What plans should I sign up for? There are so many but most of them are fucking stupid like like insurance and accident on the job insurance...what the fuck I'm at my desk all day.
So just health and dental? More? What do you guys say?
-
Good health insurance = ownage. You can just go get your checkups n shit. Same for dental and whatever. Those two are the KEY benefit packages, and the drain on your check is OH SO TINY.
I went to the clinic the other day and it was 30 bux for the visit and the lab tests. They also figured out the bulk of my health problem and hell I needed a check up anyway. 11 years is a long time without a doctor visit.
-
ok so the life insurance and all that extra shit is just fluff right?
Medical and dental?
-
sign up for all of them dude, it's better safe than sorry.

Think ahead. 401k or whatever retirement plans they might offer. Life insurance if you have a family or you want someone taken care of. Generally not worth it though IMO.
Medical and Dental FTW though!
-
I just signed up for medical dental and vision: 84 dollars per pay peroid :-\ oh well it's worth it I suppose.
now the 401k, and there goes more of my pay check!
-
all this is pre-tax though. you probably would've broke even if you made all that money, but got taxed on it.
-
Chris: did you get general medical coverage? The amount they take out is pretty small, why's it 84 bux. I think thats more than me and I make a fair bit.
-
Medical
Vision
Dental
-
vision is usually meh, but glasses can cost. I forked out 500 for mine in cash cause I wasnt covered :(
-
I have 20/20 :\ I just felt as it's like a good to have thing
-
Take Health (maximum available), dental and life, no one wants to pay to bury you. Heh.
-
eh you get to reapply for every step stone you take in the company - plus I'm not going to ever die so theere's not point to life insurance.
-
You don't need life insurance unless you have a wife or children. Or unless your parents want to profit on your untimely demise.
-edit I just got benefits, health/dental/vision for about $14 a week. I'm not sure how good the coverage is, but I'll drop vision next year after I get new glasses :)
-
oh fuck you dude 14 dollars?
Well I applied for the best one of each so maybe that's why :-\ Blue Cross Blue Shield?
-
Well it isnt a bad idea to ask the HR person at your job for help :p
-
um I do work in HR :(

Yeah but I heard from other employees that the coverage sucks. It should be fine for my needs, but I'm positive it's just basic shit. I don't really know a lot about benefits, I'm going to print off the info and have my dad go over it with me.
-
um I do work in HR :(
Huh.
-
I'm going to eventually be working with the Human Resources department when all my training is done.
-
Just ask them youre you'll lock yourself into something boneriffic.
-
one cool thing about where I live is you can leech off your parents health coverage till you're 30.
-
wait what? Aren't you in the US Bobby?
I get kicked off my moms the DAY I turn 21.
-
I live in new jersey.
It's only for health though, no dental or vision.
-
I get health insurance from my job, but I didn't sign up for it because I thought I was covered by my parents'
But I might have gotten dropped from it when I turned 18, not sure about that

It is a new law, which went into effect last May.
These are the only things that can disqualify you,
"the individual must be (1) unmarried and have no dependents of their own, (2) a resident of New Jersey or a full time student, (3) not covered under another group health plan or receiving Social Security Benefits, and (4) "aged-out" (exceeds the maximum age limit for dependent children) under the terms of a parent's health benefits plan. The individual is not required to provide proof of insurability nor do they have to prove that they have exhausted COBRA coverage. The individual does not have to be financially dependent on the parent."

:o

I have full medical, dental and vision coverage, along with a nice retirement plan and 403b (similar to a 401k).
My salary might not be a lot compared to others ($41,000/year), but the benefits of working in public education are awesome.
-
Yeah I have med, prescription, dental, life, and vision and I don't have to pay anything for any... just copays.
I get a 401k thing after a year... they match some part of it so I'll probably do it. Free monies.

:o That could be really bad if something happens! I hope you find out soon.
I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield through my dad's work and it's always been good. I never had any serious medical problems but my brother did and everything's paid for.
