Will probably end up playing this before the first one since this has pirates and blue water.
-
I heard its getting pretty bad press so far, even for eurojank
-
Good, it's time we get away from this idea that these Eurofilth RPGs are supposed to be good; they're not. They're supposed to be trashy as hell, with garbage plots, distinguished mentally-challenged voice actors, and 3rd World quality assurance.
-
Two World II was all the eurojank I needed- still, Divinity II + Expansion is worth playing imo
-

It hasn't been that bad, just the IGN review it the most noticed. Because of the map (smaller islands instead of one big world) there's apparently less exploration to do. It's still the sort of flawed gem you expect from Yurop.

I would still pay around $30 for most of them, though. Due to exchange rates, that probably covers most of the dev costs I'm guessing.
-
I only paid $35 for Risen 2 :rock

That sounds about like the sweet spot.

In Europe,
game plays you.
-
Enjoying the first few hours so far. Not that different from Risen really.
-
It's been okay so far, combat starts out really simplistically but it does seem like it gets a bit more complex as you gain more sword skills. Not a great game, but people who enjoy Euro-jank [like me] will enjoy it.
-
I finished Gothic SNORE: Arcania so im sure I could deal with this.
-
The more I play this the more I hate the combat.
-
Well, I wouldn't say that Risen 2 is a great game, but it does a fine job of scratching the ol' Euro-Jank itch. The two issues I have with the game are the combat [which is just way too stiff and simplistic to be fun] and the optimization, which is pretty poor. There's flickering textures everywhere and glitching shadows and pop-in and this weird thing where the foliage is constantly getting bigger and smaller as you move around. I imagine the latter is the reason for the console version being delayed. Hopefully a PC patch comes out soon.
Still, I'm having fun.
-
Beat Risen 2 today, took 27 hours doing most of the sidequests and finding most of the hidden treasure and the like. It was a decent game, solid Euro-Jank [meaning it's got it moments if you can overlook some of the stuff that's bad]. Still needs a few patches though, but there's nothing fundamentally broken about the game, though, other than the combat falling apart when you have to deal with anything other than 1-on-1.

I am guessing you got a nvidia graphics card?
-
GTX 460.
-
Yeah it happens sometimes with games that nvidia cards dont support. I had to wait days for the "indoors being completely black" bug in the original Risen. In the end it was Piranha Bytes that gave the bug fix i believe. Atleast you didnt get that this game.

Yay, tree flicker fix!
-
So how related is it to the first? I read it has the same hero, and it even acknowledges the whole island of Tatanga from the first.
-
Yes the guns sabotage is much simpler. I can play this now.

It's related, but don't expect them to explain how with much depth.
-

It takes places after the original Risen and has the same main character, as well as a few side characters.
-
So I finally finished this. Sure you can nitpick it to death if you want...
The overall area is smaller than the first game
Some of the mechanics are streamlined
You can't go everywhere at the start
The graphics can be shitty
The combat sucked at launch, and even with dodge it's not much better
Every one of these is true. But I would say without question it's better than the original. And not just because I enjoy the pirate setting more. There's more interesting areas, more interesting characters, no shitty bosses, and most importantly they tell you when you're going to be locked out of one path. There's also stacks of loot, probably too much and a lot of it you'll never use because some of the secondary quest items are awesome. I really like the addition of the legendary items that you gradually found out about by reading books around the islands.
Some of the skill choices were better this time as well. I didn't go the Voodoo path so I have no idea how that worked but muskets/pistols were good fun once you upgraded them. Despite only using it 2-3 times the pistol skill that allows you to shoot someone mid conversation was well worth the 1000 gold. There were quite a number of situations you could talk yourself out of as well.
Probably my favourite Eurojank game in a long time.
-
Are there any videos or impressions of how "awful" 360 version is?
I decided to play Two Worlds 2... I think it's probably even more jank than the first. Too funny.
-
Here's a video of the PS3 version. I don't think it will be much different.
