Tim Schafer and company are hosting an event very soon brimming with promise. Sequels? New IP? We can't wait!
As you can see in the above image, Double Fine has a lot of business in store for gaming journalists on October 14. Will we see followups or DLC to games like Stacking, Iron Brigade (formerly Trenched) or will these be entirely new projects?
Unless there's an embargo on the info, we should have all the details for you guys on that Friday night.
What would you like to see out of Double Fine next?
PSYCHONAUTS 2 COME ONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
PSYCHONAUTS 2 COME ONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE
iphone/android gamesthat was my first thought too. At least one or two of them. Double fine is still well over a hundred people, right? They'd have to either juggle a lot of balls or work on bigger projects to keep all their staff employed.
1 kinect title
1 DLC
1 port
Sounds about right so far. Double Fine could almost impersonate a Japanese gaming studio with its no budget approach to game releases!spoiler (click to show/hide)will still buy all their stuff to support them :'([close]

I'd say it's generally safer to say their approach is to take stuff that's hardcore, and make it more approachable. I loved Costume Quest, but don't like most RPGs. I hate tower defense, but loved Trenched. I used to like RTS, but was never competitive; I am apparently one of five people who liked Brutal Legend. ]Can anyone honestly say that the gameplay in Psychonauts was not good?
A friend who likes tower d a whole bunch really enjoyed Trenched, so I'm guessing they managed to make that conversion to mainstream without pissing over whatever turns on hardcore tower d fans.Same here!spoiler (click to show/hide)will still buy all their stuff to support them :'([close]
Because they're a company of writers and artists. Game design has never been their strong point.
You say the platforming, but the platforming is a core of only a few of the levels. The Milkman Conspiracy, Black Velvet, Lungfishopolis, and the battle of Waterloo are all very adventure-y. Black Velvet level is full of great platforming too in that you have to stay out of the way of the bull's path and use sewers and signage with speed.
The other levels, such as Mila and the coach's levels are fucking fun and Sasha's level has barely any platforming in it and is primarily an action stage.
Psychonauts has very inventive and creative level design. You can bring up the platforming all you want, but Psychonauts is in no way a pure platformer, and I even find the label of platformer to be entirely wrong due to the myriad of gameplay styles the game has. The only really bad level is the Meat Circus.

More like them trying harder to make the IP more popular so they can make the next one, being a cynic I naturally doubt we'll ever see a Psychonauts 2 anytime soon.Sadly, I agree with you. I suspect that the return of Psychonauts is probably a side-effect of some contract rights reverting to DF after being held by Majesco for some set period (five years?). At this point, I'm pretty sure Psychonauts is being revived to keep it in the public eye, but it wouldn't shock me if the sequel is -not- a huge, walloping, AAA title, but instead something more manageable.
Oh, you don't know the story about how Psychonauts went back to Double Fine? It's pretty awesome.
So there's this rich nerd who loves the shit out of Psychonauts and Double Fine, apparently. He's the one that bought the rights back from Majesco for Double Fine and he's also the one who funded all six of these announcements.

Why doesn't he FUND THEM TO MAKE AN ADVENTURE GAME GODDAMNITspoiler (click to show/hide)I wish I was a billionaire so I could fund:
-Double Fine point & click adventure game
-Zone of the Enders 3
-Shadow Hearts 4 (would rebuild Nautilus out of Feel Plus and whereever the rest went)
-More games from Kamiya[close]
i'd buy the rights to shenmue, then film me pissing on the documentation of those rights. i'd then burn that video to dvd, call it "Shenmue 3: The Legend Returns" and sell it to all of you chumps for $60, and YOU'D BUY IT
I would exclusively release Shenmue III as a Cow Clicker cow (Shenmoo, $60)
If you want to be mean, just give Shenmue 3 to Silicon Knights.
