Nope. No thanks, I played Black Ops (the only CoD I ever played)  had enough of this forever.

Black Ops SP was sogood.gif. Gimme more, Treyarch!

No, it was one of the shittiest campaigns in all of forever. Stupid Borys.

Based on past track record, the mp will be better and more balanced than the infinity ward game but the campaign will be weaker. Although I like that Treyarch aims to stick a better story in their games.

Looking forward to the MP. MW 3 was okay but I despised the maps and I'm already kind of over it. I just kinda don't like the way they balance their mp. I think treyarch does a good job of slowing the game down a bit and actively thinking about the balance stuff more.

Yeah, I actually thought the concept behind it was more interesting and fun than probably any other cod campaign.

the difference between treyarch and infinity ward (well, MW onward) is that treyarch realizes playing as richard nixon defending the pentagon from an undead nazi invasion is goofy fun, while infinity ward acts like they're above that kind of shit as they're simultaneously awarding you a pot-themed achievement for defending a burger king

I like the near future setting and I like Treyarch. It's all good.

The trailer airs tonight during the playoffs.

I trust Treyarch more than fake IW at this point. Although there is some good stuff in MW 3 they need to steal like support streaks.

How futuristic is this? like GRAW or Battlefield 2142 mechs and lasers?

I thought Black Ops was he worst CoD campaign but multiplayer was really good.  The wager matches were awesome.

I doubt it would be as far ahead as 2142. They most likely still want it to be relatable to normal people. We'll know tonight anyway after the trailer airs.

Graphics look terrible in those screenshots.  Low-res textures a plenty.

I do think Call of Duty Mechwarrior is a good thing, though.  Would be cool if it had space missions.  I want to stop terrorists on the ISS.

I'm reading the write up: http://www.giantbomb.com/news/lets-talk-about-the-future-of-call-of-duty/4120/

So a chunk of the game is 1980s and follows the Black Ops (1) characters.  The rest is 2025 and you're the son of Alex Mason (the guy from avatar, I think).  The horses are from Afghanistan in 1980s.

Campaign actually sounds pretty cool.  And it has stuff like ghost squad!

Quote
That part is also being addressed in a few ways, which means that Black Ops II will have a branching campaign with multiple outcomes--or at least varying shades of a similar outcome. It's hard to get a read on how different things will actually be in the final game. Some of these changes are extremely simple--for example, the Los Angeles mission has two on-screen icons at one point, allowing you to either rappel down from a broken freeway to help cover the President as she makes her way through an increasingly-hot battlefield or you can choose to stay up on the freeway and snipe as the rest of your crew covers her escape.

It's hard to judge any mp trailer because they are all about spectacle.

I can say that I thought MW 3 was the worst mp of all the cod games. The weapon damage was too high which encouraged a great deal of camping and lack of movement. You need to reward and design toward aggression in a cod game mp mode rather than the camping for killstreaks mentality that has damaged a lot of the cod games after cod 4.  I see some stuff to combat that like the x-ray scope and such but we'll see.

I think  Treyarch is far better than IW at this point so hopefully they take those lessons to heart.

http://www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/8/14/3230713/call-of-duty-black-ops-2-esports-shoutcasting-league-play

Quote
Treyarch has scrubbed "absolutes" from perk design, Vonderhaar said, the hard and fast rules that make perks more difficult to balance. As an example, he detailed changes to the perk "Ghost" from the first Black Ops. Ghost's previous iteration made players undetectable by UAVs, infrared sensors, and sentries. In Black Ops 2, Ghost's benefits only apply while players are moving, a design change that hopes to prevent the perk from being exploited by campers.

Thank fucking god at the bolded. It's about time they started rewarding aggression and not passive play.

Quote
With Black Ops 2 Treyarch is embracing e-sports to a greater extent than any Call of Duty game. "We think there is a tremendous opportunity here to bring e-sports to the masses, and we think Call of Duty is the game to do it," Vonderhaar said.

