Someone bring me up to speed, as I've been out of the loop: Is ME3 a turd?

That's what you all get for caring about gaming narratives in the first place.

Its an RPG spanning more than one game, its understandable someone cares a little about how it all turns out. It just seems like a lot of work to get a decent ending- and even when you do apparently it sucks so whatever. DA2, now this fukkkkk

people who've played me3:

is this better or worse than minerals in ME1 and planet scanning in ME2

its better than both but it's alot more pointless

Methodis is actually right.

It's better in the sense that its fast and quick. But why you are doing it on a motivation level is less engaging especially relative to the important role it can play for quests.

I actually kind of like scanning on the 360 version. on the pc version i hated it

scanning with a controller is much easier. i mean, it's not "fun" but not tedious like it is on pc either.
Title: Re: Hey Bioware- I know where you can shove your galactic readiness
Post by: MyNameIsMethodis on March 13, 2012, 02:06:12 AM
it has a white line in the scanning now so it tells you exactly where you go, it takes like 3 seconds hence why its pointless and a waste of time. But the PC version is fine imho

Most people found it incredibly tedious and annoying.

Me on the other hand. I just felt like I was mining planets for Dilithium which tapped into my star trek nerd boner. I actually felt happy when I found planets that had lots of that really rare ore. Plus I liked just kinda going around and draining planets and reading the descriptions of them.

Scanning in ME 3 doesn't really induce any feeling. Its fast but boring and feels kinda pointless.

Post by: MrAngryFace on March 13, 2012, 02:22:28 AM
iirc there was the white line when scanning in 2 as well- 3 just has way less scanning; a lot of my problems with the new stuff introduced in 3 is that its never very clear how these certain things you do affect what the fuck is going on- so as you move through the game you feel kinda fucked all the time whenever you look at the war map. I bet you feel all rockstar if you MP a lot but I didnt fucking sign up to play MP so fuck bioware.
Title: Re: Hey Bioware- I know where you can shove your galactic readiness
Post by: Himu on March 13, 2012, 02:25:16 AM
some planets have a line to tell you where to scan if it's a planet mission, but no, scanning typically does not have a hint.

I posted about this in the ME 3 thread but default readiness essentially halves your military strength. That green bar at the bottom of the screen is useless. Just make sure your Effective military strength value is >5k by the end whether you get there by co-op or doing quests and scanning.

It's an overly confusing mechanic that isn't explained well and shouldn't even be in the game.

Just wait a few months for Bioware to sell you the REAL ending for $20. "LOL SHEPHERD, U WER MIND-CONTROLLED BY THE REAPERS, NOW YOU GOTTA SAVE EARF FOR REALS!"

The one good thing that Bioware has given us is placing the disparity between us and games reviewers under the microscope again. Raising the bar of empty hyperbole seems to be a mandatory skill in reviewers these days.

And fuck I loath ME, the game, not the disease.

I suppose you can as long as you do just about every quest and scan nearly every system to 100%

That's not really the issue though. It's that doing that is boring and not a test of dedication or game skill or decision making but of your patience for doing some really boring stuff. The end game options shouldn't be tied to a poorly explained mechanic and boring side quests.

The only difference between the "worst" ending and the "best" ending:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
There's a very brief clip of someone in N7 armor surrounded by rubble taking a breath, with the implication that Shepard survived everything. Somehow.

They probably should have dumped the concept of "best" and "worst" endings to some degree and just crafted visually distinctive endings based on your actual choices. Of course that would have gotten rid of the whole war assets mechanics but I think that's a pretty poor mechanic in the first place. Conceptually cool. The implementation was bad. All the side quests are bad. Sort of the worst kind of padding. The N7 and mission quests are very good.

What's even dumber about "readiness" is that it slowly degrades over time.

So without spoiling anything, does this thing have your average distinguished mentally-challenged videogame story/narrative/ending, or does it take the distinguished mentally-challenged to the next level, i.e. so royally distinguished mentally-challenged you feel distinguished mentally-challenged for even playing along or giving EA/BW your money?

I mean does it have any redeemable qualities? You can use ME2 as your barometer.

ME2 ending is the Star Wars OT.

ME3 ending is the Star Wars PT.

It's not required that you've seen them to know that the Star Wars OT is awesome and the Star Wars PT is a shambling abomination dragged from the depths of Sheol and given the vague form of something familiar when actually something terrible and cruel lies underneath.

Is it more Phantom Menace or Revenge of the Sith?

Remember in The Phantom Menace when they started talking about Midoclorians and it slowly dawned on you that everything you knew at loved about Star Wars was systemically being ripped away and mercilessly crushed? That's the ME3 ending.

Shit, that bad? I guess I should sit this one out and wait for a price drop, or pirate it, then not play it.

Well, I was prepared and it still surprised me.  :-\

It really comes down to how invested you've become in the universe and the characters. If you can shrug all that off, you'll probably be fine.

It is worse than MGS4's ending, if only because MGS4 was consistent.

Im at 16 hours, but all this BAD ENDING talk is making me wanna just blahhhhhhhh

ME3 is still a pretty great game.

I dunno.  It didn't bother me, and I'm actually enjoying all the fan rage.
