What's your favourite kind? I'm chowing down on an empire apple right now and it's fucking fantastic. Gushingly juicy, sweet like candy and firm on a level that no obvious euphemism can truly do it justice. SO GOOD.

honey crisp season was the best this year.  I stick to honey crisp and fuji animu apples and haven't had a mealy one in years.

I used to eat Red Delicious as a kid, and didn't remember them being as awful as they are now.  Read somewhere that they kept being bred for thicker skin so they'd take longer to spoil, and that today's Red Delicious are actually worse for it, rather than it just being nostalgia.

basically the same as Fuji, but i find they stay fresher and crisper than Fujis


Mandark -- that's part of the reason I hate them, thick skin, but you still bite into a mealy mess.

I'mma check out honey crisp. My main complaint with Fuji is they're never very crispy when I have them. Maybe I'm unlucky.

Actually nectarines are a member of the peach family and all peach seeds are poisonous.  So are apple seeds.

I get real cravings for these sometimes. Used to eat them all the time as a kid but never seen 'em in Japan. On the sour end of the scale, complex autumnal flavors, great for cooking.

Clearly poor and living in the wrong country since you've never had a fresh, crispy Apple. My favourite. Maybe a nice Pink Lady  :drool

Also, there was another more popular Apple thread a while ago right? I think I said my favourite was Golden Delicious then. Best stewed Apple ever, when they're super fresh and the right ripeness they're great but they go floury really fast once picked so they're not really a commercially grown Apple these days  :(