Treyarch has introduced League Play, a skill-based matchmaking system that sorts players into divisions. It is hoped it will mean players of all skill levels can get something out of the game, traditionally inhospitable to newcomers. To rank up into a division, you'll need to win and win consistently, Vonderhaar said.

Complimenting this is Codcasting, a new system that lets shoutcasters "put a show together". Shoutcasters have a number of viewing options they can switch between, and more information is displayed in the UI, including the score panel and a large name plate on the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. Feeds include an overhead map view and a picture in picture view, which shows the action on the left and player information on the right. Shoutcasters can also tune in to the players themselves, listening to communication during a match.

But perhaps the most exciting new e-sports related feature is Live Streaming. This work-in progress system is designed to allow players to stream their games from within the game itself with the press of a single button. Vonderhaar showed a live game running on multiple iPads, suggesting we'll be able to watch matches from multiple devices.

There is little information on Live Streaming at present. There is room for players to use a USB camera to show themselves picture in picture. "You're going to need some decent upstream bandwidth," Vonderhaar added. "You do not need a high end PC. You do not need complex streaming software and hardware." More information will be revealed closer to launch.

I've bought and played all of them except WAW and in retrospect COD 4, and Black Ops are the good ones. Not that both of them don't have their annoying elements but MW 2 and MW 3 over-focused on the wrong elements in their mp.

Hopefully BO 2 can be added to that list.

Agreed- I really regret selling off Black Ops when Modern Warfare 3 came out; keep noticing that people on my friends list have been playing it instead of MW3, too.  Might just go trade MW3 in for BLOPS.

I've switched back to Black Ops for my cod fix instead of MW 3 which I just can't tolerate outside of that Chaos Mode. I've noticed the population has increased for it recently also from back when I stopped playing it. Like I said its got its own flaws but I can tolerate those flaws more than the MW 3 flaws. Also it has the wager matches which are still incredibly fun.

That's surprising since I remember people being disappointed by Black Ops after MW2.  I assumed the general audience preferred the madness and speed of those games.

Yeah.  Treyarch understands how to make a quality multiplayer game.  What's happening with BO2 sounds neat and I'm considering it after skipping MW3 entirely.  Well, except for a Steam free weekend, where it seemed like a more chaotic MW2.  I think Infinity Ward (don't know about MW3) makes better campaigns and bonus modes.  Couldn't get into zombies, but arcade from CoD4 and spec ops in MW2 are pretty fun.

Are wager matches still in Black Ops 2? those were all I used to play before I stopped.  Always played them for fun; never for points.

I think you have two camps. There are people who enjoy the "craziness" of the infinity ward games with stuff like MOAB's and nukes and easy quickscoping and stuff like that. The Treyarch games are generally slightly slower pacer and more balanced but some people don't care about balanced. They just want to rip shit up. I'm not part of that camp but I know some people who are.

The wager matches are supposed to be coming back although I don't think the currency system is so they may not be called Wager matches. I think they are waiting to show off that stuff along with the zombie stuff later.

And yeah I played wager matches all the time. They were the perfect thing to play when the normal modes were pissing me off. They were chaotic and fun and not super serious which is a good change of pace and great to play with friends.

Yeah same here, especially after the lackluster MW3. I really liked MW, and Blops was an interesting departure for the CoD franchise that really worked. Granted stretching the story from W@W into Blops was the strangest damn thing ever, it certainly had some charm to it. It might also have worked cause I love the cold war setting and alternate history.

Only thing I don't like is the futuristic setting, as long as they don't over do it with that stuff it should be fine. I'm still not convinced that Zombies is a good addition to these games, and people like it too much.

Redditors and Steam users have rightfully leapt on the problem. We haven’t been able to verify the mix-up ourselves, but we’re working on it.

It’s okay to laugh. While the second disc is necessary to complete installation, affected players can enter the serial number on the box into Steam’s product activation window to activate the game. But they’ll have to wait umpteen hours for the download to finish and do their best to avoid eye contact with their Friends list in the meantime.

Got the vita version (Lol) annnnnd....

