the dude who designed it is too close to his work to even see it.  a phenomenon that anyone who has ever sketched seriously will know.  you literally won't see glaring faults in your shit unless you take a day or two without looking at it.  never doubt the power a fresh set of eyes has.

First I've heard of it.

I think it's pretty gorgeous but I can see why certain people might find it offensive.  I doubt it was really a case of wanting to be offensive.

I'm more pissed that Korea decided to rip off Middle Eastern art.

Its a Dutch design.

Dude says it never crossed his mind when he was designing it.

It's pretty expensive to build buildings so I doubt they'd really go for tastelessness deliberately. I think it looks kinda wonky from the frog/street perspective but it's cool with the gardens and stuff from the birds view.

Why should Korea care what Americans think?

Every single architect designing twin, towering buildings post 9/11 thinks about the NYC ones.

except this one literally looks like it, not that thats wrong, its just that the damage control itt is pretty funny. come on

Its been 10 years, he's not american, I believe him.

I also dont think it looks similar, except that its two towers.

really? it even has the plumes of flame from when the jets slammed into the sides, one is taller than the other, they are staggered in a similar fashion. if you really don't see any similarities you're eyes might be distinguished mentally-challenged :dur

More of a case of you guys projecting an image burned into your contentiousness onto other things than the architect being a deliberate douchebag

it's an impossibility to me that they just didn't notice this when designing it.  I'm not offended and I know this building will never get built which they would know too, so it just seems like a publicity stunt.

to be fair to momo there is a lot of contentiousness in this thread.

I'm not offended, it seems Americans were in need of something to morally outrage about this month and these buildings took the hit. The up-close look at the boxy "cloud" area looks awesome, though.

the awesomeness is offset by the extreme inherit danger, for me at least, anyway.

Danger of what?

Nice to see different opinions, at least no one normal is offended.

of falling to a horrible death, i see little people standing next to where there should be a barrier, but lo there is not.

wait i just noticed that there are barriers, glass barriers.  glass. the strongest substance in construction history.
Title: Re: Are americans really offended by this beautiful building?
Post by: Don Flamenco on December 13, 2011, 11:34:30 AM
the trees and people and shit on top of those boxes seems like a little architectural fantasy.  it would be windy and cold as fuck up there.  even if there are glass boxes fully encapsulating each one, the wind noise would be a huge pain in the ass.

this is in the outskirts of Prague.  it's just big and yellow.  and the inside made me feel like I was in The Road....not exactly what I'd call "up to code" with light flooding everywhere even though it was just drizzling out and it had the smell of burning dust from the lights in every room.  There was an art exhibit and I was one of the only people there...creepy.    You get a view of a huge abandoned greenhouse area from it...all rotting plants and rusted exoskeletons of greenhouse covers, along with other rusty equipment.  It's where you'd fight dogs, insects, and poisonous plants in a resident evil game.

Comparing this to socialist architechture  :lol

Also the US has its fair share of lousy shit too, I dunno what you guys are feeling smug about.

Kazakstan or New York?

Business, I'm just saying that bitching that ugly isnt confined to Eastern Europe since the world is full of uninspired designs (or what we now consider uninspired).

Btw this is how Kazakstan looks

I have this cool book about Sovjet architecture at home, some cool designs there. I'd recommend it if you like architechture.

Comparing one building in New York to all the buildings in Kazakhstan is a little unfair.  That picture on the bottom is the American dream: big houses, big yards, and tree lined streets.

The American Dream = Cookie Cutter Houses  :yuck
