Street Fighter x Tekken on Vita isn't just a port of the console versions. Speaking at its Captivate event in Rome, Capcom confirmed that the Vita version will include twelve new playable characters. While the characters will eventually come to PlayStation 3 as downloadable content, players who connect their PlayStation 3 with their Vita will be able to unlock them immediately.
Even better: Vita players will be able to fight against PS3 players. Capcom revealed that cross-platform fights will be supported over 3G or WiFi, though whether or not performance will be affected remains to be seen (Capcom demoed the feature in a simulated environment rather than real-time).
The Vita version of SFxT is still early in development, and its feature set hasn't quite been defined. For now, Capcom showed off touch controls specific to Vita. Players will be able to make more intuitive color customization choices and navigate touch-specific menus. Examples of Vita-specific controls include shaking the system to randomize color customization options and touch controls during fights. Other Vita features including Augmented Reality, digital compass and Near support are also planned, though details haven't been revealed.
Details of the Vita version come on the heels of Capcom's continued support for Street Fighter x Tekken on consoles. Capcom plans a mix of free and paid DLC and title updates in the future, including new gems, new costume colors and a new patch to fix sound issues. An upcoming fix is also in the works for the game's much-maligned Infinity Combo exploits, though a specific time frame hasn't been announced.
Street Fighter x Tekken on Vita doesn't have a release date yet. While you wait, be sure to check out everything we know about Street Fighter x Tekken.

nice, that kind of stuff and the "buy for ps3, get it for vita" PSN games are what they need to be focusing on to stand out from the handheld pack

I would've been all over this if it wasn't a Fall release. No seriously, Capcom is even late with the bread crumbs when it comes to Vita.

I don't mind waiting now that I know it's for them focusing on getting the cross-play working. That is fucking AWESOME.

I love the IDEA of cross play, but the ones I tried so far (Hustle Kings and Wipeout) have been rough. Fighting games obviously require a better implementation, so I'll keep an eye on it, but I'm not holding my breath for anything above semi-functional.

It's also necessary since the Vita online will be a wasteland.

There's plenty of people online in UMvC3 and BB. Even when the system was only out in Japan I found plenty of BB players...
...Marvel was a different story. :lol :'(

Somehow I find Dudley wearing his boxing gloves on a plane goofier than the characters walking around half-naked/shirtless in airports. :lol
