Title: reddit.com
Post by: Momo on April 09, 2012, 01:57:42 PM
Made an account today and im lost. Is there any way to make this shit more user friendly? Also how does one display custom feeds, I really only want the three gaming sections and a general OT section with science, technology and whatever.

Click the edit button. DELETE EVERY DEFAULT SUB REDDIT.

Honestly, r/gaming sucks and is mostly meme of the week/month/year. When Skyrim came out it was unbearable.

Go with r/truegaming for discussion, r/gamernews for gaming news.

For science, I suggest going with r/science and r/askscience

I highly suggest the porn series of subreddit if you're into photography/art.

http://www.reddit.com/r/EarthPorn/

Earthporn has gorgeous photos of wonderful natural landscapes.

Much better than r/pics, which is just meme of the day claptrap.

Sadly  figured this out after posting in here.

Some absolute marketing bullshit going on in here, I seem to be losing "karma points" for calling this show out as terrible.

Of the default subreddits, you may want to keep r/gifs, r/askreddit, r/iama, and mayyyybe r/politics but r/worldnews is a better subreddit for political news anyhow.

I've been a casual reddit user for years but I pretty much only ever look at /r/programming and related subreddits. Everything else on the site is a cesspool AFAICT.

i was browsing r/all (which shows every subreddit feed) and saw someone in r/gaming post that they were an EA employee, and their xbl and bank account;etc got hacked and all this shit because some idiot thought he worked at bioware or something. So I said that they were all idiots over the EA bashing considering EA is one of the best publishers this generation and one of the few pubs willing to release risky, edgy big budget games. I get an instant -2.

reddit is really what you make of it. it totally depends on the subreddit. many are cesspools, but just as many are good places for discourse and information.

Yeah there seems to be a huge difference in level of discourse jumping from place to place. Will be sticking to the non 4chan level areas.

Reddit is fine once you filter out a lot of the annoying default sub-reddits. Unfortunately still a lot of group think that makes a lot of it redundant or pointless but that's probably the case with nearly every community on the internet.

Skidmark was the one who got me into Reddit awhile back. I was always familiar with it but never motivated to register until he mentioned how you can customize it.

I wish the front page would update like a forum by last post and not this karma system, it's annoying that the front page stays so relatively static all the time. Looks cool except for this karma bullshit

/r/atheism is the worst place on the internet.

Here I am visiting Carl Sagan's grave reading a copy of The God Delusion while telling everyone in shouting distance that Richard Dawkins is the best and God ain't real.

I don't care what anyone says, those dudes are more annoying than the misguided people that twist the bible to serve their shitty belief system.

Reddit is pretty great otherwise. It's me reddit birthday soon so I need to go find some cats to photograph.

r/atheism isn't that bad. I don't see how they're more annoying when you take in the fact that they mostly use it as a safe haven, hence the circlejerk. Where irl will you be able to say the things they say on r/atheism with hostility in America? Hence the circle jerk. A lot of the posts are fake, and sometimes very self absorbed, and there are too many fucking famous quote/facebook screenshots rather than discussing actual matters related to atheism and religion, but occasionally some good nuggets come from r/atheism.

This being a good example:

http://i.imgur.com/mpQA0.jpg

Not that I'm condoning the subreddit, or saying it's good. But the whole "r/atheism is a cesspool where atheists thump their chests" is hilarious given the circumstances, especially since those guy you said who twist the bible to serve their belief systems are the people who are in charge. Name one atheist politician in America or people who can say what the people in r/atheism joke about on a regular basis in real life without any sign of hostility.

That said, I read r/freethought and not r/atheism.

D&D's reddit thread is pretty bad

i'm not sure which is worse. SA's intense white guilt or reddit's pre-pubescent sense of entitlement
