Official FUCK OFF thread // swift mode = true
Vita - unit itself
--->
NEGATIVES :
It's a big beast
the buttons feel really small
the nubs feel small
the battery life is still shitty
the battery is not removable
PROS :
The digital pad is clicky! OMG ! <3
The screen is like looking at God's anus... so amazing
Vita -->
Ridge Racer
Oh dear? tried to hold 30 fps and failed to do that - game looked very nice beyond that with a rather nice DOF effect. However, yet again - same old track, same old ridge. Not much more to say - it's Ridge , but not 60fps.
Wipeout 2048
steady 30fps with some weird tearing in the intro. Game played well but played on what felt like easy mode and unable to change. Multiple path track, quite tricky to see the boost arrows now as well.
3DS
Monster Hunter
Only saw the rolling demo but it really did look fantastic. Hats off to Capcom - it looks killer
X360/PS3
Dragon Dogma -
shitty frame rate, pop in , tearing... but omg does it STILL look awesome. This is basically 1 player with 3 cpu player Monster Hunter - lot of the mechancse shown in the MH4 reel are in game and dynamic in DD. Sexy sexy stuff.
Needs tuned or a PC BEAST version
Other minor stuff up later i guess.
Bit take aways above effectively.

I would ask something about Vita but barely anything interests me(game wise) :-\
Did you play this

-
Apparently YMCK are doing a gig in Namco's Taiko no Tatsujin booth tomorrow. Hehe. Nice
-
Oh dear, the almighty Vita can't hold a steady 30fps let alone do a 60fps Ridge Racer? Is this real life? Ninthings will love this.
Speaking of Wipeout tearing, it was present in the two official trailers they released so far. I can't believe it's real and still in. I haven't even begun on to bitch about the framerate.
I'm starting to believe there's some serious bottleneck in this device, this is not the first time I heard about struggles with holding a 30fps down, and I can't think if many (any?) games running at 60fps. I thought the hardware was powerful enough, had lots of memory, a familiar design, and none of Krazy Ken's outlandish architectures.

There is some rumor about devs complaining about one core less for games.Vita OS takes one full core for various reasons, this is Sony.
But this are just launch games, not designed for ARM architecture...ports ports ports
Wait year or two
-
Sony exagerrated the Vita's power? :o

Sony exagerrated the Vita's power? :o
Not only Sony, but the spec sheet did too.
-
Does Ridge look like the PSP games or RR6/RR7?
-
how small are the buttons and analog? are the buttons smaller than the DS?

the excitement at the post-TGS party was at an all-time low
Even Sony Shane could only muster the teeniest bit of excitement for Ninokuni (whatever the fuck that is), everything else was pretty much pronounced DOA by all and sundry.

Ninokuni is Level 5's B-team developing a concept from Ghibli's C-team

Pretty boring TGS so far.
Asura's new trailer looks crazily awesome, and Ni No Kuni looks pretty great (I hope it doesn't sucks). New Gravity Graze trailer is pretty cool and Monster Hunter Tri G looks great indeed. Dragon's Dogma push the right buttons for me, but itīs too bad it won't have many of the things that make Monster Hunter enjoyable in the long run.
I was hoping for some beautiful trailer of RR Vita, but DCharlie has destroyed many of my hopes for it.
-
Japan over
Time to go back to playing with fire and making wheels.
-
Pretty much. I told myself I wasn't gong to buy it after I got bored of the DS one and never finished it.
Then the trailer came out and I said "shit, I'm going to buy this and hate it but it will look SO PRETTY while I am being bored to death". :(

Stop buying these RPGs and use that time for dating, Bebpo. Problem solved.

When I'm not playing JRPGs, playing JRPGs seems fun and enticing
When I am playing JRPGs (literally) it seems fun and exciting
When I am done playing JRPGs, it feels like a huge waste of time and energy and sometimes money
-
:lol
When I am done playing jrpgs, I write review, feels good!
Also playing them (literally) can be unexciting, especially when talking about L5 rpgs :P

Sounds like dating to me!

ehy i think it's an upgrade from previous year TGS where the thing i remember the most is inafune complaining about japan being dead
and weird 3D rpg using AR tech are a huge step up from FPS,FPS EVERYWHERE3 2011!
Level 5 can't RPG design their way out of a paper bag
i liked dark cloud 2,rogue galaxy was okay before the plot got incredibly stupid... the worst level 5 game i've played is probably inazuma eleven (seriously how the heck did they develop so many sequels? i guess a lot of kids missing their hero tsubasa?)

