Title: People still use AOL?! Wow.

I was hearing someone talking about going to the parent's home during the holidays and they still use AOL, which they still pay for on top of their regular  Internet service.

I thought is was dead.

Ah, AOL, the memories.

downloading porn on 56K AOL  :-[

I used Kazaa to download movies, and would often get like 2 minutes worth of a film downloaded before having to get off the internet. Jerking off to porn by intervals of 2 minutes, those were the days

I can't even remember how slow 56k is like anymore. I think we only had it for 2 years, I know my family switched to cable Internet in 1998.

I can remember my mom yelling at me for tying up the phone line though.  :lol

AOL has been trying to reinvent itself as a media conglomerate (they own Huffington Post, TechCrunch, etc.). Supposedly some ridiculous proportion of their revenue still comes from people who actually have cable/DSL from another ISP but don't realize they don't need to keep paying AOL dialup fees to get online and check email, though.

(I have to admit the "Comprehensive safety and security tools powered by McAfeeŽ**" are REALLY tempting)

That reads like an artice from The Onion, except less believable.

Even though I couldn't stand using AOL, deep down inside I kind of miss getting those free frisbees in the mail.

Seeing as how no one really uses a land line at home, a person who's still using AOL won't have to worry about the dropped line! Or maybe a person who's still using AOL is still dependent on a land line.
