Is actually decent?

Pro-tip: Shouta likes Suikoden IV
-
Playable Jeane, what's not to like?
-
Jeane has been a battle character for years.
-
She started as a battle character in 4.
You just failed the Suiko test.
-
Suikoden 4 came out in 2005. It is 2012. Hence, years.

Shouta is a big Suikoden fan, he thought Teirkries was a great game. So take that as you will.
-
Considering how much he likes IV I don't trust him.
-
And only one game came after 4 with a playable Jeane.
Besides, Suikoden 5 wasn't anything special. I don't see it above and beyond Suikoden 4 so Shouta liking it isn't all that weird.
At least the art was good (Suikoden 1 artist).
EDIT: Teirkries was actually good, gameplay-wise.
-
Suikoden V was fantastic.
Suikoden IV is average. That's a pretty big gap in quality.
-
It's average. Another filler Suikoden title with poor optimization.
FUCK THAT LOADING.
-
I like Suikoden IV. Me and Shouta are bros on that.
I didn't play Teirkries more than like 30 mins, but it didn't seem Suikoden. Heard mixed things on it. But if MCD says it was good and Shouta says it was good, I'll take your word it was good.
So then it wouldn't be much of a surprise if the new PSP one was also at least "good".
Just throwing out some logic here. Even if it's a good game, I'm not interested in playing any Suikoden games that aren't canon.
-
Suikoden V has the best characterization in the series.
The most in-depth character recruiting.
The best main cast.
A really fun formation system.
Cool skill system though a step down from III.
Incredible music.
Awesome scenarios.
A fun war system.
Well written.
The only issues it has are mostly pacing, optimization (which wouldn't be as noticeable if they didn't have NOW LOADING every time you hit a black screen) and one-dimensional antagonists (for a Suikoden, this is the biggest sin you can make).
Shouta thinks IV is better than III. He can't be trusted.

Tierkries is a good jrpg.
it's not a good Suikoden, though. It's still better than IV.
-
>The best main cast.
AN OBNOXIOUS LOLI FOR A BODYGUARD SURE IS BEST
@bebpo, Teirkries is good but the whole world, the characters and so on aren't "Suikoden". It's like another game coated in a Suikoden formula AKA the battle system.
-
Suikoden II has Nanami. What is your point?
Suikoden V has the best main cast because almost every character is fleshed out. The game would use up almost half of its cast throughout the course of the story. I was really impressed by how it managed to do this without forgetting some characters existed and somehow, it didn't. You ended up with at least 40-50 characters involved in the main story by the end of the game.
The tradeoff is that this made the antagonists under developed.
-
Nanami is a true BRO.
Thanks to her we got one of the best scenes in Suikoden:

I TOOK HUNDREDS OF MEN IN MY LIFETIME, IT TOOK HUNDREDS TO KILL ME
:bow
-
tiekresis is awfull, whole plot feels like a bad animu, the games goes at an unbearable pace and every character looks like a distinguished mentally-challenged midget
suikoden v is decent but i don't think you would miss much by skipping it
-
Best part of Suikoden III:

Altho Geddoe was a real badass.
-
I liked the Indian girl that just wanted to drink soda pop all the time.
-
Shouta thought White Knight Chronicles was masterpiece. I wouldn't wanna be seen agreeing with that type of person.
-
Suikoden V was fantastic.
Suikoden IV is average. That's a pretty big gap in quality.
The fact that V was programed and designed by mongoloid monkeys prevent it from being fantastic, it was enjoyable though.
-
You act like IV was any better.
V's load times are better than IV's. They're just more frequent. IV also has random battles in towns, a slow ass ship that you use to navigate a world void of anything, and mundane 4 party battles.
-
IV had a better menu system, the graphics looked better, the camera in V was fucking terrible, I felt like I was watching some animu fegs running around from a 5fht floor and IV was my first :heart gonna go hug the game while himu continues to defend the wasted potential that was suiko V.

When you're caught between agreeing with shouta and agreeing with magoose, what to do?
Anyway, Shouta and I rarely line up on *anything*, so I'd say having me and Shouta agreeing on a game speaks volumes. It's a good ol' PS1 style JRPG, and that's why I like it.

Done and got the true ending, very short game overall, about 30 hours unless you want to stuff that isn't really needed like maxing Affection ratings for everyone, sub-jobs, teaching all the skills to everyone, etc. I did use a little help for finding the stars towards the end so time might be a little longer for folks that don't want to use guides and the such.
On a full 1-10 scale, I'd probably give this a 6 or 7, above average but not great.
It has a lot to like, I think the story is pretty good, the characters aren't bad, I like the setting as well.
From a gameplay perspective though, it's too easy, skills are are unevenly distributed throughout the game, the mentoring system/pseudo-job system could've been taken farther or done better.
Crafting and meals are kinda nice as is the pairing and damage bonus for combos as well but again, could've taken a bigger leap with it. The Trap dungeons for easy money and Battle challenges were welcome but not enough to make up for some of the other shortcomings.
I will probably type up something a little more in-depth later about it. However, I do think that the issue for forthcoming Suikoden games will be a matter of properly replicating the gameplay more than anything. As long as you aren't clinging to the 1-5 canon like a hungry hyena, I think Konami can deliver a decent story.
-
I have not seen one video that doesn't make this game look boring as fuck. Suikoden was never about the battle system, 3 and arguably 5 aside. That's why the battles were always quick and fast-paced and :rock This looks slow as fuck, without 3's depth.

WKC is fun in its own way- but its not setting the bar or anything
