So I already bitched about how Katamari Vita is a content-less money-grab Scamco experience with a story mode that lasts for approximately one hour before the credits roll.
But this takes the cake:
bebpo: OH MY GOD
bebpo: after you download the "free" Katamari DLC levels (there are 2 available now)
bebpo: you have to unlock them in-game with 10 RARE ITEMS each level
bebpo: I got about 1 in an entire game playthrough
bebpo: but
bebpo: you can BUY
bebpo: packs of FIVE of the rare items
bebpo: for $2.99 each
bebpo: from the DLC store
bebpo: OH MY GOD, SCAMCO HAS NO LIMITS
-
:rofl
-
When did scamco turn into a f2p company?
-
so you need 10 items to unlock both levels? 20 items?
-
a story mode that lasts for approximately one hour before the credits roll.
Sounds about right for a portable game.
It's about right for a $1 iPhone game, maybe.
-
so you need 10 items to unlock both levels? 20 items?
20.
Presumably, 10 for every new DLC level they put up.
-
So you replay the original levels to get some 1% rare item drop to unlock the "free" levels?
-
A new Katamari game that only lasts an hour is fine, but it shouldn't cost more than $5 if that's the case.
-
Welcome to Apple gaming
-

More like 15-20% drop, but yeah. Basically you'll need to grind for hours for each new 5 min DLC level. Or pay $6 each :|
-
You literally saved me $24,99 as I was *this* close of picking it up a few days ago. Thank you.
Now I'm left wondering if this is the best Namco could do given the time they had to develop the games for, or if this model and amount of content aren't far from what they planned all along. Will they ever approach the Vita differently in the future, I wonder.
-
Not that this should surprise anyone, but their iOS katamari is also a complete scam.
-
To be expected. Want to see some wallet rape by Scamco? Take a look at Ace Combat: Assault Horizon's DLC:
240 points for a skill, yes a skill
640 points for a single jet. They ass rape you twice on this one; once when you purchase it and again when you try to use it... The jet's only usable in freeroam mode

When I was growing up Namco was one of the "it" companies of gaming. I cant even pinpoint when they slid into such shittery, it's like I woke up in bizarro land oneday.
-
yeah, this was talked about prerelease. Namco is trying to learn from the freemium model in ios games. You either pay with your time or cash, and because they'd rather have your cash, they make earning it the free way unbearably tedious.
edit: totally didn't see Oscar's post saying basically the same thing
namco sux

Didn't Katamari stop being cool about 5 yrs ago? Scamo must figure that you must be willing to pay any price if you still enjoy this outdated crap.
-
This kind of bullshit sounds like a mandate from upper management to me. I fully expect other Japanese publishers to jump on board

MICROTRANSACTIONS, BITCHES

Namco has always sucked.
Tekken -> Virtua Fighter rip off
Ridge Racer -> Outrun/Daytona rip off
Time Crisis -> Virtua Cop rip off
I can go on and on.
Namco had their moments but this idea that Namco suddenly sucks is pretty lol.
Best Namco games:
Mr Driller
Galaga
Ridge Racer 4
-
Sky Kid
Mappy
Pacmania
Druaga
Rolling Thunder
Soul Edge
Time Crisis
They definitely had esteem at some point

Horse armor is an unbelievable value by today's DLC standards.

Actually for Japan, I blame Idolm@ster. It's the game that made Namco's eyes light up from all the $$$ flowing in. Selling pieces of clothes and accessories and songs for $3-15 each had some gamers spending $400 in DLC on a $60 game. Namco made insane cash.
Then they introduced it to Tales games. Selling dozens DLC costumes for $5 per costume, and accessories and items and xp/money.
Then they started putting it in all their other games. Gundam Musou 3 had like $30-50 worth of DLC characters and I'm sure One Piece Musou will have the same. Plus they're already selling these base games (Tales, Musou, etc....) at $80-100 for just the game itself (plus director's cuts later on).
I am DREADING the day they put DLC into Super Robot Wars. It's one of their big cash cows and heavily otaku based (which is the market that they can gouge hard). But until now none of the SRW games have been on a system that supports DLC. What DLC can you make for a story based single player SRPG? DLC maps, DLC units.... oh god I don't want to give them any more ideas; it's going to happen :(
Basically Namco have taken over a huge part of the Japanese market. Outside of Nintendo, SquareEnix, and maybe Sega, they have the rest of the biggest brands and so they're on a mission to destroy 20-30% of the market with rape rape prices if you want to play those games :( As bad as Capcom is, I don't think anyone would have wanted to see what Monster Hunter would've been like under Namco.
Horse armor is an unbelievable value by today's DLC standards.
hahaha.

Horse armor was only like $2, wasn't it? That's a steal.
-
Namco: Take this object, but beware it's cursed with a very short life.
Babpo: Oh, that's bad.
Namco: But it comes with two free DLC levels.
Bebpo: That's good.
Namco: The free levels are locked
Bebpo: That's bad.
Namco: But you can unlock each free level if you have ten rare items.
Bebpo: That's good.
Namco: The rare items are $2.99 per pack of five.
Bebpo: . . .
Namco: That's bad.
-
:lol

:o :lol
I could picture that whole conversation.