Fast forward to this year and... Japan is all but dead
Inafune-san :bow
-
Warning, warning, for those looking forward to Ninokuni
Level 5 can't RPG design their way out of a paper bag, the DS version was snooze central
Pretty though.
I liked Rogue Galaxy, I think my taste is low enough (it was not that bad!). And I loved Dark Cloud 2.
But I have not played WKS because the impressions were soooo bad that it killed any interest. And to be honest the combat of Ni No Kuni looks a borefest, but I'm with Bebpo, the graphics and the Hiaishi soundtrack makes it irresistible to me.
-
BTW what is OFO? Official... Fuckfest Of?
-

Looks like he was right
Infaune :bow2

Yeah, this year seems much better than last year's at least. And much better than E3 this year. Bravery Default and Ys IV rmx being my personal highlights. The MonHan 4 3DS betrayalton is good for a few laughs at the fanboys' expenses, even though I never really got into that game series.
-

So is it safe to assume that Japan is officially un-hyped by the Vita and expects it to be DOA?
If so I don't really blame them, after seeing how they priced their sticks, how they killed the 3G hype, and how they failed to pursue a single popular 3rd party IP, I think they can only blame themselves.
This TGS felt like a cold shower, to be honest.
-
70-80 minute queues in some cases, 30 in others. Area was pretty busy. Hard to guage the reaction but at least people were prepared to queue up and play it.
Isn't it a well-known fact that the Japanese will queue up for anything?
-
I can see [OFO] having legs here.
-
TGS isn't over yet. I doubt it'll wind up being as shitty as the last two E3s.
Modern gaming as a whole is dead, not just Japan. New games worth playing are getting more and more rare.
-
Are there any incoming "announcements" left or are we just waiting for impressions from the floor now?
-
I'll be there on Sunday! Mainly looking forward to Togeki but I'll arrive nice and early to play some PSV shit.
Anything in particular you guys recommend that I try out before the big crowds show up? There really isn't anything I'm targetting beforehand this year (which is unusual, I usually have a couple of games I want to rush to right away).

PlayStation Vita Line Closed Off Within Thirty Minutes of Tokyo Game Show Opening
(http://andriasang.com/comy7u/images/23f9p/full.jpg)
From Kojima Productions producer Kenichiro Iamaizumi comes a pic from Sony's Tokyo Game Show booth on the second day of the show.
About thirty minutes into the start of the show, Sony had already closed off the line to play Vita games. The line will of course open again once things have settled down, but this does not spell well for the those who want to play Vita on one of the public days.
Maybe Sony should have assembled more than just 80 kiosks...
-
Hah, maybe I'll just spend the day playing the new Onechanbara for Xbox360 over and over again.
-
I want Onechanbara impressions. It looked hot from the scans. I 1000'd the one that came over
-
The new Onechanbara looked kind of nice when I looked back while waiting for a Gears 3 Horde session to start.

That's good to hear, but I'm gonna blame the number of available kiosks. I'm not entirely sure if it's comparable to other systems during conventions prior to their launch, but it seems kinda low to me.

Can anyone who goes, get one of these for me? PM me please.

Mehgaton!
As revealed EXCLUSIVELY on the new 8-4 Play podcast, Shane Bettenhausen (previously of 1UP, Ignition) has landed a job at SCE in Developer Relations and Business Development. Discuss.
He was melting left and right at recent 8-4 play because MH 4 is not on Vita...bu bu bu graphics

Someone needs to check these two things out.

1. Is it possible to press buttons opposite each other?
2. Dunno why the guy was "bouncing" his thumb on the control pad, cant he just "roll" on them?
-

I'd get them but the lines for Square's shop is always absurdly long, like waiting an hour+ to get in, and hoping that a popular item doesn't sell out. I'll see what I can do, but with exchange rates and shipping, it sure isn't going to be cheap.

If you get one, I will pay. That's all.

