i think they would, because it wouldn't turn into such a chore.

Uhhhhhhhhhhh....
Look outside the box and examine education systems not in North America such as UK and most Asian countries. You will see they have diligence and persistence and they usually have more hours per week of school on average.
If anything, it's a problem with our educational system in general.
