the growth is all mine, baby

and the "open positions" all recursive's

I was about to freak out, because I misread it as an income tax of 10%.

Doesn't Recursive play a trombone? Eh? Ehhh? :cookiem

Ok, signing up for Seattle vacation. Going to fly in on the 12th to hit up that Boris show at night (are you going to be able to go to the show Mr. Gundam?), then fly out on either Saturday night or Sunday morning (I dunno how much partying on Saturday night is worth another hotel room night cost, conference is Thu/Fri/Sat).
So I should be free on Thursday Oct. 13th, Friday, Oct. 14th after about 6pm each day to meet up with Seattle-people and hang out! I'll be at the Hyatt at Olive 8 in Seattle (have no idea where that places me in the scheme of the area).
Although on Friday the young lawyer division that's hosting this convention is doing this:
October 14, 2011
6:30 - 11:30 PM
2011 YLD Fall Gala
Experience Music Project (EMP)
at Seattle Center
325 5th Ave N
Seattle, WA 98109
Dinner tickets available for purchase with your registration.
Early-bird ticket price: $85 (purchased before 9/21/2011)
But $85 for this...ehhhh, would rather spend $85 on ROUND OF DRINKS with bore buddies that night I do think. I don't even know what this is. EXPERIENCE MUSIC PROJECT ...how vague can you get...
-
Hang out with Shouta and Kiryogi
:lol
-
Shouta is in Japan! Plus I already hung out with him there and he be cool.
Kiryogi is in Seattle? I might have a drink with him then. I should im him.
-
I'm gonna be going to Seattle in the later part of October for a 2 week training seminar. Never been up that way before, any suggestions on things to do or places to see?
I must meet my all time internet nemesis if he'll come out of hiding that is.
-
Last I saw Kiryogi he was working at a place near Lynwood- so dunno where he's gone since.

I should totally be able to hit up the Boris show with ya. Give me a couple days to make sure, though. I'll be available on Thursday the 13th as well, but there is a good chance we'll be out of town that weekend. Em's parents might be here from Nebraska and we could be headed to Walla Walla to visit some wineries and breweries.
-
Ok, sounds cool. If you make the concert that gives me 2 nights with my ro-bro which sounds awesome. And it leaves Friday to hang with other Seattlers here and go to town on the, uh, town.
Will fly back Saturday night in that case.