1. Is it possible to press buttons opposite each other?
yes, i have small hands and it was fine
2. Dunno why the guy was "bouncing" his thumb on the control pad, cant he just "roll" on them?
not sure either - maybe to enjoy the satisfying "click" feeling of the digipad.
Thank you much appreciated.
-
TGS has been pretty terrible this year, but at least we found out Ni no Kuni (PS3) is coming to North America in early 2012.
-
I wonder how much effort will be put into those HD remakes(FF X in particular)?
Will it be in line what Sony is doing--bump resolution, stable framerate, some minor touches
Or Halo CE way--massive changes to lighting, shaders, etc
MS probably counts on few millions sold so higher budget is justified but FF X should sell few millions too
FF X is random battles,no controllable camera linear experience so it should be easier, right?
-
I just wanted a confirmation :P
Next gen is not needed in Japan, they can spit out PS2 ports for at least 10 years. If FFX HD turns to be popular(i believe it will be),more ports incoming.
Good thing is that those games will look great on small Vita screen, bad news is that we will have to pay for them...unless Vita gets hacked
-

People have been saying that, but I'm having a hard time visualizing it. Clicky capacitive screens? I'm aware they can be pressure sensitive, but clickly is just not clicking (round of applause please). What's the point of having it?
-
Is there any way we can shitcan the last few posts? It's making me look good, my cred is at stake.
But back on topic: are all of the face buttons are clickly or just the D-pad?
Either way, I'm not sure how I feel about this. I think I'm one of the few who loath the 3DS' clickly buttons, especially for retro and fighting games.
-
One of the things I like about the new handheld is the "click" of its buttons. They're not soft or squishy; you get a definitive click when you've depressed them, really letting you know you've hit the button. The Vita's d-pad has the same feel to it, and for a fighting game this felt great.
...
Unlike the d-pad on the DualShock 3 (or the PSP, for that matter), which is broken up into four individual sections, the Vita's d-pad is (as you can see in the pic above) actually joined in the middle, raised from the surface of the handheld and with sharp (well, not sharp) edges. This meant that whipping my thumb around the pad to move my characters and pull off special moves was both fast and, more importantly, precise, the raised sections and "click" letting me know that, yes, I'd definitely just pushed down.
...
It also meant that no longer was I pushing down one or two of four individual "buttons" to interact with the d-pad. Because they're joined in the middle I could "roll", closer to what you'd do with a stick or fancy control pad. It doesn't match the feeling of using an actual arcade stick, but for a handheld, it feels pretty damn great.
Everyone is bent on making me look stupid :gloomy
-
Vita doesn't look much bigger than the PSP tbh. Only screen size has gotten much bigger.
Difference in size seems pretty minimal.
-

This is the most-accurate and heart-wrenching puddle of conciseness I've ever seen.

You know all that crap that the Xbox 360 does in the background which the PS3 cannot and will never be able to support? Sony wants to sidestep that problem again. Devs will also be complaining about some pre-allocated RAM soon, I suspect.

NIS America is bringing Gladiator Vs to America as Clan of Champions for PS3, 360 and PC. TGS redeemed :bow2
http://www.siliconera.com/2011/09/15/nis-americas-first-game-on-xbox-360-and-pc-is/
I think this is the first Acquire game on PC. PSP version (Gladiator Begins) is great. Though, now it has fantasy elements like orcs and elves, which is weird since the PSP game was like a gladiator sim.

Yeah so I went yesterday.
I got Demi his slime.
No one was getting near the PSV booth.
That labyrinth game for the 3DS is interesting although I'm not sure I fully understood the point of it. I like 1st person dungeon crawls but this one is really odd, the control system kind of works once you get used to it, although there was no reason to look up or down in the demo.
Soul Calibur 5 is pretty funny, they really did just change the character models. Had no problems with not-Taki.
Forza 4 is gorgeous.
The charity auction at the end shows you how much disposable income these otaku have. There were 3 sets of Love Plus signed E-Amusement cards, they all sold for 50000yen each.
The only Togeki event was a 64-team Gundam vs. Gundam Extreme tournament. I watched the majority of it, some interesting tactics in use. Winning team used real underdog robots, good stuff.
The biggest difference I saw in TGS is that cell phone gaming had a huge presence, it's always been around but usually regulated to the back of the halls. This time they easily had as much space as consoles, Gree's booth was massive.
Best part of the day was going to Costco afterwards and stocking up on bagels and chocolate-covered raisins!
