Title: You'll never see it coming
Post by: Eel O'Brian on May 03, 2012, 06:44:31 PM
A friend of mine came home from work this morning to find his wife slumped dead on the couch. Their four year old daughter was sleeping on the couch with her. The only thing they know is that the little girl said her Mom bumped her head sometime last night, and laid down on the couch with her, and she was gone. They won't know the actual cause of death until the autopsy. She was only 30.

I've been thinking about it all day long. I met her a few times, went to their wedding, she was a nice lady. Her daughter will grow up to have only the haziest of memories of her (if that).  Death doesn't care about those things, it takes you whether you are ready or not, no matter how much you have left to do, or see, or know, or who you leave behind. You could close your eyes at any moment and that moment is the end of you.

My friend's had a pretty tough few years, but things were starting to look up for him the past year or so. My other friend, his brother, said he had to pick him up off the floor when he got there, he was just cold all over and shaking.  Death doesn't care about that, either.

I normally stay away from any personal shit on the internet, but right now I'm outraged and my chest feels like a furnace and there's nothing for me to punch. Hang on to what you hold dear, it could quite literally be taken from you within seconds. It's a shitty, unfair world.

I'd save the anger until you find out what happened... the fact that she could have possibly had a concussion (or a head injury that somehow resulted in death) of some sort and did nothing about it would merit more anger.

Nobody ever thinks "maybe I should go to the hospital"

Poor family. Shitty things happen to nice people.

I guess at least the mother spent her last moments with her little one, still that's bitter fucking medicine to swallow.

Really sorry to hear about what happened, man. Sounds like a terrible situation all the way around.

It took Lager nearly a week to finally go to the doctor over sharp chest pains. Sure, it turned out to be nothing, but seriously GO TO DOCTOR.

sad..

reminds me of how a co-worked died right in his work chair during office hours.

It does make you appreciate what you have and want to hold dear to who you love. But no matter how hard you try sometimes... the people you care about will leave you, not in death but by choice.

I know how you feel.

One of my wife's life long friends was found dead while we were in Orlando during spring break(2 weeks ago). First night there we got the call. My wife had to miss the everything cause we were a thousand miles away from home.
Sad part(to me) is that it was 2 days before anyone found her in her bedroom at her parents house where she lived.

You won't see it coming.

My condolences to your friend.

yeah, it's all pretty absurd. i'm pretty rational about it, but sometimes the absolute uncertainty of it all -- that there is clearly no pattern beyond natural coincidence in the ending of life -- sucks the hope and joy out of some moments.

anyway i'm sorry to hear. i hope your friend can recover. you're a good person to care. :(
