My least liked music, together with drum and bass.

Just don't get it.

Maybe there's a specific type of jazz you may like?

Examples:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQsvMf8X0FY

or

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faJE92phKzI

or

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4ZyuULy9zs

or

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71xDRpOGAho

or

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kvtjk_RWagI

What is there to get? Like all musical genres there are specific styles. Many have carried over into rock and roll, which would make it more easy to get into. Michael Jackson, for instance had very heavy funk/jazz leanings earlier in his career. If you can enjoy Michael Jackson/Quincy Jones combo, you can find jazz to enjoy.

Yeah not sure about the notion of "getting" a certain form of music. Either you like it or you don't. Nothing wrong with not liking it of course but the same goes for anything. There are certain forms of free jazz or even early jazz that don't appeal to me but in general I love the music. It was something I had to grow into in the sense that when I was younger I felt like I was a pretentious asshole if I said I like jazz because it seemed like old people music. I had the same issue with classical music.

It all sounds the same to me, like something I would put on as background noise to a nice dinner.

Or if I had a restaurant.

Maybe soundtrack to scene of a city overview in a movie.

I wouldn't listen to it just like that. I just don't get it, there is nothing to look forward to while listening since it's so unpredictable. It sounds pleasant but after 5/10 min its all jibberish, like someone speaking a language you don't know.

Depends on the jazz. Some jazz is low key with heavy vocals and interludes and bridges in between the singing. Some are heavy on instrumentation. Some jazz is schizophrenic like what you described and that's the appeal.

Jazz works a lot like classical music in terms of structure.

Yeah I can't listen to classical music without structure either  :-\

I really like how it sounds but then it gets annoying and boring.

It's weird because the more monotonous the music the more I seem to like it and find it engaging. I think the mind likes repetition.

Once again that's fine. To somebody who doesn't like Metal it all sounds the same. To someone who doesn't like dubstep. It all sounds the same. etc, etc.

Most jazz especially classic jazz is very relaxing and is sort of background music to a lot of people. Not all of jazz is that way especially fusion stuff or experimental stuff but a lot of it is. Especially for a modern audience where nuance is a lost virtue. I like jazz because of the improvisation and those mix of instruments and tone which you don't really get in any other genre. But those same things turn off other people.

I can def see it's appeal as background music.

I'd feel all sophisticated putting it on and drinking wine with friends  :)

I'm pretty traditional with my jazz taste. Nothing to really out there. Stuff like Duke Ellington, Coltrane, Lateef.  A couple of my favorites.

Friday nights used to be driving downtown to jazz music, dancing for a few hours to jazz and then driving home to chillout jazz.

The best genre of music ever created.

Good modern jazz? Check out Taylor Eigsti, Gretchen Parlato, Esperanza Spalding, et. al.

Disliking jazz auto-invalidates your opinion about anything, as a general rule of thumb.

jesus christ, people.

I've been listening to a lot of Albery Ayler recently to try and foster an appreciation of Free Jazz.

I absolutely adore Hard Bop, Post Bop and Soul Jazz so that strong structure is ingraned so when I hear stuff like this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtiSA2RKDzc

I largely recoil because there's nothing there for me to grab and hold while the musicians play.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWkUsBG0EoA
is pretty incredible though.
