PDX is much more lax than SeaTac. We flew through Portland on the way to Tokyo last year, I couldn't believe the difference. Customs was easier, too.

Hey MAF, where you going?

Airports suck in general, but the ones in Asia are better than the ones in the U.S., IMO.

They're all the same.  Well, less lazy fat staff in Asian countries, but the same bullshit can happen anywhere.

Arizona is a special kind of hell.

Tucson is even worse. It's where dreams go to die.

I've never had an issue with airports, really, even though I spent a lot of time in them as a kid.

I like airports.  Maybe it's because I traveled a lot as a kid and was so used to the whole process, it became fun, down to waiting and identifying bags at the destination.  I once stayed at a Frankfurt hotel connected to the airport and it was great to explore at night.  I even like The Terminal; I can get through it only fast forwarding past a couple scenes!

You should read this book. It has a great description what makes places like airports so fun to hang out.

I'll never understand the people who stand in line with their carry-on, waiting to board as soon as it's announced.

I always kick back with an ipod until the line is completely gone and be one of the last few people to board the plane. Much easier that way. If you're the first person on the plane, all that means is you're going to be stuck in one of those little midget seats longer than anyone else.

because they wanna hog the carry-on space, der. saves them the $20 or whatever they hafta pay to check bags. airports are great locii of human annoyances

My wife flies so much for work every year that's got super some duper platinum elite status. We always get to board first and have dibs on free first class upgrades.

This looks interesting.  Added to my Amazon wishlist!

You won't regret it. It's great, it articulates thoughts about travel travel very well.

Have you joined a Minuteman group or volunteered to help build the wall?

It's pretty awesome seeing the GOP candidates try to outdo each other on the whole wall thing.

"I want a wall with an electrified fence!"

"I want a wall with TWO walls, and a moat in between!"

"I want the moat to have alligators!"

"My wall will have snipers!"

etc etc

I wonder where we'll get the money for all of this.  Probably by taxing taco trucks.

At least AZ is open carry.  That makes me jelly.

They're still open carry, right?  MAF, have you seen anyone packing heat in the grocery store yet?

My airport experience today was good.  I think as I've grown older I've enjoyed the airport experience more/been less annoyed.

The only way it could be significantly improved is if a 20-40 year old girl sits in the seat next to me and gives an opportunity to chat like in the movies.
