If it stays this way until Sunday I may go pick one up.
-
Why? So you can discover the hard way that the Sony exclusives we've been hyping are in fact trash? :(
-
Stoney's impressions of PS3 games:
"It is what it is."
-
Nailed it.
All PC and no spice.

You can get Batman AC or MK for free

I'd probably only buy it for a handful of games I want to play and since I'm not a big japan gaming guy it has less value for me. Looking at the exclusives list I would want to play
Journey
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (played part of it at my brothers). I guess I'd play the third even though I've heard its a big step down.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (played part of it at my brothers)
The ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection
Wipeout
Heavy Rain (watched a playthrough but would be cool to play it myself)
The infamous games aren't my thing. Same with God of War titles.
Kinda interested in Dust 514.
And that's it. I'd probably sell it off next year so I just have to ask myself if those are worth 200 bucks. I've had this urge before but every time I go to pull the trigger it seems like a waste for me and I don't.
-
This might be worth it if only for HotD Overkill.
But I don't get paid again until the 1st. :'( And I still need to get a 3DS.
-
the ps3 is better than the 360 in every imaginable way so why wouldnt you get one ???

The Pixeljunk games are worth checking out.
I'd recommend Malicious but you're not really into Japanese games and it's a Japanese 3rd person boss rush action game in the vein of Devil May Cry x Shinobi x ZoE
Demon Souls if you like/liked Dark Souls
Ratchet & Clank a Crack in Time is a nice action/platformer
Then there's the heavy Japanese stuff like Yakuza 3/4/Dead Souls, the jrpgs like Tales of Graces F, Atelier, Disgaea. Siren Blood Curse if you like survival horror.
Motorstorm/Killzone/Resistance are average franchises with some good entries for the curious. Littlebigplanet is apparently love/hate game.

valkyria chronicles

i dont know why u wouldnt get a ps3 unless ur a paedo

I dunno, you make it pretty tough to buy one with your posts!

thats sad if ur judging the basis of something in the material life on something in the intener

I suppose you can get a used copy of Uncharted 2 but all of the new ones I see these days are part of a box set with the original. That is why I never bit on that game - I'd have to buy the first one with it.
-
so... why not just buy the used version?
-
The first game is awesome also why is this a problem ???

MGS4? Heavy Rain? Good god man, stay the hell away from both unless you Gamefly 'em.
Uncharted 2 is all sorts of awesome tho. Uncharted 3.....ugh
-
I'd say give inFamous a chance. I didn't warm to it the first time I tried it, but when I got it for free during the whole "lol credit cardz" fiasco I gave it another shot and really enjoyed it. It gets more "Crackdowny" the more powers you unlock. Festival of Blood is a really decent PSN game, too. Still have to go back and play inFamous 2.
Uncharted 1 - didn't care for it
Uncharted 2 - a genuinely great game, had fun all the way through, would like to go back and play again someday
Uncharted 3 - ugh, a chore
I like the Resistance games I've played. The first is butt-ugly and obviously rushed for launch. I think I'm the only person on this forum who liked R2, to me it was a big stupid set piece SyFy channel movie, which is exactly what I was looking for. Haven't played R3 yet, but I've heard good comments (other than the campaign being really short).
LBP - Floaty jumping kills it for me, although I keep trying to like it with each new game in the series. Here's the thing, though - even with the shitty physics it's still a lot of fun to play with other people, everyone slapping each other around and just goofing off. If you're going to try it get LBP2, it improves a lot of gripes I had about the first one (except the jumping, but they pad around it by introducing new movement mechanics).
-
infamous 2 was such a doodoo after the first.
festival of blood was an ok distraction.
-
infamous 1 is fine but i thought it was pretty unspectacular. really the only great games on stoneys list are uncharted 2 and wipeout.
actually most of the other ones are pretty fucking bad
-
wow insane hyperbole from xbots in a thread dedicated to the PS3 whoduve thunk it ::) ::) ::)
-
I remembered hearing good things about Motorstorm Pacific Rift back in the day.
I think the PS3 is a pretty solid system and I can find about 30 or so games on it that I want and will eventually buy. One thing I don't like is that the few games I own are rapidly sucking up the hard drive space. I only own a few games but the hard drive is about a third full (160 GB HDD). At $199, I think it would be worth buying. A shame that the PS2 PSN area is deader than dead. I've always wanted to play some of the PS1 titles that are on PSN (For instance: I've never played FF9) so I may get those eventually.
-
Motorstorm Pacific Rift is pretty awesome. I haven't played it in quite awhile but I was really into it a couple of years ago. I eventually stopped playing because I hit a wall with the game's difficulty towards the last 1/4 of it. It just became too freakin' hard for me but overall the game's a huge step up from the first. Never played Apocalypse which seems kind of weird in hindsight given how much I liked Pacific Rift.
FF9 is the only FF game I can still get into besides FFIV. Worth the 10 bucks on PSN imo.
I wish they'd stop farting around and put up Suikoden II. Probably the only other PS1 game that I would be willing to buy off PSN.
-
I'll probably pick this up tomorrow. Is there a recent Hot Shots Golf for the PS3? I use to like that series back in the day.
-

