Paula Deen — the queen of high-calorie, Southern cooking — is about to come clean and confess that she can’t eat her own dishes anymore because she has diabetes.

The Georgia-born chef — a Food Network star who has written five best-selling cookbooks — has been trying to keep her condition a secret, even after the National Enquirer reported in April that she has Type 2 diabetes, which is often associated with fatty foods and obesity.

Sources say Deen, 64, who never addressed the diabetes question, has worked out a multimillion-dollar deal to be the spokeswoman for a pharmaceutical company and endorse the drug she is taking.

Novartis, the drug company she is said to be working for, declined to respond to Flash’s questions, as did Deen’s agent and Deen herself.

“Paula Deen is going to have to reposition herself now that she has diabetes,” said one source. “She’s going to have to start cooking healthier recipes. She can’t keep pushing mac and cheese and deep-fried Twinkies when she is hawking a diabetes drug.”
Quote
Last August, “No Reservations” host Anthony Bourdain called Deen “the worst, most dangerous person to America” and said she should “think twice before telling an already obese nation that it’s OK to eat food that is killing us.”

Deen replied, “You know, not everybody can afford to pay $58 for prime rib or $650 for a bottle of wine. My friends and I cook for regular families who worry about feeding their kids and paying the bills ... It wasn’t that long ago that I was struggling to feed my family, too.”

Dang y'all!

She's a crazy woman, which makes her show completely entertaining. "I was the only mom in town teaching her 14 year old boys how to rub that meat!" But any Paula Deen recipe I've ever used, I reduced the butter by at least one stick. So unnecessary (although delicious I'm sure).

Her son is dating April from Eastbound and Down. :drool

you can eat anything you want, the problem isn't the food, it's eating that food by the bucketful, just practice some fucking self-restraint and you don't have to deny yourself the occasional hot-buttered bacon cornbread

Must be hard down south though. So much good food godamn. Texas isn't down south technically but fuck it, lemme slang this anyway. When I visited family down there I ate enough to gain 5 pounds if not more. Craw fish, bbq, fried fish, frog legs (which taste exactly like chicken lol), pies, cakes, shrimp, etc. They'd eat a huge meal then start snacking on pork rinds called "cracklings" that looked/felt like peanut brittle due to the fat, and tasted like heaven. oh god

Paula Deen: Homecooked terrorism. And good news, now she can make money by selling new diets to those who listened to her dumbshit stuff in the first place!

I don't think Rachael Ray is that bad. Sure, she is a bubbly idiot who doesn't know how to cook, but I don't think she is damaging America and my soul like Deen and Fieri.

Edit: nevermind.

Redemption for Rachael Ray

God I miss when she was younger and skinnier.  I'd still (INCOMING FOOD JOKE) like to pork her, but it could be so much better.

As for Paula Deen, it's no big surprise that her and Wilford Brimley are that much closer to being identical twins.  I love the way her food tastes, but I am also aware that it's killing me with every bite.

give me a fucking break with all the "killing america" pussy handwringing

if you don't like her shit, don't cook it or eat it, it is pretty much that simple

anyone who takes life or health advice from a television cook is a goddamned moron, anyway

i think i have seen approximately two episodes of her various shows, and don't much care for her downhome "charm" (i know enough southern women who wear that mask in public to know it's a thin veneer of bullshit) so i don't really have a "side" here, but bourdain's full of shit - anyone sucking down enough cigarettes per day to develop snappers as brown as his pretty much forfeits their right to sermonize about healthy lifestyles

Some of Paula Deans recipes are absolutely hilarious.  Deep fried stuffing on a stick anyone? (http://www.pauladeen.com/recipes/recipe_view/deep_fried_stuffing_on_a_stick/)

That shit is way worse than butter.  Transfats galore.  It's not that butter that gave her diabetes.

Shit's terrible, though.  Guys, for the love of God, use real butter.  Look at the French, the eat gobs of eat, comparatively speaking and don't suffer the same health problems as we do.

Plus, I can't imagine cooking with the stuff.  I'll give you pass if all you is spread it on toast, even though butter is superior there as well.

Greenman, mashed potatoes are mega easy to make and it'll be much better than some convenience based crap.

Country Crock is great.

They have a line of mashed potatoes that are pretty damn good if you don't have time to make them by hand. Better than that boxed shit.

I don't believe for a second that you lack the time to make mashed potatoes.

I make fun of her and guy but at the end of the day we're the ones responsible for what goes in our mouth or kids mouths. Portion control and adapting to changes in level of activity are all that's needed assuming you don't have a legit medical condition.