Hey, it's not bad! Played about 45 mins - played a few of the modes. Had a game of 8 player free for all. Everything is cut down in terms of options but the single player stuff is handheld focused : story mode is done in small ops, time trials is there, survival modes with online ladders, etc

Expected much worse than what we got - wont win any awards but significantly better than it could have been.

Multi is great.  Loving the levels and map designs.  Better than Halo 4 MP.
Title: Re: Call of Duty:Black Ops 2
Post by: Stoney Mason on November 14, 2012, 12:09:34 AM
Put in a good number of hours this evening into the multi. My initial verdict is I like it alot.

There are things I miss from Black Ops. Mainly the recoil. The recoil in this game is much more traditional to the COD series. By that I mean COD 4 or MW 2. Blops 1 was like this very original thing because most of the guns actually took a little bit of skill to use in all situations. The guns in black ops 2 are much more of the traditional low recoil cod variety. Not an awful thing by any stretch and something most people actually prefer but I really respected blops 1 for changing that stuff. Also not a fan of the un-nerfing of the snipers from Blops 1. I preferred that.

The actual moment to moment gameplay is much better though. The movement feels tighter and more crisp. The Treyarch games always felt a little bit sloppy control wise compared to the infinity ward games but they really nail it here. Movement and aiming is silky smooth. The graphics and sound are also now better than the infinity ward games at least on the 360 which is the first time Treyarch has surpassed iw in that regard. The maps are really colorful. And so much better design wise than the shit that was passed off in MW 3.

I like how in objective modes they actually reward you more for doing objective shit. First COD to actually get that right. I like some of the anti-camper tools that have been implemented. Camping will always exist in every shooter but I like that Treyarch has actually given you some tools to handle some of the worst of it.

Theater mode is back and is great. Just a real good and solid all around effort. No death streaks. No last stand. No martyrdom. No huge lunge on the knifing. No MOAB's. No nukes. This is a good way for COD to go out on these set of consoles. They finally got most of the stuff right and took out the crazy annoying shit that kept lingering.

Treyarch is just so much better than IW that the quality comparison between the two is not even in the same league. Now if you are burned out on COD this isn't the game to revolutionize it and bring you back. This is just a refined version of all the lessons that have been learned by the devs. So for me that's great. For others on the surface it will simply look like just another cod game but the secret to a good shooter is sweating the small details.

I didn't even get around to the campaign. I'll give that a try tomorrow and give some thoughts there.

I really think its just a good time for mp fans. I think they both are really fun. And this comes from someone who was really disenchanted with Halo in general but 4 has brought me back.

There is no doubt IW made a truly amazing and revolutionary game with Cod 4. Looking back on it though MW 2 on the mp side at least was a bit of a jumbled mess. And that's strictly speaking from the design side. We never got to see how IW would have tuned the game post launch because all that crazy shit went down and the company imploded. So I mean yes but I'm curious to see if Respawn's next game is balanced rather than the throw everything but the kitchen sink style they had for mw2.

My thoughts on the game's ending

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Why the hell did they go through all the trouble of making this protagonist only to have him kill himself? They should have just left it with him leaving the prison. Then that way they could at least come back to that character. I thought the lack of any of the previous games influences with the MKultra project sucked. I saw a lot of potential for them to use David as the enemy of the state, yet they didn't take it down that road.

Am I the only one that thinks Treyarch should make a Terminator game? They've already worked with robots and Sam Worthington.

I swear back when the game was announced and they were talking about multiplayer. That they said something about the points carrying through deaths, so even those that sucked would be able to make a difference and use the high point value stuff. That would have been awesome and I don't think it would fuck much up too.

Man I really dig the mp here. I'm kinda addicted to it which hasn't happened in a COD game in a very long time for me. It's my favorite since COD 4.

I tried the campaign. Seems fun enough although its completely bat shit insane. I dig the future stuff. In fact I'd like to see Treyarch take a swing at a non-cod futuristic title so they could go completely balls out on future stuff.

