Coolio. DLing now.
Why is the Quicktime program a horrible iTunes-lite now? :-\
Because Apple.
-
Looks alright; too much CGI backdrops, which is giving me a Star Wars prequel vibe. But I loved the singing, and the Gollum appearance gave me nerd chills
-
OH MY GOD I'M GEEKING OUT.
-
Cool trailer. Hate the subtitle. Music mix was a little weird at the end, I could see what they were going for.
I have a feeling though that many of the people who liked the LOTR movies will find this might not be their kind of thing. Less action and more lighthearted fun.
-
SCHWING!
-
:bow
-
Heard it's being shot in glorious 48 fps
It sure is. :bow Peter Jackson :bow2
I'm so excited :omg

Maybe it's because I just saw the Prometheus trailer before this one, but this looks tame. What's the budget/scale for The Hobbit?
-
Where's the Prometheus trailer? I thought they just had a teaser of the trailer up?
-
I don't see this being as big as The Lord of the Rings movies were.
It'll be the Saints Row of movies, then: Better than GTA, but only a limited few will realize it.
-
I HAS AN EXCITE
-

there are links in the gaf thread about it. I don't remember what I used.
it's not the teaser. it's a really high/nice quality cam vid of what's coming on Thursday. it's looking pretty incredible.

yeah ive got some pretty solid wood right here

Sick fuck :teehee

Looks great. I love Peter Jackson and I LOVE the cast of this movie. Particularly Martin Freeman as Bilbo. Perfect casting.
It'll be interesting to see how they handle Gollum in this movie – whether they stick to his original model or completely redesign him. I hope they go for the latter, because Gollum looks atrocious now on repeat viewings of the LOTR trilogy.
-
the special effects in the LotR movies were always horrible, Gollum always looked liked shit
-

$500 million across both movies.

Can't you get killed in NZ for saying shit like that?

Particularly Martin Freeman as Bilbo.

Gollum was the only one I thought stood out. The rest was pretty good (aside from the fact that the sweeping shots were obviously NZ.)
-
The CG in LOTR is mostly still great other than Gollum. The battle at Helm's Deep? omg dat CG
can't do much better than WETA. They're the industry standard, as far as I'm concernced
-
Damn that looks pretty!
-
I coudn't tell if they are keeping the children's book vibe or making more LOTRish.

This movie will make PD yearn for Kiwiland even more.
I always liked the Hobbit more the LOTR as a book, so hope the movie will be the same :) Less drama, more magic!

It's funny though that the business with who-gets-what at the end and Bilbo's stunt with the arkenstone is more morally ambiguous/complex than anything in LotR. But it's done in such a great way and slots in super well with the rest of the story. Really looking forward to the movies, hopefully they don't fuck it up.

I don't see this being as big as The Lord of the Rings movies were.
The Hobbit novel is nearly as big The Lord of the Rings. I believe it has sold more than 100 million copies. One of the highest selling books of all time. It shouldn't have a problem.
And this will outgross Return of the King I think. No question. 10 years of ticket price inflation? Plus the 3D & IMAX"tax" Return of the King didn't have? It won't have to sell as many tickets to easily outgross it.
-
never read it. looked it up on wikipedia and it appears to be a heist story? but instead of a bank, it's a dragon's treasure? that seems novel. Hopefully it turns out well.

The treasure is the dwarves originally. The dragon stole it. They are on a quest to reclaim their treasure and kill the dragon. There is a side-story as well of Gandalf and the other wizards fighting Sauron.

Sauron like the dude in the intro for lotr? big silly armor n shit? not the all-seeing phallus?

Well it takes place after the intro to FOTR when he lost the ring so he won't look like the big armor guy. Not sure exactly what he will look like, I don't think Tolkien ever described how he looked in his Necromancer state which is what he'll be in this film.
This is who is playing Sauron in the Hobbit films though:

did they really make that big-ass armor for a twenty second scene?
-
Prometheus took a big stinky dump on every other recent trailer, but this was still pretty good.
-
Where can I see Prometheus trailer?
-
It doesnt get posted until tomorrow. GAF had a bootleg cam link and you can see it with Dragon Tattoo.
-
Meh wont watch it in shit quality and spoil it.
Teaser looks nice.
-
nvm
-
The first one is the best.
I dont think there is much point reading those books as an adult for the first time.
-
smh at the people asking for the Prometheus link. I posted it in this thread you knobs! Don't be a gaffer. Read the damn thread :p

Cumberbatch? Holy moly, that'll be great. He was perfect in Sherlock.

Unless they removed it you didn't scroll down far enough. the full trailer is in there
Edit: Yup. My bad. I guess they got a c & d from Fox. But it was there when I posted it :p

I think he's Smaug too.
-
but did you see two towers or return more than once in the theater? thought so
-
Two Towers was my favourite of the three. Return of the King had some of the worst shit ever commited to screen but also some really good stuff.
-
atleast you developed taste by the time the 3rd film came out.
-
whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa? FOTR is the best one. It's damn near fucking perfect
-
I loved [and still do] all three movies. :patel
-
FotR owns. I saw that movie like 4 times in the theater
I love all three movies too, Rumbler!
-
I'm getting Star Wars prequel vibes brehs

Because The Hobbit has CG backgrounds and the LOTR movies didn't? Oh wait, they did, in Rivendell. Same as what's shown in The Hobbit trailer. Come on.
-
in the hobbit's defense, aren't they still filming as of right now with the film still being a year away from its release date? who knows if they'll even use the shots they've shown in the trailer given how everything from the editing to the cgi is in a preliminary state.
-
They're still filming right now, yes, and are expected to finish sometime this month.
-
Also the costume/makeup on the dwarfs looks pretty dumb. I read the book ages ago, I know it's a lighthearted novel compared to LOTR and I certainly don't want it turned into LOTR 2.0...I just hope we aren't going to get one badass dwarf (Thorin) and eleven Jar Jars
-
It's important to remember Jackson did the green screen in studio stuff first and has been shooting on location the past month or two now, I doubt many of the location material was ready for the teaser.

I doubt the Gandalf vs. the Necromancer stuff will be light-hearted. TheOneRing.Net did a shot by shot analysis and there is a ton of Dol Guldur stuff in the teaser, probably means we will see a ton of it in the movie.

Solo you better not be hyping me up for nothing.
