It's a company that sells a collection of what it sees as "important classic and contemporary films". They're known for generally high quality transfers as well as helping to standardize things like letterboxing, commentary, and bonus features.

Nothing to be ashamed about there, pal. Giant monster films are one of the pinnacles of art and achievement of this or any other generation.
fuck, I love those 90's Gamera films!

I watched the last of the 90's Gamera movies, it was actually really good. The 60's Gamera movies are utterly abysmal, though.

MAF how is your Godzilla obsession going these days? I would imagine you'd be all over Criterion Godzilla.
-
I will be, but i've been off godzilla for a few months here; im sure watching the criterion will get me into it again tho.

You know those weird star wars geeks who live and breathe it? Yep that's me and my brothers with Godzilla. Any giant moster movie good and bad is on my to watch list no matter what.
I love love love the "Showa" series of Godzilla movies. Basically the franchise from the original through Terror of MechaGodzilla. When they rebooted the franchise in the 80's...I just never could get into any of those films. All the films after the original series just lost the charm I loved about it. Couldn't get into any of them no many how many I tried to watch, will always love the original series though.

(http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51woPaL%2Bo0L._SL500_AA300_.jpg) -- this is the one I want on bluray; so bad. Its the badass anti-hero godzilla and mothra being all fuckawesome and even the human plot was great.
Against MechaGodzilla and Tokyo S.O.S. are good too but probably not criterion worthy
-
Thats the only one post-Showa series I really liked. Most of the modern ones feel to anime-ish compared to the just plain crazy originals.
I mean how is this NOT amazing?

speaking of, does anyone want my first press Gamera Blu-rays? They have 0 supplements, but look damn good. I upgraded to the new trilogy box set during December.
-
Godzilla Final Wars pretty amazing in terms of wtf lol value.
The Rebirth of Mothra movies are also something hilarious to watch

Oh wow I forgot about Final Wars. I liked that one a lot too. It reminded me a lot of the just plain wtf insanity of the 60's/70's ones. I guess I like more of the modern ones than I remembered.
