Demos are so 2006.
-
done
looks pretty good-very clean IQ,framerate is not so hot, shitty battle music
bresha ruins
npc characters,side-quests
battle system is mostly the same with some additions, flashy
paradigm shift paradigm shift paradigm shift...
you can pointlessly jump around now
-
Yes, the framerate hovers around 25fps for both versions. :[
At least 360 version isn't sub HD now.
-
I want this game so bad in my boypussy
-
my nicca
Why is there no PS3 demo yet? WTF Sony get a f-ing clue.
Playstation Store updates later today.
And what's up with the blood potion stuff?
-
Blood Damage just means you can't heal to your max HP. Similar to how fighting games do it like Tekken I think. You can heal it with an item or spell.

frame rate is pretty bad. moving around feels like you're under water. is it like that throughout the game or because of the rain pounding the frame rate?

Probably the entire game. Average fps is 25.

Best game of ten days, wooooooo
-
Played the demo for 2 hours. Really in depth.
-
Forgot I never beat FFXIII. I'm at Orphan's Cradle, can't remember why I didn't wrap it up. Doing that and then tackling the demo.

another himu disappointment incoming

another himu disappointment incoming
Well, it is a new year, we're due for a few.
-
I wasn't disappointed with any game I played last year. 8) I'm rarely disappointed with the games I buy. I have a sixth sense for good games. Hint: I didn't buy Zelda: SS. :P
-
15 fps, gross

Er, the encounters aren't random at all, and avoidable. In fact, the encounter system rapes 13's due to 13's limitation. You had no weapon swipe like you do in 13-2 which ensures pre-emptive battles, you just...run into them, with its wonky ass controls and shitty camera. Much more, the moogle clock adds tension to the thing. Sometimes monsters will appear, and suddenly leap towards you and you have a second to hit them with your sword.
The encounter system is one of the best improvements over 13.
Pro's:
- No more stupid paradigm shift animation, making paradigm shifting instant.
- Can save/load paradigms.
- Encounter system.
- Quests and mini quests for npc's.
- Towns, branches in paths, and actual forks in the road.
- npc's make the game feel less barren and it's nice to actually learn about the world of 13 without having to resort to a datalog. NPC's are interesting in that they actually do shit, like go sit down or actually react when a monster pops out.
- It's harder to 5 star battles now as far as I can tell.
- Monster hunting isn't SMT or anything but it's fun and adds to the game's depth.
- You don't have to play for 20 fucking hours to customize your guys, and anyone can learn any paradigm, adding a sense of customization and unique-ness to the Sarah and Noel. All of the game's features were featured in this games demo except time travel. If this were 13, it'd take 30 hours to show off all this crap.
- Crystarium in general is much better than 13's.
- Better image quality on 360.
- There seems to be a lot of content. I spent 2-3 hours on this one demo area alone and it was a pretty small-sized area.
- Jesus Christ, the music.
Cons:
- Lower frame rate.
-
15 fps, gross
:donotwantdog
This is what happens when Wada enforces "2 year dev cycles"
What people didn't realize is SE games take 5 years to come out because the last 3 years are spent optimizing!
-
Er, the encounters aren't random at all, and avoidable.
They are not visible on map like in FF12 and FF13, they pop out of thin air thus they are random (random time, random place on map).
Case closed.
They're not really random. They generally pop up in the same area.
A random encounter is traditionally an encounter that automatically sends you into battle. XIII-2 does not have random encounters.
-
[lots of himuro jizzing]
Hair also looks worse. PS3 hair now looks like ugly dithered X360 hair because instead of making the X360 version better they simply made the PS3 version look worse to match the two versions.
-
I think it looks better on 360 compared to 360's version of 13, maybe it's because of the location. Either way, it's a really good looking game.
-
That fact also doesn't mean shit. Lots of rpgs do that. Who cares if the actual monsters you fight aren't fixed? No one cares about fighting random monsters, they care about being suddenly thrust into battle every 5 seconds without any input.
Even if the monster encounters themselves are random, they're still visible encounters.
The encounter system isn't FFXII-level, any how, but it's close.
-
Didnt play the demo cuz I'm awesome
-
aka your account was hacked and is now locked :lol
-
Weird cuz I'm on right now. Owned...
-
Downloading the demo, SO fucking jazzed.
-
Weird cuz I'm on right now. Owned...
they still haven't locked your account?
-
I told them to unlock it cause I told them FF13-2 was coming out and they started giving their cocks indian rug burns cause they knew the game was gonna be fucking awesome
-
:rock
-
damn, I'm pretty excited to play this. I liked FFXIII, but hated the postgame. Will rage if I'm just fighting stupid fucking giant turtles all the time again
-