There is a Hot Shots Golf 5 that came out about five years ago. I do know that game has a history of multi-gigabyte patches and updates.
-
There's also a Hot Shots Mini-Golf game that was weirdly only released on PSN in Hong Kong, and Japan.
-

HSG5 is great, but expect to leave the console on for 24 hours downloading and installing patches before you can play. They made it into an MMO and so it has MMO patching process.
-
It's an OK console. Nowhere near PS2 level of greatness but that's because of software, not hardware.
:rofl

No system has ever been as good as the PS2 and given how things are going down in the gaming industry these days, there probably never will.
-
I play my PS3 more than my 360 lately. Totally worth it at $199.
Ridge Racer 7 :bow2
Wipeout HD/Fury :bow2
Valkyria :bow2
Multiplat games tend to be worse, but there are some really good exclusives out there.
-
Valkyria is a cool game if you can get past/skip the cutscenes.
It's a little slow paced though having to watch the enemy take its turn. Feels like an old-school strategy game. #2 & #3 got rid of enemy turn watching, which is nice.

Lot of places in Tokyo dropping the price of PS3s as well - something is coming .....
PS3 Slimmer?

Nanse?

Nanse?
talking about Japan here, but Nanse is the follow up to Torne - it's a device for recording TV shows and encoding the resulting recording for Vita/PSP etc
Torne was largely pointless because it can't record anything other than Japanese terrestrial TV
That was stupid.
(watching paint dry > japanese tv) so Nanse now introduces the ability to record cable channels. This might well be a godsend as i can record late night soccer games and have them transfered to my vita so that i can watch the games on the walk to work in the morning (as long as i avoid the scores).
Ain't that the truth.
-
Apparently there was a market for Torne, IIRC Sony sold over 500k of those in Japan.

That may be, but it still seemed like massive oversight for it to be OTA only.

And yet my wife will watch all the variety shows and sit there laughing and laughing. I try to watch that stuff and can only go :|
Some of the gags are good, sure, but they have to fucking SET IT UP FOR THE AUDIENCE AND HAVE A NARRATOR EXPLAIN SHIT FIRST. :-\ And hey, want to know how you should respond? LET'S PUT UP A WINDOW OF RANDOM CELEBRITY FACE WATCHING THE VIDEO TOO!
-
And I went ahead and bit the bullet. Got the 320gb unit.
It came with Uncharted 3 and Batman which I have not use for since I beat it on 360 and own it on the PC.
Also picked up Uncharted 2, Ico Collection, and MGS 4.
I figured that will tide me over for awhile and I'll go pick up some of the others I want later. I should have gotten the latest MLB game since I haven't been able to play that series since the PS 2.
-
I have a bunch of PS3 games I didn't play because I never rebought it after it was stolen. This might make me do it.
-
Today is the last day of the deal in the us gamestop stores.

Although I don't have a headset.
-
Don't worry. No one on PSN does either.
-
I've got one, but I've never used it. So yeah, you're right.
-
Nobody actually does anything with people on PSN. Not even compare trophies. They're just... there
-
I compare trophies with all my friends.
I would compare trophies with you demi, if you accepted my friend request!
-
I compare trophies all the time, plus its fun to see what games people have played.
-
I hate that you have to wait for PSN to sync the trophies before you can view them.
Live does it so much better...comes right up.
-