Agree on the Strike Force missions though. That should have been a separate co-op mode or something if they wanted to try something like that. Not part of the campaign. It's annoying and not explained especially well in the tutorial.

From what I read, aside from the typical framerate issues, the game has freezing problems and the picture quality looks like someone smeared Vaseline all over everything.  I've never bothered with CoD on PS3 for these reasons...360 always gets the better version.

Aftermath

Yemen

I wish you can choose which maps not to play.

The Peacemaker is ok once you level it up. Long barrel and grip is where its at.

Since I just prestiged, I permanently unlocked the AN-94 and use that or the peacemaker. The AN-94 is the last AR that you unlock and for good reason. It's a badass.

Best CoD since CoD4 for sure. I don't know if I'm going to buy the map pack, though. I think they're kind of expensive.

Season Pass.

I was one step away from doing Die Rise easter egg, but we fucked up at the end and people were starting to get tired and wanted to go to bed. I was pissed.

4 $15 map packs = $60

You save $20 with the Season Pass.

This. I never understand the recent anger at season passes and such. The DLC is coming no matter what.

The Revolution map pack is great. Way better maps than half the stock ones.

Maps I hate:
Aftermath
Turbine

Those maps you mentioned are definitely some of the least liked although personally I only really hate Yemen among that group. I hope they bring back a couple of Black Ops 1 maps like Firing Range, Grid, etc.

The Peacekeeper is good. Feels like an ACR. And yeah the AN94 is my favorite assault rifle.

im not mad at the season pass, im saying that the season pass is still expensive as fuck. you get a lot of content, sure, but $100+ is a hell of a lot of money for one game.

For some people CoD is the only game they buy every year. See Madden for another example.

If you didn't buy Black Ops 2 early, you get Nuke Town 2025 for free today.

They also put in micro-transaction purchase items like class slots, emblems, gun camo, etc.

Probably my last bump for this thread before it goes into the graveyard of threads.

I can now say this is my favorite cod of all time on the mp side with the time I've put in. (Almost 200 hours) Even topping or at least matching COD 4. It's not revolutionary like COD 4 but its the one I would pick to play along with COD 4 if somebody forced me to choose. Just a really well balanced edition for a COD game with the fewest amount of annoying shit that I hate relative to the other titles. And it will have to last for next year because I'm done with the non-Treyarch COD's. They are the only ones that really understand that franchise.

I even watched that COD championship thing today. Normally I find MLG level play very boring but that was actually some entertaining stuff especially since they allow some killstreaks in which they didn't in prior COD's.

New map pack coming up and while I don't actually play zombies I thought the video was well put together. The next map pack will also have a remake of firing range which was one of my favorite COD maps of all time.

I'll get this pack. The last map pack was really good. I hope they have a mode where you only play on DLC maps after this.

They took out the probation thing for awhile but then put it back in later. I actually don't have a problem with it but yeah its silly because it can't determine often between matches that just get disconnected from randomly and matches where you actually quit.

Die Rise was a really shitty zombie map. TranZit is much better. Mob of the Dead looks more classic, no stupid azzzzzzzzzzzz vertical deaths.

Not really. Just memorize the layout, where the perks are, etc.

Set up spots you feel comfortable at doing zombie trains (lead zombies in a circle while periodically - or in earlier levels, blasting them with headshots)

I only find Zombies fun when going for the easter eggs, since there is a goal involved. I'm not interested in getting high scores.

Zombies are dumb. Go online and fight something that has a brain behind it.

I am and mute all is a clear option. You can play them without having to listen to them.

Just prestiged for the second time. Didn't hear a word from any bitch.

I'm liking the new maps. Doing pretty well on them too. My first 3 matches went 16/9, 16/9, 17/5.

The thing that sucks is I just prestiged and don't have half my shit anymore.

Yeah I like most of the maps and don't really hate any of them.

I almost never play zombies but I tried the mob of the dead thing and thought it was decent.

My son loves the zombies so he wanted this update for his birthday. But I don't care for it.

On my own choice I would never play zombies. The group I play with that enjoys it so I have to endure it about once a month.