There's only all of one turtle in the game, and you can get gil really easily.
-
Being able to have monsters in your party is kinda cool, and the promo video at the end of the demo milks this servicey idea by showing you having a crew with a cactaur, chocobo, and a fuckin' tonberry. Still the same do-nothingy battle system though. I give it a meh out of 5. Will buy for $20 if there's absolutely nothing else interesting around.
-
Every FF battle system must be do-nothingy, then.
-
Anyone actually ride a chocobo?
-
You should be able to make an all Tonberry party. Riding Chocobos.
-
all you have to do is gas em up with greens then let em go
:rock
-
Bad game plays bad, runs bad, more at 11
-
maf, this isn't the dragon age 2 thread. oh wait, you like that one.
-
At the final boss (first form) in XIII. Damn thing keeps casting Progenitorial Wraith on me every single time, which automatically kills the party lead. I switch over to a paradigm with sentinel, but it's not helping... argh. Any suggestions? Just bad luck?
-
You gotta get void death accessories iirc
-
I sure hope you can buy them and upgrade, cause I don't feel like backtracking and grindin. Argh.
-
Play real RPGz like Resonance of Fate, where you can make guns with guns on them.
-
I sure hope you can buy them and upgrade, cause I don't feel like backtracking and grindin. Argh.
iirc you do. that's what i did. I just went back to the final dungeon proper, fought a bit and bought it. doesn't stop the final boss from being cheap as fuck though.
-
I sure hope you can buy them and upgrade, cause I don't feel like backtracking and grindin. Argh.
You don't need any void death accessories. I didn't have any and neither did most people who beat the game. Just keep trying and hope you don't get really bad luck too often. It's not a long fight if you have good luck.
-
The boss uses a death spell very frequently though
-
Ten rounds against Orphan, and it ALWAYS casts that stupid PW death spell. Sometimes right before I was about to kill it, and sometimes at the beginning of the battle.
You can buy it in one of the stores, I'll try that later tonight.
-
i've had a lot of fun with the final boss, shame the post-game battles aren't as good
there is also that stupid achievement where you have to upgrade everything that require you a bajillion of zil and therefore to kill all those turtles, only FF13 achievement i didn't get :yuck
does FF13-2 still feature the same upgrade system?
-
13-2 features traditional mercantile weapon/accessories system. You just buy new weapons. Thank god.
-
Oh, that sounds good. Upgrade system in XIII was so lolz
-
The Death spell means you're taking too long. I believe regular bosses can even cast Doom on you if you take forever.
-
second form uses a death spell
-
13-2 features traditional mercantile weapon/accessories system. You just buy new weapons. Thank god.
You still need components to make some weapons, though.
-
The Death spell means you're taking too long. I believe regular bosses can even cast Doom on you if you take forever.
I know Barthandelus will cast Doom on you if you take more than 20 minutes to defeat him, but this is just a random spell that has been cast on me at the beginning as well as near the end of a fight with Orphan. Totally random.
-
Ps the death ward accessories aren't even 100% so even if you're hit you may end up dying.
-
Demo is awesome, you even get to level up with the Crystarium, buy and equip items/accessories, level up monsters, take on 3 small sidequests... can't wait for this game to come out, it's gonna kick ass! :rock
-
Ps the death ward accessories aren't even 100% so even if you're hit you may end up dying.
I know, but I've got the Gil to spend. Worth a shot.
-
I remember getting death spell cast on my character 1st attack a few times. I don't remember the boss much (it's been a while) but I remember it was a pretty bad design gameplay-wise. Very cheap and reliant on luck unless you are overpowered.
-
Frame rate isn't as bad as I thought it'd be after hearing the complaints, even in the few cut-scenes.
But what's this about 15fps average? when/where does that take place?
-
Probably in a few areas. The framerate for the game as a whole is avg 25fps with lows into the 18-20fps, and highs occasionally in the 30fps.
-
Sub-20 is an icky icky range. If I had to dig deep to apologize and excuse it the same way I did for the Soul series, I'd say that as long as it doesn't fluctuate rapidly, I might be able to stomach it.
The only thing I'm really worried about is the difficulty of this game; I heard it was piss easy. The story on the other hand sounds so ridiculously bad, it might be good.
-
Well, it's better than the framerate in DS because it's turn-based so at least it doesn't affect gameplay like in DS.
-
65% Seraphs Crown did the trick. Now on Orphan form 2. :rock
-
I beat FFXIII last night and tried the XIII-2 demo. WOW, the framerate is really jarring. Everything looks worse than XIII.
-
The art design is 10000 x better tho
-
Himu borrowing a page from the book of Ninthungus :yuck
-
art design > graphic fidelity
Despite being a graphic powerhouse, FF13 is very boring to look at.
-
Himuro smoking again.
XIII has lots of great art design. The Ice Sea, The ch.7 city, the dead city on Pulse, Cocoon in ch.13; very nice looking locations to run through in a boring corridor fashion.
XIII-2's art design is pretty similar from what I've seen. No real changes, just worse graphics.
-
They bore me. The few I'll give points to are Sunleth Waterscape, the crystal lake, and pulse.
13-2 actually has weather. You see that rain in the demo? That gives off a sense of atmosphere 13 never had.
-
Only a few more weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeks

XIII-2 has weather effects and the city of Academia, which trumps pretty much every locale in XIII.
-
The first part of the XIII-2 demo was ugly tunnels and bridges and shit. Still pysched for it in a couple weeks, though.
-
what's the name of the city with the chocobo's? that one was awesome

art design > graphic fidelity
Despite being a graphic powerhouse, FF13 is very boring to look at.
Please don't act dumb, Himu.
FF13 has superb looking locales:
Lake Bresha
Palumpolum (1st place)
Nautilus
The Palamecia
Gran Pulse - Taejin's Tower (3rd place)
Oerba Village (2nd place)
Eden
Note that I did not include Sunleth Waterscape in there cause it is ugly and boring.
most of those places are boring as hell. 13-2 art design stomps it and actually feels like a consistent world. You also brought up locales. What about the fashion? It's loose and random. What about the culture and how locales look? They look pretty standard. Compared to say, VIII, IX, or X, XIII is very, very boring to look at. Graphic fidelity doesn't make up for lack of imagination.
-

They're boring because of the gameplay in them. Not the art imo.

the only part of FF13-2 that's probably worthwhile... still blows no candle to the original :smug

-
aside from the fantastic gameplay, fantastic music, beautiful world design, actually good characters, actually good villain...
also XIII-2 chocobo racing is actually racing not just mashing buttons like in FFVII.
-
You guys keep talking about locales as if locales are the only that makes up art design.
Compare FFX's tribal clothing to FFXIII's random mishmash of mishmash.
Or the lush detail of FFXII's vistas and city design to FFXIII's Palompolum.
Being pretty technically sound does not make it visually interesting by itself. I mean, it looks neat, even pretty great, but it feels so uninspired and I expect better from Final Fantasy.
13-2 seems to hit the mark and has some consistency to the overall world and art design.

That song owns but I don't remember that place at all? Oh wow, it's the ice town? Is it really a town?
It's a holy place next to Mt. Gulug. It's the best ice town in the series.
anyway, FFXIII-2

I love the bit around 2:30 where the song distorts Origa's vocals.

best towns:
Narshe
Lindblum
Derling City
Ranabstre

Am I on crack or is that town you visit in the demo pretty blah
-
fuck zozo for having no save points and a half hour cutscene at the end
-
Am I on crack or is that town you visit in the demo pretty blah
Yes, you're on crack.
-
Besha(?) Ruins is pretty blah, yeah. Every preview and video of the game involved the same area and boss fight, so the locale did nothing for me.
I've tried the demo again today, still excited for the game, but I realized how the camera really exposes the frame-rate's choppiness. By the time I was done, I was sick of it. I also feel the monster collecting aspect will get boring and repetitive quickly, if the uselessness of 75% of the monsters in the demo is indicative of anything.
-
...I also feel the monster collecting aspect will get boring and repetitive quickly, if the uselessness of 75% of the monsters in the demo is indicative of anything.
There's an SMT-lite system that allows you to "infuse" the crummy monsters into your frontline ones and transfer an attribute or ability.
-
Supposedly you can get a SEN monster in the demo: the second kind of robot (not Hoplite). Extremely rare crystal drop, though.
Maybe normal Atlas could be defeated then with a very high level party?
You'd have to grind for quite a long time to defeat Atlas that way. It takes like 500,000 CP to max each role, and even just maxing one Role out won't give you enough HP to survive.
