Interesting. I'm getting a little disconnect between the advanced technology and still using swords and bows.

I'm very excited for this even though I'm not a big fan of the Arkane's past output and no one has attempted to make a game as expansive as this in many years.

This is one of the few games I'm excited for.  From what I've read it's a Deus Ex style game.  The powers and acrobatics support your chosen play style (for me, exploring and sneaking).

You should probably temper your expectations with the reality that Harvey Smith was the lead designer on DX: Invisible War.

Hadn't seen any pics of this before.  Somehow missed this thread.

I like the cartoony art design.  Makes it stick out from generic FPS #25311

The awesome steampunk/Victorian setting is just icing in the cake.

Never heard of this game before now, but the trailer invokes thoughts of Bioshock, Half-Life and AC.

Which is to mean it looks totally awesome.

I want to be excited, but Arkane Studios itself has this pedigree:

Arx Fatalis (2002)
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (2006)
Arx Fatalis: Collector's Edition (2007)
BioShock 2 (2010) - design assistance

It's confirmed that you can play through the entire game without killing anyone--pure stealth.

Really excited for this one.  And it's a 2012 game! that's rare now.

Sound a lot more like Thief than it appeared early on, definitely a game I'm keeping my eye on.

It's out in October, so I should be able to get some hands-on impressions in August at QuakeCon.

Title: Re: Dishonored
Post by: cool breeze on June 29, 2012, 10:55:07 AM
It does.  I got around to watching the videos this morning.  Maybe it's just the E3 build, but I thought it was odd how the MC shoots his gun, cuts up some guards, and no one outside that room notices.  In general the stealth doesn't look very demanding.  The description of sword combat also sounds simplistic compared to Dark Messiah ("attack, block, or timed block to parry").  Again, could just be this version.  Minor quibbles for an otherwise great looking game.  I liked the 'pacifist' solution to the mission.

I'm excited about no-kill paths as well; they tend to be the more difficult and slower-paced choices, which is how I like to play.

The voice acting seems cheap and melodramatic, but considering the facial animation on the assassination target in the gory playthrough, it may not be out of place.

I really want this to not suck, but I'm still keeping my internal hype generator on low.

Have you ever played Dark Mesiah of Might and Magic? Best first-person kicking simulator ever made.

Nope, haven't played it, but I'll believe it if you say so.