PS+ autosynchs when you turn on the system, it's annoying that they made it an "exclusive feature."
-
I hate how loose the analog sticks are along with the mushy triggers. One thing I really like is that my headphones always had a very slight buzz from the console whenever I used them on the 360. On the PS3 that buzz is gone. Seems minor but it always annoyed me on the 360 especially when things got quiet.
-
get yourself a pair of these
http://www.gamestop.com/ps3/accessories/ps3-real-triggers-pdp/74516
they clip right over the regular "triggers" and make a world of difference
-
You get used to the controller differences. If you spend more time with PS3 than X360, you'll prefer the DS3 controls and vice versa. But this late in the generation that's probably unlikely. Been playing Dead Space 2 on the PC w/X360 controller and PS3 w/ DS3 and prefer the controls on PS3.
-
Why does a PS3 have to download something and then install it? Why isn't that just one process?
-
Because Sony software engineering is a disaster.
-
I compare trophies with all my friends.

I did. You'll be seeing me play BTTF, since GameFly sent it to me.
-
i sort of like the ps3 controller better for some games
i find it easier to switch weapons in red dead redemption on the ps3 controller, for instance

Good call with the 320 GB unit. I have the 160 GB unit and am shocked at how the hard drive is filling up. In hindsight, I would have bought a 320 GB unit.

I heard it has pretty bad load times. Otherwise I might've given it a try.

How the heck are you at trophy level 11 already? I thought you just got your PS3 in the last 6 months or so?
-
my friend is at like level 19 and I am at level 7
I have more games and have completed more games than them.
I generally laugh when I look at their lists and see shit like Terminator Salvation - 100%

Modnation is fun, but I suggest waiting out for LBP Karting. It's from the same studio, and it seems they're really trying to fix some of Modnation's problems (long load times, features missing compared to Mario Kart, etc.).

I got it on Black Friday like 2 years ago. When Walmart and other stores were giving out $100 gift cards. I know it was 2 years ago because I got my iPod Touch last year.

Stoney are you going to try HOME?

This still exists?

You know what, just to further procrastinate a paper, I'm going to answer that question for you, T EXP.

You know what, just to further procrastinate a paper, I'm going to answer that question for you, T EXP.
Looks like it still exists and just got a new update:
The current version of Home is v1.65 released on April 25, 2012. The update includes a new simplified Menu Screen replacing the Menu Pad, Furniture slot memory adjustments and enhanced visual display of available memory use, a new Voice Chat system replacing the personal call function, alerts are now integrated better, shopping right from the Wardrobe, cross game invite system has been expanded, and improved stability of real time games.[2]

I don't think I've ever used PlayStation Home, but I'm happy it exists. It'll eventually, hopefully, maybe, one day give Granzella enough money to buy Disaster Report 4, and Bumpy Trot/Steambot Chronicles 2 from Irem.
-
It's kinda of busy and different from I remember. Still terribly though, everything is still slow and clunky. Characters look as dead as they did day 1.
And you can tell almost everyone is a creeper; people positioning themselves suggestively by exploiting the poor hit detection lol. But it's still amazing in a way, i.e. who are these people? why do they still hang around here when all they do is stand still and dance?!
Edit: The GAF "lobby" had a few people too.
Edit2: deleted.
-
Stoney are you going to try HOME?
You couldn't pay me enough to try that shit. :)
For what its worth I'm enjoying the PS 3. I probably shouldn't have bought it honestly as I doubt I'm going to get full value out of it in a year but who cares I guess. I've enjoyed what I played so far.
Playing through Uncharted 2 right now and quite enjoying it. I downloaded MAG just to try it out and man that is a but ugly game. I didn't really bother to put much time in it as the player counts were pretty low for a game that requires so many people. I've tried Killzone 3 mp for like 5 minutes. It looks nice but it was taking me awhile to get use to the controls so I said I would come back to it. And I beat Journey which I liked. Played about 5 minutes of the first episode of Siren Blood Curse just to see it and it seemed cool enough. I'll get back to it after I beat the two uncharted games. Tried Shadow of the Colossus and the shitty camera turned me off although I'll get back to that too.
As for the PS 3 games I still want to get from my early list in the thread, I'll probably add God of War 3. I don't really like those kind of games but if you're in Disney Land, you should probably ride Space Mountain whether you like it or not. Also I'll get the baseball game. Have no interest in Star Hawk. The beta footage looked lame to me.

Get Wipeout and Valkyria Chronicles... best games on the platform. Also the best versions of FFXIII and XIII-2 if you haven't played them yet (though XIII is mediocre, XIII-2 is great).
